My Kitty Husband

Summary:

Being pregnant has strange consequences for Jemma!

Notes:

Work Text:

Jemma thought the heat was what woke her up. She was always too hot these days. Most mornings she woke up with Fitz buried under a mountain of covers while she lay in the middle of the bed, still too hot despite only wearing a thin tank top and the snow falling outside.

But once fully awake, she realized that Fitz's side of the bed was empty and there were low voices coming from another room, as if they were arguing but trying not to wake her up.

Well, too late for that.

She pushed the covers back all the way and got out of bed. She opened the door and followed the voices.

"I can't believe you did that to me!"

"I didn't do it, I don't have magical powers."

"You're a talking cat!"

"All cats talk, I just learned to speak Human."

Jemma frowned. That sounded like Fitz and Kira but Fitz's voice was weird.

"Fitz?" Jemma asked.

There was silence for a second then Fitz answered.

"In my office!"

Jemma walked in and looked around in confusion. She must have heard him wrong because he obviously wasn't in here.

"Down there."

Jemma looked down indeed and found a cat looking up at her.

She didn't think she'd seen that one before. She didn't think he was one of Kira's suitors but he was a pretty one though. Orange with big blue eyes and a fluffy tail.

"Jemma, look what Kira did to me!"

Jemma gasped. No, it couldn't be. It had to be a prank and Fitz was hidden somewhere in the room. She looked all around the room, under his desk, inside the cupboard, but Fitz was nowhere to be found.

Cat-Fitz climbed onto the desk a little clumsily and came to sit right in front of her. "Jemma, it's really me!"

"I didn't do it," Kira repeated and Jemma looked up to find her on top of a cabinet.

"What's happening here?!" Jemma cried out.

"You did it," Kira said matter of factly.

"No, no, no, that's not possible. I'm in control of my powers now." Jemma brought her hand to her now rounded belly. Being six months pregnant certainly made a lot of things different in her life. And if her magic had been all over the place at first, the ceremony performed with her coven had really helped her regain complete control. Although…

"You did it in your sleep."

She'd had very intense and vivid dreams lately and she'd woken up a few times to an open window or a lit candle but nothing quite as powerful as turning someone into a cat. She didn't even know this kind of magic existed and she certainly didn't know how to do it.

"No, I don't even know how to, I—"

"Well, how do you explain it?" cat-Fitz asked, sounding, understandably, quite impatient and panicked.

"I don't know!" Jemma cried out. Her head was spinning. Being pregnant was overwhelming enough without having to deal with turning her fiancé back into a man.

"Look, you did it again!"

"What?" Jemma asked, feeling more and more confused.

But then she heard a tiny meow. She looked down to find a tiny orange cat looking up at her on the ground. Which also made her realize that the belly that was gradually making her lose sight of her feet was completely gone. A wave of panic hit her and she picked up the small kitten.

"No, that's just not possible. I can't—"

"That's alright," Kira cut her off. "Kittens are much easier to take care of than human babies anyway."

"What? No, but I don't want a kitten, I want my baby!" The little thing was admittedly adorable but she hadn't spent the last few months reading everything about pregnancy, baby-proofing a house and dealing with a witch baby for nothing.

"I told you Fitz would make a nice cat. And this is a very healthy kitten, you should be happy."

"No, no, no, no, no! I want my Fitz back and my back in my belly. I still have three months to wait, I just can't…"

Jemma's head was spinning more and more and just when she thought she was actually going to pass out, she woke up in her bed once more. It took a moment to be fully awake and she had a moment of panic when she saw cat eyes looking back at her from the other side of the bed. But it was just Kira.

She yawned as she looked at Jemma with a curious expression.

"The multiplying babies dream again?"

"No…it's a new one."

Her belly was there but Fitz wasn't and the clock said 4 AM. She knew she couldn't have turned him into a cat but she still needed to check what he was doing up at this time of night.

The unnatural heat she'd been feeling in her dream was completely real though so she didn't bother with pyjama bottoms and only put on her pair of fluffy socks as she went in search for Fitz. He wasn't in his office so Jemma went directly to the nursery. He'd been spending a lot of time there lately, painting walls, assembling furniture and making sure everything was ready despite the fact they still had three months. She'd told him she could use her magic so that everything was done without much effort but he'd insisted on doing some of it himself. He said she was already doing most of the job and he wanted to participate. Plus, he loved working with his hands.

The door was slightly ajar and Fitz didn't hear her come in so she took this opportunity to watch him work for a bit. He was adding the decorative elements to the prawn he'd built himself and Jemma couldn't help sighing in happiness and relief. Fitz was so focused on his delicate work and using his very human hands to do it that she could have remained here for hours without him noticing.

But, as lovely as this sight was, she still needed a few hours of sleep. And she'd rather have him by her side, human, solid and with his unique scent that made her feel more peaceful that any other trick she'd tried since getting pregnant.

"Hi," she said softly as not to startle him.

"Oh hi," he replied, giving her an amused, and she thought, quite appreciative smile as he looked at her state of almost undress. "I-I wasn't sleepy anymore so I thought I'd try and finish this."

"You weren't sleepy at 4 AM?"

Fitz let out a nervous chuckle.

"Kira and I were taking up all the bed again and you didn't want to make us move?"

Fitz smiled sheepishly. He put his paintbrush in water and stood up to come closer.

"That's alright. You're growing life inside of you, you need more sleep than I do."

"Oh Fitz!"

"And hopefully Kira will use the special bed I made for her once the babies are here."

"Fitz," Jemma repeated as she took one more step towards him and looped her arms around his neck. "You don't need to sacrifice your sleep for us. I already know you're going to be the best father there ever was." She pressed a soft kiss to his lips and smiled. He'd apparently replaced a few hours of sleep with sweets. "And you'd also make a really good cat."

"Oh no, not you too!"

Jemma laughed. It was quite a stressful dream but in retrospect, it was a funny one too.

"I just dreamt you were one."

"Oh," Fitz let out with a small chuckle as he wrapped his arms around her waist. "What kind?" He'd gotten used to her weird dreams lately.

"A pretty orange one with blue eyes. And a fluffy tail," she replied, sliding her hand up into Fitz's growing curls. "Kind of like the father of Kira's babies. A real charmer."

Fitz grinned dopily before shaking his head.

"You know, I can't help but think she got pregnant just to try and out-cute our baby."

Jemma laughed but she thought it was rather lovely that Kira got pregnant while she was too. Although she found it a little unfair that Kira would have her babies before her when she got pregnant after, it was nice going through this together. Her not so little cat had been very sweet lately, very protective and possessive with Jemma, sleeping against her belly and even licking it as she would do with her own kittens. Not mention how soothing the purring was. And Fitz might act grumpily about it sometimes but he was really going to love it all. He'd made her the cutest little cat bed and the house was almost equally full of cat toys as it was of baby stuff. It was all going to be so cute seeing their child grow up with all these little kittens around.

"Hey, hey, what's wrong?" Fitz asked and Jemma realized she'd started tearing up.

"Oh no, I'm alright," she quickly replied, a wide smile pulling at her lips as she went up on her tiptoes to press a kiss to Fitz's forehead. "And I'm just really happy and apparently a lot hormonal too."

Fitz relaxed and held her tight. "Me too. Happy, not hormonal." She burst out laughing. "What can I do to help?"

She held him a little longer, his arms around her and his scent already making her feel better, then pulled back to look up at him from under her lashes.

"Come back to bed. We'll make room for you, I promise."

Fitz shook his head in amusement. "You know I can never resist you anyway. There's no need to make eyes at me."

Jemma grinned and took his hand, leaving him just enough time to turn off the light before leading him to the bedroom. She couldn't wait to meet all these babies and for their family to grow but, for now, her whole world fit on their queen size bed and she liked it that way.
