Chapter Text
Mirio didn’t hesitate a single second. The moment he saw the gun aimed at little eri’s head. He lunged forward, as fast as he could.
He distantly heard the sound of cracking concrete. But all he could see was the objective ahead.
The deafening sound of gunfire rung in his ears, and he braced himself for the hit-...
But it never came As he looked back he blanched
Midoriya had taken the bullet for him.
———
When midoriya burst through the wall smashing through the concrete. What he saw made his blood run cold. His mind running a mile a minute. Time seaming to slow to a stand still Mirio was going to get hit by the bullet. Taking it for Eri. With the way the gun was pointed at his head... Mirio was ...He was going to die in front of him-
Before he could think. His feet moved on their own. He couldn’t just stand there and watch him die His only warning before the pain was the ear piercing shriek of gunfire.. Even through the ache in his shoulder... ‘Why wasn’t it bleeding ?’
He smiled bright facing Overhaul head on. Pain wasn’t something he wasn’t used to. He prepared himself to run forward and retaliate, steadying his stance preparing to use full cowling... But the feeling in his bones made him freeze.
It felt cold.
It felt cold in a way that he hadn’t felt for months. He had forgotten how it felt. After all every waking moment one for all was with him. It was always there. From the moment he awoke to the moment he fell asleep. It was like a fire. Always there, warm under his skin at all times even when not using the quirk itself, almost feeling alive at times. Comforting him in the moments he needed it with its warmth.
So feeling it flicker. If only for a moment. It made him freeze. Fear overtaking his mind, the ancient fight or flight instinct kicking in ‘I got hit with quirk erasing bullet’ was the distant thought he had But he couldn’t stop now... he couldn’t be useless and freeze up in the middle of a fight he knew that it could make the difference between life and death. Aizawa sensei thought them as much.
So he called upon the flickering flame of One for all. Pulling at it with all his might. Pleading for the flame to ignite. Midoriya knew that freezing up even for a second in a fight could mean life or death. So when overhaul froze seeing him using his quirk. He didn’t hesitate an instant. He could feel it flicker and die beneath his skin but he pulled and pulled. Giving every bit he had launching himself straight at overhaul.
The hit landed true, catching the startled overhaul off guard. And it sent him flying straight onto the concrete wall behind him. The shockwave enough to make anyone not close enough to the ground lose their balance... It- it was all one for all had left. He... He had used everything he had left...
The fire beneath his skin feeling like a lost memory only leaving him cold. The fragile little candle extinguished from being pushed and pulled beyond what it could take He tried and tried with desperation to ignite the flame that wasn’t there within him. Searching from every corner of his mind. But like in his younger days the quirk he so desperately wanted to ignite within him never came One for all had died.
The realization made him nauseous.
He collapsed on his knees to the ground only his hands stopping him from falling head first on the concrete bellow A legacy. A legacy that was entrusted to him. He had failed. He... he had failed....
His breaths where getting quicker he was getting weak. the world getting foggy, his breathing was getting ragged and difficult. Panic setting in like a fire burning in his lungs, a pittyfull reminder of the fire burning in his veins a few moments ago. No matter how much he breathed it wasn’t enough He couldn’t breathe.. he couldn’t HE COULDN’T BREATHE
He could only distantly hear mirio behind him the concern in his voice too clear even through the haze. He let himself collapse on the ground like a puppet cut from its strings
———
Deep underground. In the deepest parts of the high security fortress. An ancient evil laughed alone in his cell. Deep and booming
Oh how the plan was going oh so much better than expected. It was going to be child’s play without his brother’s quirk getting in the way !
The guards paled just from hearing the sound
———
When aizawa arrived on scene only a minute later with sir nighteye he almost let his neutral face slip away from him. He saw his problem child limp on the ground. He had to physically restrain himself from rushing in to see what happened to the boy. Fearing the worst.
But It would of been illogical to let emotions dictate his actions on the field. Quickly scanning the area to see the villains all unconscious. Whatever mirio and midoriya did. It was effective. Seeing the situation taken care of by nighteye tying up the villains he rushed over to midoriya already readying himself to apply whatever first aid he would need to "
Lemillion what happened to Deku ?" He asked quickly
Mirio looked somber for a moment before speaking. "He got hit with a bullet.. Delu collapsed not long after being hit, he seemed to have trouble breathing and passed out because of it... i checked there is no bleeding and he still has a pulse..." he said close to his ear so the little Eri wouldn’t hear
"Good." He said sounding way calmer in his ears than in his head, "Now come with me we need to get him and Eri out of here as fast as posssible."
Mirio whispered under his breath. ‘I think it was a quirk erasing bullet sir’. And hearing it almost made him freeze.
"W-will H-he be O-okay ?" Litle eri had said. Her tone the one of scared child as if she was going to be reprimanded for speaking up
"Don’t worry Eri. We will make sure of it" aizawa replied. In a practiced soft tone he used when talking with victims And as the raid slowly came to an end, the villains tied up and the results of the events finally unfolding he stayed close to his students. Making sure that they where alright. He stayed close when they had to file into the police station to make their official report. The raid itself had been a huge success.
But when he saw his problem child awake and the look on his face...
Sometimes aizawa hoped that he didn’t care as much for his students. Because the utterly broken look on his problem child’s face made him dread.
It simply looked wrong on him. It hurt to look at the utterly broken eyes staring at him. The raid went as well as it could of. But for midoriya he knew it was probably the worst outcome possible. They would need to see how Eri’s quirk was used to manufacture the bullets and if the effects where reversible but until then....
He wasn’t sure what was going to happen to the problem child And the broken look on his student’s face didn’t any good taking away his worry
