If I kiss a boy and I like it, does that make me gay? (spoilers: it does.)

Summary:

post good ending spoilers!

Sunny questions his sexuality, and Basil decides to help him out. If you read the tags, im sure you know where this is going. A majority of the "dialouge" (and fic at large) takes place over text messaging, so when a character's name is stated in bold with a colon (BASIL: and SUNNY: ), its meant to indicate a text message.

Not adding anything else to this one, i really do need to actually work on my others hehe.

Note: Yes i wrote this because of the "gay gay homosexual gay" meme that seems to be floating around this community for some reason. No, I am not mentally ok, and yes, you may sue me for writing this. I dont know how kisses work ok pls be easy on me-

Work Text:

Basil lay face-up on the floor of his room, a warm body besides him. Not a dead body by any measure, but the other boy’s silence and stillness could’ve fooled anyone. Indeed, Sunny was rather unmoving, only the small chatter of his fingers against his mobile phone providing any clue that he was conscious. Basil didn’t mind- Hell, he enjoyed the silent and calm nature that Sunny carried himself with. Turning his head to check his own phone, however, Basil was reminded that Sunny was actually in a rather panicked mood.

SUNNY: Im just really confused about all of this and I really appreciate you being here for me but its still really just bearing down on me and I don’t want to end up doing you-know-what again and its just a lot,

Basil took a moment to process the message. It was one in a long string that had gone unreplied, simply due to the strange way in which Sunny sent his messages. The silent boy opted to send multiple shorter messages rather than one big one, especially when he was in a panic. Clearly, the lack of proper punctuation was an indication of panic. Sunny and Basil had gotten rather good at reading eachother’s moods from text alone, as both felt more comfortable discussing their worries over the phone.

BASIL: I know, I know, its hard! It took me a while to come to terms with myself too, and it was a rather bumpy road, hehe. The best you can do for yourself is to experiment first-hand! If you just stay in your head, nobody can help answer your questions.

Sunny took a short pause to read Basil’s response, but his hands quickly set themselves to work on another string of words, no doubt negative towards himself.

SUNNY: Yeah, but, how? Who am I supposed to “test” with? How do I ask someone about that!? Even if I WAS more social, im pretty sure you cant just ask some random boy to help you test your gayness!”

Basil slightly chuckled at the term “gayness”, the term sounding vaguely like a middle-school insult. Basil turned his head to the side to look at Sunny, and saw a blush over his face; The light shade of red looked good for his face, Basil thought. And then, the seeds of an idea sprouted from the soils of Basil’s mind, and a smile spread across his face.

BASIL: Well, were both right here, right?

Despite the short length of the message, it seemingly took Sunny an overwhelming amount of time to stop staring at it blankly. Basil felt some surge of pride- He was never a social butterfly, so being able to make anyone stop in their tracks with his words was a new experience. Frankly, he would by lying if he said he didn’t love it. Wanting to further cement his point, Basil sent another message, not bothering to wait for Sunny’s reply.

BASIL: I mean, if you don’t want to, that’s alright! But like, does this not solve the issue at hand?”

Sunny replied with blazing speed, typing like his life depended on it. From the way his heart was beating out of his chest, it very well might.

SUNNY: But- But I know you! Like, well! What if I like it!? What if I don’t?!

Basil grinned as he worked on a reply, fingers on auto-pilot as they typed. He knew that Sunny just needed to experiment and figure things out, mostly because he himself had to do the same thing- only difference was, it took Basil 3 years to figure it all out. Basil was determined to make sure Sunny did not have to suffer the same fate.

BASIL: Well, if you like it, you like it! If you don’t, then its no big deal. I offered, so I cant really hold it against you either way. Who knows, maybe you loooooooooove me haha

If Sunny was blushing before, his face was practically a tomato by now. Basil was developing a blush of his own- Truth be told, he had a crush on Sunny for a while now, and he had somehow managed to try and make a move on it. He would pat himself on the back, but now was not the time.

SUNNY: ….

SUNNY: Alright.

Basil had honestly not expected such an up-front answer from Sunny. Hell, the two had been through so much together, and both of them knew that Sunny had bore the majority of the load. To accept that offer so forwardly was unlike Sunny, so Basil made sure to ask a second time.

BASIL: Really? I want you to be sure about this, I don’t want to pressure you or anything!

SUNNY: No, im sure about this. You offered, and it wont hurt to try.

Basil heard the soft *thud* of Sunny’s phone against the carpet the two were laying on. With a soft, slow turn, Basil lowered his head to face Sunny, who had already done the same. There, in that moment, both boys blushing and staring head-first into the other’s eyes (or eye in the case of Sunny), it finally dawned on Basil that he had just done this. He had somehow gotten himself into this position, and there was really only one way out of it now.

Leaning forward slightly, Basil planted a soft peck on Sunny’s cheek, holding for a moment before retracting.

Sunny, on the other hand, found something peculiar. A warm feeling, a warmth like some sort of weight off his shoulders. It was a soft, welcoming feeling, like DREAMSPACE used to be, but without all the artificial flavoring. This was real, something the world had given him, a true source of this overwhelming sense of joy. So, as one does when overwhelmed with emotions and a desire to replicate them, Sunny quickly leaned in to return the favor. However, due to a complete and utter lack of experience, he landed in a spot he had not meant to: Basil's lips.

Basil had, rationally, not expected this. Neither had Sunny. The fleeting moment in which the two had linked their lips together was just that; Fleeting. Sunny quickly retracted himself, despite something in his heart yearning to “misplace” his lips again.

Sensing the almost palpable air of confusion and hesitance, Basil gave Sunny no chance to apologize; If there had been any moment of free time, it was almost guaranteed that Sunny would have felt the need to tell Basil exactly how sorry he was for what just happened, but Basil had no need to hear any of that. With the same oddly placed confidence and slowness, Basil leaned into Sunny, this time planting himself firmly on the other boy’s lips.

Truth be told, Basil was no better at this than Sunny was, so they just stayed there for a while. Sunny was scared at first, wondering exactly what he had gotten into, but soon the heart-melting joy from earlier returned and soothed his worries. At some point, the two boys had reached around and locked themselves into a tight hug, but the seemingly endless embrace stopped them from knowing exactly when they did so.

Finally, it broke, Basil slowly pulling away and opening his eyes, meeting a disappointed look from Sunny. Basil would be lying to say he did not share the same feeling, but he knew the kiss had to end at some point. Still in a warm embrace, Basil loosened one of his arms to send a message to Sunny. It would probably be a while until he saw it considering how neither of the boys wanted to budge from this position too far, but it was still an important message nonetheless.

BASIL: haha, I guess we figured it out. Gay gay homosexual gay. That’s what you are, ya big ol gay =)

Basil put his phone back down, reached back around, and prepared to just be here for as long as life permitted him to. Hopefully, that would be a long time.
