Work Text:

The Feckin’ Bean was Lilith’s favorite coffee shop. Nobody here gave a damn about anything, and she loved watching the clueless masses come in expecting a chain shop experience just to get sassed by a barista with a manager who refused to fire anyone on the complaint of a customer with hurt feelings because they got told to speak English, not Starbucks.

“Wow. Lilith has someone with her who’s not one of her minions?” Kathy held out a cup to Lilith. “Sorry, I’d have had your drink too if I wasn’t caught off guard by someone I don’t recognize getting out of her shiny car. All her minions get plain coffee, that’s quick enough. What can I get you?”

“Cappuccino, soy milk, extra cinnamon.” Kathy raised an eyebrow, but Eve didn’t react. Lilith approved. Kathy had the drink ready quickly, and barely reacted when Lilith paid, even though that was unusual. After all, getting her drinks paid for was a perk of having minions in the first place, right? But Eve wasn’t a minion, she was an equal.

Lilith headed for her usual table, pausing only momentarily when she saw that there were people at the table next to it. She wasn’t going to let that stop her from sitting where she always sat, but it might be a little awkward. It’s not like the Bean was busy and there weren’t plenty of other tables. Eve’s hesitance, when she realized where Lilith was heading, was even stronger. “Are you sure that’s where you want to sit?” she whispered.

“Yeah, I always sit there, why?”

“It’s… it’s nothing, just…” Eve stopped and calmed herself. “The woman with the curly hair is an ex. Might get a little awkward, that’s all.”

“Oh.” Yes, that was more awkward than just a random. After all, it looked like the ex was on a date with the redhead. Which, now that she’d turned her head slightly and Lilith could see her profile instead of just the hair… “Wow. On a date with my ex. That’s kind of adorable.”

“I hope your ex is tough. Billie will chew her up otherwise.” Eve tilted her head. “Of course, she dated you, and I can’t imagine that’s much easier, so it’ll depend on why you two broke up.”

Lilith smirked. “Believe it or not, she dumped me. She didn’t think I fit in with her friends. Some grand coven or something, didn’t like that she was ‘upholding stereotypes’ by dating a ‘demon’. I hope she’s either got better friends now or Billie’s not a demon to them.”

“So if we sit at the table beside them, is it going to look like we’re trying to mess with our exes?” Eve asked. Lilith shrugged. She really didn’t care. Let them think whatever they wanted. Eve followed as Lilith took her seat.

Almost immediately, Rowena leaned over. “Hello, Lilith, been a while. How’s Hell these days?”

“Warm enough to melt a horseshoe. How’s the grand coven?”

“Oh, they’re history,” Rowena said, waving a dismissive hand. “I’ve joined a new coven, even better, a mega coven. I took on an apprentice who the grand coven hated even more than they hated you, but the mega coven is just fine with Sam.” She looked over at Eve. “Who’s this?”

“This is Eve, my roommate and possibly new girlfriend. Eve, this is Rowena, my ex.”

“Possibly again, if you’d like,” Rowena purred. “And if Eve is willing, of course. We always agreed that monogamy is boring, didn’t we, dear?”

Eve snorted. “Talked to Billie about that yet? We broke up because she was mad I wouldn’t commit to giving up men.”

“I wouldn’t have had a problem with you dating other women,” Billie corrected her. “And I’ve… come around, I suppose. Rowena regularly has nights with men.”

“Hmm. Interesting.” Eve turned her attention back to Lilith. “I have to say, this is not how I’d envisioned our first date going, but…”

“What better time to find out we agree on something important like this?” Lilith asked, earning a grin from all three of the other women. “If you don’t mind expanding the date, I don’t. We can have one on our own later.”
