Work Text:
A loud groan greeted Talbert from in amongst the long grass; looking down, he’s greeted by familiar fingers reaching up to rub a familiar head, and Shifty slowly brings himself to his feet.
“Shift, I’m so sorry,” concern covers Talbert’s face as he reaches out to steady Shifty, who is struggling to stand straight after the accidental kick in the head that an oblivious Talbert had landed on him.
“‘S okay,” Shifty’s gentle voice and small, shy smile melt Talbert on the spot, the only person capable of doing so.
“What were you doing down there?” Talbert asks, using the solitude of the lonely patch of trees to pull Shifty into his embrace, their hearts beating rapidly against each other; they were still unused to one another’s love.
“Just thinking,” Shifty replies, his voice tinged with sadness, which caused Talbert to break free from the hug and press his lips gently against Shifty’s, trying to kiss the memories of combat away.
