Work Text:
Figaro thought he would never see him again. But Lennox insisted they at least get back on speaking terms. Losing a perfectly good friendship over something as trivial as a breakup isn't worth it.
Now they meet, the three of them, going out every other day that they can. They laugh and ride their brooms together, they sing and they dance, they lay around each other's rooms or loiter in the kitchen and bother Nero a bit while they drink the finest liquor they could find that day. Their chats are always meaningless, but somehow full of memory.
It felt wrong for him to stand with Faust so close to his side again.
He was surprised he had it in him to answer his call on that one night Faust randomly decided to call him, since he was the last person left that could possibly answer him.
And he felt light,
sitting there on his floor,
chatting with him,
just like they used to. Only without the touches.
No more arms wrapped around each other. No legs tangled up. No lips meeting. And they did not pour their glasses for each other anymore, only for themselves.
But that call was a blessing-- they spoke for the whole night until the sun rose and Figaro excused himself, yawning and saying it was 'time for bed.'
When him and Faust meet now, alongside their dearest friend Lennox, it isn't bitter, nor is it entirely sweet.
They never ride on the same broom anymore, never too close together, but always next to each other. Just close enough.
They do not sleep in the same bed. Figaro doesn't tease him as much when they have dinner together. Faust still shows concern for him when he talks about something stupid he did recently.
Their hands didn't inch over to try and meet when they shared a seat.
Figaro's eyes tried to not overstep, to not dare look at Faust's face and hair for too long. Faust pretended not to notice, or so Figaro assumes.
Figaro mourned what they had, in secret. There were nights where he wondered if Faust ever did the same.
...He hoped not.
It wouldn't be fair, but Figaro wished he could ask to promise they wouldn't leave each other again. To promise they wouldn't leave each other in the dark.
But he couldn't say he didn't miss their love. How tragic.
