Who are you?

Summary:

In which Link is trying to finish his shrine trial and runs into a certain bunny counterpart

Work Text:

Link let out a heaving breath as he stood before the Hinox, his body trembling under him as he struggled to keep himself standing. His sword had several chips in it, he was running low on arrows, and he was ready to pass out. But he had to do this, defeat the damn thing so he could open up the shrine on the hill.

He beat the other two, and he knew this one was close to being finished, so he just had to push himself a little further.

Link drew his bow back and pointed it at the eye of the Hinox, who was kneeling down to get a better look at it’s next ‘meal’. The thought made his stomach churn as he shot.

The beast cried out and fell back, a large puff of air from the impact causing Link to get thrown back. The blonde grit his teeth and shakily stood, running over and swinging as hard as he could. His arms screamed for mercy as he swung.

He ran back as the beast stood and slammed it’s hands on the ground, shaking the ground around the hero. Link did his best to stay standing, but his knees gave out from under him and he couldn’t push himself back up.

His sword laid broken at his side, and his shield was in a similar state. The arrows he had worked so hard to neatly bundle together were now spread scattered around him. Helplessly, he began to reach for one, grunting in frustration when he couldn’t even manage to get close.

The Hinox stomped towards him and he prepared to get crushed, clenching his eyes shut and silently cursing out his goddesses for choosing such a failure to be their hero. Not only had he died 100 years prior, but here he would die again.

What a joke.

Link braced for impact, but instead found himself still in one piece. He heard someone start screaming and opened his eyes, his body flooding with panic. Why was a civilian near here!?

A person dressed in a purple robe and a bunny hood stood mere yards away from the hero, waving his arms and screaming for the Hinox to come at him. The blonde narrowed his eyes and watched as the bunny- person began running, the Hinox following suit.

The hero took the chance to recover, slowly lifting himself and reaching around for his arrows. His body trembled, begging for sleep, begging for the hero to just let the bunny handle the Hinox- but he had a duty to fulfill. He wouldn’t fail someone else again.

Link stood, wobbling as he drew his bow back, snapping his fingers to electrify the tip of the arrow. He aimed, narrowing his eyes. The bunny man was circling back towards him, perhaps he knew Link’s plan?

Either way, the blonde took his chance and shot, the arrow landing in the eye of the Hinox. The monster cried out and fell back, dissolving into a cloud of black mist.

Link fell flat on his face as his vision went dark, barely registering the bunny-person had begun to cry out his name.

Link awoke with a start. He sat up, his breath catching in his throat as he registered his surroundings.

He was in his house, all the way in Hateno.

The blonde blinked rapidly and glanced down over the railing, seeing the bunny-person sat on the floor, holding a small white crow in their hands. He watched as the bunny petted it’s feathers, a small smile on his face.

He’d defeated the Hinox, and the civilian was okay.

*Wait. How did he know where he lived?*

“Oi,” Link called, his voice a rasp in comparison so how it normally was. The bunny jumped and looked up.

“Oh- you're awake! Good! It’s been a few days and I was getting worried you were dead!”

Link blinked, “How did you know where I lived?”

The bunny tilted their head, before gasping, “Oh! I suppose I haven’t introduced myself!”

Link watched as the bunny took off his hood. His eyes went wide as he peered down at someone who looked identical to himself. His features were much softer, his eyes were green, and his hair was dark- but there was no mistaking that the person before him looked like him.

“Nice to formally met you, Mr. Hero,” The bunny-person smiled up at him, a shine in his eyes. “My names Ravio, and I was sent from Lorule to help you defeat the calamity.”
