Work Text:
Vacations were always a struggle. Klavier always loved to travel abroad and go to beautiful destinations, and Apollo was someone who’s ideal vacation was either being bunkered down in his home and not talking to anyone for a week, or venturing into the forest to camp.
So they compromised and took turns whenever they could both get time off. Sometimes they would go to wonderful destinations, and sometimes they would get the motorhome Klavier was forced to buy and go into the mountains. Apollo still fought with him about how that wasn’t real camping, but there was a limit to how much of the outdoors Klavier could handle.
As for their trips abroad, they quickly discovered one of the many reasons his schatzi didn’t travel. Whatever it was about air travel didn’t sit well with Apollo and it made him terribly ill.
It was easier now that they could prepare for it. Apollo now took his airsickness medication, and slept the entire flight. It was almost as if he wasn’t on a plane at all, and just sitting in the back seat of a rental car.
Most of the time he didn’t notice the transition between the plane and the rental car. It was perhaps not ideal, and it was difficult to carry him and their luggage all the way out, but it was better than the alternative.
“And you’re sure we’re still making good time?” his ever skeptical schatzi asked.
“Have I ever been wrong, Liebling?” he batted his eyes, but it wouldn’t stop Apollo from being grumpy at him.
“Like about this or in general?” he asked, ignoring the offended scoff Klavier made and continuing on. “You’re not going to forget all the metal you have on you again, are you?”
He put one hand over his heart, and another over his forehead as he dramatically leaned over onto him as they walked to security. “You say that as if I haven’t done this before.”
“Yeah, and every time you do you forget like eight different things. Why do you wear so much metal to the airport?”
He stood back up and flicked the drawstring of Apollo’s oversized hoodie on his way up. “I could ask why you look like you’re a delinquent going to shoplift at a convenience store.”
His hand was swatted away. “I’m comfy. Did no one tell you this flight you booked is thirteen hours long? You’d think they’d put that on the website when you ordered the tickets.”
“I think you’re just a little grumpy about having to fly,” he teased, kissing his cheek as they approached the security gate.
“I promised you when I agreed to this that I would complain the entire time,” Apollo reminded, as he removed his backpack, hoodie, bracelet, and shoes to go through the scanner. “And I’ve told you how serious I am about promises.”
His attention went from Klavier to the worker to confirm the contents of his bag and how it was mostly just back up clothes and emergency toiletries in case they lost his luggage, plus his anti-nausea pills and phone in his pocket.
Klavier always wondered why he never mentioned his magic bracelet that helped him tell if people were lying. Perhaps this time he’ll actually remember to ask when Apollo’s a person again.
“Yes, I’m well aware of how you feel about it,” though he still has yet to get a solid why, probably because of that magic bracelet of his. He gives him a smug little smile. “I’ll be sitting next to you the entire flight, and I can hold your hand as much as you want me to.”
Now cleared, Apollo could put all his things back on. Starting with that magic bracelet of his, of course. “You’d better stay next to me. I’m trusting you to babysit my lifeless corpse,” he paused, before turning back to the security person. “I’m not planning on dying on your flight, the meds I take just knock me out entirely. Can’t be nauseous if you’re unconscious, right?”
Apollo’s nervous laughs were adorable. It was part of why teasing him was so much fun.
His sheepish grin quickly turned back into his grumpy one as he flipped up his hood to hide how flustered he was. “Stop gawking at me and put your metal in the bin, Gavin.”
Oops, busted.
Klavier couldn’t help but chuckle a little, as he followed his grumpy boyfriend’s orders. “I forgot you’re under contract to complain about everything. I usually don’t have to worry about any such things and I couldn’t help but take in the view.”
“I’m taking your wallet and getting myself a drink. Want anything?” Apollo asked, ignoring his teasing in favour of rooting around the bin of Klavier’s stuff, before looking up at him. “...You forgot to put your wallet in.”
Klavier blinked, and patted his pockets, removing it and handing it to the security person. “Oh, danke schatzi.”
They looked through it briefly, before handing it over to Apollo. “Maybe by the time you’re done I’ll be back with our stuff. I’ll just get what you usually get.”
“Danke, schatzi,” he blew him a kiss, and despite the recutancy, Apollo caught it. “You remember our gate, right?”
“Yeah, I’ll try and find us a seat near the front,” he paused. “Or I can come back here and we can run over together, because I know you’re going to be a while.”
“You have no reason to think that,” Klavier said, walking through the scanner, only for it to beep when he walks through.
Apollo raised an eyebrow at him.
“Don’t give me that look, Apollo. It won’t be like last time.”
“Weird because I think I heard that one before,” the rude little man that he chose to date said. “But I guess I’ll be back.”
Klavier huffed dramatically, and walked back over to the new bin he had to start and put his earrings in. It was not going to be like last time. Apollo didn’t know what he was talking about. Klavier flew way more often than him, so Apollo had no place to be giving him a hard time about this.
But it wasn’t long before once more he was standing topless in security as he went through the scanner once more. Apollo standing with their bag of snacks, his smugness only slightly dampened by the little grimaces he made as he chewed up his pill. Unfortunately for Klavier’s ego, it was like last time and Apollo did know what he was talking about.
“I don’t want to hear a word out of your mean little mouth.” he pouted, pulling his bin to the side so he could get dressed out of the way.
To his credit, Apollo said nothing. He just smugly drank his ginger ale at him.
“I hope you know I’m going to take awful photos of you our entire flight,” which was an empty threat. He would only take cute pictures of him and post them to his private instagram.
“I mean go for it. I’m not going to stop you. I’d be amazed if you took a good picture of me.”
Next time for sure Klavier would wear fewer accessories. He forgot how much of a pain they could be to put on in a hurry. “You say that like I’ve taken a bad photo of you.”
“You just said you were going to. Plus Ema’s sent me a picture you took of me mid-sneeze , so there is documented proof that you have.”
It was hard not to think of that picture. It was his contact picture for a while. It was one he took accidentally, but it still might be the worst picture taken of anyone that has ever walked this earth. It was charming in its own way.
“You think my jokes are serious? You wound me.”
“Yeah yeah, shut up and finish getting dressed. I think we’re boarding soon and I don’t want to be carried to the gate.”
“But I could if you wanted me to.”
“I just said I didn’t , now hurry up so we can get on the damn plane.”
“Ach, you can’t rush perfection, Liebling.”
“I’m not asking for perfection, we’re getting on a thirteen hour flight. I didn’t even do my hair now hurry up.”
Klavier would pick up the pace then. His liebling was so grumpy he was immune to his charm. Oh woe was he.
But he did understand the urgency. Despite his offer, he’d rather not carry Apollo through the airport and onto the plane.
There’d be plenty of time to fix himself up on the plane. He’ll be perfect for Apollo when they land.
