A couple of teenage schoolboys sat on the beach. They were two friends just talking nonsense, like teenagers do.
“What? Haven’t you ever kissed someone before?” the blonde said to the other boy.
The dark-haired boy looked away bashfully, “No one would want to kiss me Yumi-chan”. Despite the soft smile on his face, his voice sounded forlorn as he said it.
Yumikage looked at his friend angrily. Tsurugi looked back up and saw his friend scowling at him. His eyes widened and he gasped, “Yumi-chaaan, why are you mad?!” He was trying to change the subject by teasing his friend.
“Don’t fucking say that.”
Tsurugi stared with the stupid grin still on his face.
“I mean it, don’t talk about yourself that way. Of course people will want to kiss you, you’re hot.”
The dark-haired boy laughed at how his friend said that with a straight face. He leaned back to lay on the sand and put one of his arms over his eyes.
“Only you would say that Yumi-chan.” Tsurugi’s voice still sounded sad. He wasn’t convinced anyone would ever find him desirable. What was there to like about someone like him?
The blonde leaned over his friend and moved his arm away from his eyes. They were wet, but Tsurugi just gave a pitiful smile.
“You’re just as good as anyone else Tsurugi. You are just as deserving as any of us.” Yumikage had a stern but pained look on his face. Like it broke his heart to see his friend think so little of himself.
Tsurugi looked up at his friend blankly. He didn’t know what he could have done in his short, messed up life to be given a friend like this. No one ever told him he was worthwhile. But someone like him didn’t need to hear things like that, just being able to have someone with him was enough.
“Why are you being so nice to me?”
Yumikage gave an exasperated sigh, “Comon man, its just basic human decency to be nice to someone.”
The blonde was still leaning over Tsurugi and put his hand up to his cheek. Tsurugi flinched at the touch. Yumikage felt horrible that such a gentle touch could startle the broken young man.
“Its okay Tsurugi.” He drew his hand back from his friend’s cheek. “Sit up with me.”
Tsurugi did as he was told and sat up next to his friend.
“Look at me.”
The dark-haired boy looked to his friend, who was already staring at him with his usual severe expression on his face. The blonde brought his hand up to gently grab hold of his friend’s chin and said, “I’m going to kiss you.”
Tsurugi looked baffled by what Yumikage said. He didn’t know what to say or do, he just stared as his friend leaned in and softly pressed his lips to his. Yumikage had his eyes closed but Tsurugi just looked straight ahead, not knowing what to do with himself in this situation. The blonde drew his head back and looked at his friend, who still wore the same dumbfounded expression. Yumikage cracked a grin at him.
Tsurugi looked down and said quietly, “Why did you do that Yumi-chan?”
“Because I wanted to. I told you, you’re hot. And you’re my friend, and I wanted you to know what a kiss was like.”
The dark-haired boy blushed and gave a small laugh. “Well then thank you I guess.”
