“Tell me you love me.”
5 little words, usually combined with a smirk.
Tsukishima would hold your books over your head, or tickle you non-stop, or even just hug you too tight for you to wiggle out of and say those 5 little words to you with a grin.
It wasn’t hard for you to say it, even through giggles or a pouted out bottom lip. You wanted to say it to him every day that you could.
So you would say it and watch the light sparkle in his eyes as his smug look turned into a softer gaze, pressing a kiss to your forehead and turning away to do whatever it was before he started to tease you.
Tsukishima Kei was not the most affectionate person, especially out in public. But this little thing was so important to the two of you. Because even if it took him a while to say it back to you, Tsukishima kept asking to hear it from your lips. As if he was mostly just begging you to confirm it again and again, making sure it hadn’t all been a dream. You didn’t mind that he didn’t say it back for a bit because that look in his eyes just made your whole centre warm up with giddiness.
And then one day, after he stole your snack from you with a snicker, holding it far above your head despite your protests, he said it again, “Tell me you love me”. It was the same teasing tone, the same snarky look on his face.
“I love you, Tsukishima Kei,” you smiled up at him, rolling your eyes when he finally handed you your snack back.
“Good,” he watched you for a second, turning away to go back to eating his lunch. “Cause I love you too.” His head whipped away faster than you could comprehend his words, pulling his headphones over his ears so he didn’t have to hear you respond and could just pretend like that didn’t happen.
You just stared at him, all the love in your eyes, all the happiness in the world was seated in your heart at this moment. Tsukishima Kei loved you and it wasn’t just his eyes that said it this time.
“Tell me you love me,” you whispered to him later that day, breathing heavily as you pulled away from a somewhat intense make out session.
“W-What?” He stared up at you, his face already flushed from feeling your lips on his for the past few minutes, but burning warmer each second you looked at him. You were straddling him on his bed, quick and eager kisses stolen every moment he could in fear that his brother would come barging through the door and interrupt the moments you had alone together.
“Tell me you love me,” you repeated, breathing it against his lips and pressing your forehead to his.
Tsukishima swallowed dryly, heart beating faster and faster as he watched your eyes. “I love you,” he told you, his voice a little louder than yours had been, like he was committing it for the world to know.
The grin on your face would make Tsukishima feel just a bit lightheaded and he would pull you in for another deep kiss, biting at your lips playfully until Akiteru interrupted to say dinner was ready.
Tsukishima Kei loved you and you loved him. And there was no better feeling in the world to either of you.
