Chapter Text
It had been a fairly normal day at school. Math was hard, band class was awesome, and when Reggie got to his locker he opened it to a cute light purple envelope tucked inside. He didn’t open it until he got back to the garage, plopping on the couch. As he read over the letter, written on purple paper that smelled like flowers, Reggie got the tell-tale puppy dog look on his face.
It was a look that Luke knew all too well. “OOh...does our little Reginald have a crush? Is that a loooove letter?” The guitarist asked, sitting next to Reggie, looking over his shoulder. “It IS! Who...who is Kayla?” Reggie blushed red, looking down. “Luke….shut up…” he muttered.
The answer came from Julie, who looked up from her piano. “Kayla? Reggie…..do you mean Dirty Candi Kayla? Purple wig, best friend to Carrie Wilson Kayla?!” She walked over, seeing the purple paper and frowned knowingly. “This has to be a prank, what does it say?”
Reggie rubbed his arm. “I...I don’t think it’s a prank. We’ve kind of been talking a little bit and she wants to go on a date.” he said quietly. “She even wrote down her phone number! C’mon guys, you know I’ve liked her since the pep rally show.” He set the paper down, putting her number in his phone, quickly sending her a cute hello text with plenty of emojis.
“Well...then where are you taking her?” Alex asked simply, still tuning his drum set. “Have you thought about it yet? No copying anything from me and Willie.” The blonde smiled, nodding for his support. Reggie shrugged. “I dunno...maybe pizza and a movie?” he asked.
Julie laughed at that. “Reggie, this is Kayla we’re talking about. I doubt she’s had pizza since the 2nd grade graduation party. She’s going to want to go somewhere fancy, or shopping at the Galleria. She’s not going to be an entry level girlfriend.”
Luke smirked, getting up. “You should take her to the pier. That can be romantic, right? Go up on the ferris wheel, maybe slip the guy a $5 so it stops at the top for a little kiss?” Reggie groaned, dramatically leaning back. “You guys are making it so complicated! It’s just a date, we’re not getting married. If it doesn’t work out, it doesn’t work out.”
Alex raised his eyebrow at that. “You said the same thing about Stephanie Morales and when she rejected you, you cried for two days.” he said dryly. “It’s okay to think about this a little bit, have a plan. You already know her favorite color...get her some purple flowers.”
The bassist looked down at the memory, but was quickly recovered. “That's a good idea! Girls love flowers!” He quickly grabbed Luke’s notebook, flipping to a fresh page to start writing, but was quickly stopped as the guitarist grabbed it back. “Uh..no. MY book.” he defended. He tossed Reggie a plain notebook instead, grinning as the other caught and instantly started writing.
Instead of practice that night, the four brainstormed fun date ideas that could work with the second in command of Dirty Candi. Reggie may or may not have sent a few more cute texts inbetween, and the date was soon set in two days, that Saturday night.
