The classic fake dating trope where Yaku's rich and struggling while Nishinoya happens to have free time.

Chapter 1: one (dilemma)

Chapter Text

Meet Yaku Morisuke. The main libero for Nekoma Highschool, teammate, and overall great friend. That’s what everyone knew about him, well that was until Kuroo let it slip at a party last week that Yaku was the son of a CEO for a sportswear company.

Normally, Morisuke wouldn’t care about his family life or who knew, however he kept it hidden to avoid people judging him for his money. Now here he was, a week later, having people go up to him trying to “befriend” him or even confess to him left and right. All for the sake of his name; it was annoying to say the least.

Thankfully, he could escape the crowds during volleyball practice and he hoped people would forget soon anyway. After all, gossip comes and goes quickly.

July 13th [Tuesday]

“Yaku!” Lev called out as he ran up to his upperclassmen since they had just gotten out of volleyball practice.

“What do you want, Lev?” he sighed as they began walking towards the gym doors.

“Oh nothing really,” Lev took a look at Yaku, he wasn’t necessarily the best at reading people but even he could tell something was bothering his upperclassmen. ”Is everything alright?”

Yaku thought about it, the truth was, everything was fine. In fact, one might think his problem was actually something to be grateful for, “Guess not…”

“Ah ok-

“It’s just! I had to turn down another confession today.”

“Ohh” So that’s what this was about, Lev thought as he walked out with Yaku. “What is that, the third one this week?” Lev questioned.

“Yeah.”

“And why haven’t you accepted one?”

“I already told you Lev,” the libero sighed yet again as he looked ahead of him.” They only started asking me out once they found out my parents were rich. Not that I’d expect you to remember though. Fucking Kuroo letting it slip during a party of all things,” Yaku ranted as he gripped his backpack tighter.

“Hey, you know he didn’t mean too...”

“...I know, and that’s the worst part about this! It's just annoying,” he sighed.

“Well what if you could stop the confessions? Or at least come up with a better excuse?”

Now that suggestion caught Yaku’s attention, “what- what do you mean?”

“Well if you were dating someone, surely they’d back off right?”

“Lev.” Yaku deadpanned, “ I don’t like anyone, that’s the thing you dumbass.”

“I didn’t say you had to like them! Just tell them you’re dating someone when you’re really not. That way, people get the hint that you’re unavailable.” he grinned as he was proud of his idea.

“You know, that isn’t the worst idea I’ve heard,” which was code for ‘good job Lev’ in Yaku’s book.

“Great!” the middle blocker grinned as he was happy he was able to cheer [or at least better] Yaku’s mood up.

July 14th [Wednesday]

Yaku decided to test out Lev’s advice the next day. A girl had come up to him right before volleyball practice and confessed. However, Yaku remembered what Lev advised, “Sorry. You seem sweet but…” he took in a deep breath hoping this would work out, “ I’m taken.”

“Oh! I am SO sorry, uhh please uh-  excuse me! And I hope you guys are happy!” she answered as she quickly turned around and walked away.

That went a lot better than expected, the libero thought. He was glad to finally have an actual reason to reject someone, not that he needed one in the first place but, having a single consistent excuse was very convenient for the Libero.

July 20th [Tuesday]

School went by a lot smoother for the libero now. People began to back off and he was finally feeling as if things were going back to normal.

Now that he was ‘seeing’ someone, the confessions also died down. Though there was the occasional student that hadn’t noticed the libero was ‘taken’, however that was an easy fix. All he had to do was let them know.

It had been about a week since Yaku began telling people he was in a relationship so he assumed everything was good. That was until lunch came around for him.
“Yaku Morisuke!”  a girl called out, Yaku turned around and saw her. She had long black hair, fair skin, green eyes and really nice eyelashes. “I’ve been looking for you,” she smiled. However this wasn’t a usual smile, it was sly, as if she had something up her sleeve and Yaku took notice of that.

“Um, why?” he asked as he tried to walk past her.

“Date me.” she bluntly stated which caught Yaku off guard. It almost didn’t sound like a confession and more like a statement.

“Sorry I’m taken, but I appreciate the bluntness.” It took a lot for Yaku to not roll his eyes at this girl.

“Uhu, so I’ve heard…” she answered, “ but Yaku, who exactly are you dating?”

Shit, Yaku’s luck had officially run out. “Why do you need to know?”

“Well I’ve never seen you with anyone linked in your arms.” she answered now smirking.

“Sorry, we just started dating so things are obviously gonna be awkward at first.” The libero shrugged as he tried again to walk past her, however she stopped him again putting her hand on his chest to stop him from walking forward.

“Yeah but you’re never even seen with them!”

“That’s because we spend all after school together.”

“Oh? So you’re dating another athlete then? Or anyone in a club? Or do you meet them somewhere after school everyday?” She was pushy. There was no getting around her questions and Yaku didn’t have anyone nearby to get him out of this situation.

“Yeah. Something like that.”

“What sport does she play?”

“Volleyball.” he answered as if on instinct even though he knew damn well he was still single and this fact would fuck him over somehow. “And who said they were a ‘she’?”

Now Yaku was the one catching the other off guard, “...You’re gay?” she asked looking at the libero with a puzzled look.

“Bi, but that doesn’t matter. Point is, you’re being pushy right now when I’m clearly not interested so please, go.” he scoffed, not trying to hide his annoyance anymore.

“Not unless you promise you’ll reveal who you’re dating. Guy or not, I still think you’re lying.” She pressured.

“Think what you want, I’m done here.” Yaku walked away now worried about who the hell he’d ask to be his so-called ‘significant other’. Yeah, this was a shitty dilemma for him.
