Chapter Text
Buck sat looking at his email in shock, he had only taken the DNA test advertised on TV in a peak of interest, he never thought he would ever get a result back that popped up in his email. According to the test result he had a full brother. With everything that had been going on with the 118 and Bobby lying to him Buck whole life was in turmoil
Normally the first person he would tell would be Eddie, however his former best friend made is perfectly clear that their friendship was over after ghosting him for the past two weeks. The last message from Eddie made it clear hat it would not be a good idea for Buck to have any contact with Chris either. Again, someone Evan Buckley cared for has turned against him. The only person he could rely on now was Maddie.
After reading the email the first thing he did was reach for his phone to call his sister, his finger hovered over the call button. After everything that bastard Doug had done to his sister, he was so happy that she had found someone who truly loved her as Chim did. He did not want to put Maddie in a difficult position and cause grief for her or Chim. The more he thought about it the more he thought about how Maddie would kill him if he kept quiet.
Whilst he waited for Maddie to arrive, he went to put on some fresh coffee. As he stood waiting, he looked out of the window of his apartment in deep thought.
He was disturbed by a knocking on the door. Turning around he went to answer the door, looking though the spy hole he saw Maddie with Chim standing next to her. Opening the door nervously he welcomed his sister with a hug looking at Chim uncertainly. “Evan, I have a bone to pick with you” Maddie announced. “Why do I have to hear it from Chim what’s going on with the 118?”
Before Buck could reply Chim spoke up “Buck, one day I hope you will become my brother-in-law, I don’t give a damn what is going on with the others, you know how bad things were for me when I first started at the 118, you ignored all of that and got to know me, you stood by me now it’s my turn to return the favour.” Buck stepped back and let them into his apartment.
Once they were all sat down Buck finally answered Maddie question “Maddie, I didn’t want to put you in a difficult position when I know how much you care about Chim, I didn’t want you to feel you had to choose.”
“Buck... I know Maddie loves me, but you are her brother. I know full well that if I had been a dick and sided with the others Maddie would have ripped my head off.” Chim stated emphatically. Maddie chuckled “Damn straight, now what was with that secretive phone call?”
Well, I was watching “who do you think you are” on TV, I got interested and brought a DNA test as I wanted to find out what sort of mix, I am, tall, blond and blue eyes made me think I might be a bit Viking.” Maddie and Chim both burst out laughing.
“I could never ask our parents about it; I got the results back and I found out something I really wasn’t expecting. Buck loaded up his email and passed his phone to Maddie. As she read the content of the mail her chin dropped.
She looked up in shock at Buck “A Brother... I had no idea.” “What?” Chim cried out. Buck turned to his friend, “Apparently when you do the DNA sample you can agree for it to be added to a database and they see if you have any other relatives in the database. The results say I have a full brother who shares both of my parents.”
Maddie was still in thought, who was this brother she knew nothing about. Together they wrote an email to the mystery brother. Once Buck had sent the email the three friends sat and chatted.
The following day Lieutenant Colonel Matthew Jackson, USMC, JAG officer sat in shock reading the email, after reading the email three times Matt called his father.
After explaining to his father Matt could hear how upset his dad was. “That bitch...” his dad said totally out of character. “I can’t believe she did it twice. I told you about your birth mother when you were a child, we met again when you were about six. When we were together, I cared deeply for her. I had no idea we had another son. After you were born, she convinced me that her parents were really strict and wouldn’t let her raise a child we were only 18 when you were born and she still lived with her parents, they were moving out of town and she had to go with them, after you were born, she signed over full custody to me. Then we bumped into each other again, as you say we did the deed and it seems you now have a brother. I am not sure if this Maddie is mine as well. What are you going to do?”
Matt was never in any doubt how much his dad loved him and that if his dad had ever known he would have moved mountains to bring up Buck and maybe even Maddie if she was their sister. “I will pull in some favours and get a back ground check done, then I plan to see if they want to meet
Two weeks later Buck found himself nervously waiting to meet his brother Matt Jackson. Even thought they had shared pictures it was still a surprise to see up front how similar the brothers looked.
“When I did the DNA test finding a brother wasn’t even something I thought would happen.” Buck explained. “I know it really knocked me back a bit” Matt replied.
“It makes sense now why my parents treated me as they did” Buck explained as he told Matt his childhood. As they afternoon progressed the two brothers began to feel more comfortable with each as they strangely felt the bond growing stronger and stronger. Growing up Matt always wanted a little brother to teach, instead he was stuck with two younger sisters.
“As you know I am in the Marine Corp... before setting up this meeting I did some research, I thought some of the shit I did was bad, but damn Buck you are a chip off the old block, two Purple Hearts and the Navy Commendation Medal” Matt said smiling.
Buck blushed at the praise, “No one knows about my time in the SEALS, I mentioned to Bobby once... he was my Captain at the firehouse that I washed out.
After an emotional but enjoyable afternoon the brothers agreed to meet the following weekend and Buck would bring Maddie. Matt had laughed when Buck told him that Maddie was waiting for Buck to go to her house as soon as he had met Matt.
Buck and Maddie stayed in regular contact with their new found brother chatting with each other daily. One of them expected to get on so well and feel so at each with each other as if they had grown up together. Matt had been a lifeline for Buck who was at a loss with the breakdown in his friendship with Eddie.
Even though everyone at the 118 had turned their back on Buck apart from Chim he still had other friends within the LAFD, one of which was one of the trainers at the Academy who did Bucks basic training when he joined the LAFD and also signed off on his recertification’s. After explaining the lawsuit to Matt he had suggested that as Buck reach out to his Union Rep as Buck was also in the Union that he gets their support as well.
Anthony Torres hugged Buck when he arrived at the bar, “Hey brother... it’s good to see you” Buck returned the hug. “Buck what’s going on I don’t like that look on your face.” Buck explains what had happened. “You are shitting me.” Anthony replied shocked. “You were fully certified as fit for duty and the medical board signed off.” Buck frowned, “I know, but apparently Bobby didn’t agree, he lied, he told me that it was the Chief who had concerns.” Anthony knew that Buck was one of the best firefighters he had seen and did his best to try and get Buck’s mind off of the grief from the 118. Buck slowly started to smile as the evening progressed.
As Buck was standing at the bar getting some fresh drinks Anthony sat back still shocked at what Captain Nash had done.
Buck returned with two bottles of beer in hand, “Thanks Buck, tonight has been good, have had a nightmare apartment hunting.” Anthony explained.
“Well, I may have a possibility for you...” Buck replied. “When I was travelling and with my deployment in the Navy, I saved everything I earnt as I didn’t need much, so I brought my apartment outright. I am looking to move out as there are too many bad memories at that apartment.”
Anthony smiled, “Brother, that would be great, but where are you going?” “Well to be honest I have been thinking of moving out before the whole lawsuit thing. There are three weeks left of Escrow, I have brought a house in Santa Monica. I wanted to get somewhere with no stairs for when Chris came to stay, that’s Eddie’s son, there is also a spare room in case Eddie’s grandmother needs care as she gets older.” Buck explained. “Damn Buck, you are a good man, far better than Diaz deserves.” Anthony replied. “So how much rent you going to charge me?”
