Marshmallow

Summary:

Simon has a secret.

And that secret is his eyes.

Notes:

Prompt: Eyes

Work Text:

While they were very fond of going out and seeing all there was to see of the city, Nahyuta could also appreciate the moments of calm that came with Simon’s idea of a date.

Date was perhaps a little generous on Nahyuta’s part, as his idea of a date seemed to consist of the two of them being over at the other’s house and being together. On occasion there was a movie or something of that nature on, but for the most part it was just them doing separate things together.

As much as they complained, it was nice to get the chance to do nothing and not worry about anything or anyone. It was a nice balance to Simon complaining about their choice in date, when they both knew it was a great opportunity to see the city that neither of them really knew.

Today, they were at Simon’s watching him play some game with a dog while a movie played in the background. Neither had really caught their attention, as the movie was some needlessly gorey mess that their brother would no doubt like, and they didn’t have a solid reason not to like the dog game. It was a pretty little game, but they just weren’t interested in it today.

This would be an excellent opportunity to have a nap. They had had naps at Simon’s before, it was an excellent way to sleep off the jetlag they’ve never really had time to address and Nahyuta knew that they would do this again in the future.

But while their Panda made an excellent teddy bear, Nahyuta  found their thoughts lied elsewhere. More specifically, their thoughts lie on that mop of black hair with that white streak that fell past Simon’s eyes.

“Panda, how on earth do you see through this mess of hair of yours?”

“It’s not a mess, I brushed it this morning, Mourning Dove,” Simon grunted.

“Ignoring the fact I don’t believe you, you’re dodging the question.”

“Well now my feelings are hurt. Perhaps I’ll cry about it,” Simon continued, dancing around the issue.

“With those streaks under your eyes, I don’t doubt it.”

Though they were noticeably better than when Nahyuta first met him. They were by no means fully better, but they were certainly a lot better. It didn’t help that he was only slightly less of a crybaby than their little brother and Prosecutor Debeste.

“How many prayers is penance for making an innocent panda cry?” Simon asked, the smirk on his lips casting doubt on how genuine his question was.

“About the same as avoiding a monk’s question.”

“Good thing I’m not religious,” he snorted.

Nahyuta rolled their eyes. “You can truly be a test of my patiences…”

“I made no effort to conceal how difficult a person I am. You have only yourself to blame for this.”

He was completely insufferable. Unfortunately that was part of his charm and allure, and that was why he picked him.

“You’re starting to make me wonder if you even have eyes.”

“Oh woe is me, my secret has gotten out. Now my dear Sad Monk knows I have no eyes. Now what will they think of me?” Simon bemoaned monotonously, before the smirk he struggled to withhold for his dramatic line made a reappearance.

“Somehow I find that unlikely.”

“What, you don’t believe that I have no eyes? How fickle can you be, Mourning Dove? Might I remind you that you were the one who brought it up?” he grinned, like the hawk who got the defense attorney.

“So you expect me to believe this whole time, you’ve never been able to see. And you’ve never used any sort of aide to get around?”

“I use echolocation,” the man who has claimed to own a service hawk confidently declared.

“And I’m to believe that?”

“I’m sorry. It’s such a silly answer. I should’ve chosen something more reasonable like your brother who feels lies and my niece who hears emotion.”

That was a fair point, and unfortunately Nahyuta lacked a rebuttal. They both had ridiculous families, but they knew for a fact that he was telling them lies.

“If you don’t give me a proper answer, I’m going to have to take matters into my own hands.”

“A threat? In my own home? From my own Mourning Dove?” his theatrics showing that he doubted them, even now.

Well he gave him little choice but to react.

They reached up, and pushed back his bangs, revealing his eyes.

Honestly they weren’t prepared for this at all.

There was something disarming about seeing his eyes. As if their Panda was a marshmallow, and they had pulled back the burnt exterior to reveal a soft interior.

They were always aware that he was a lot like a marshmallow, at least on the interior. They just weren’t expecting it to also be true of his physical appearance.

His pale white cheeks were dusted a soft pink. One of the benefits of dating someone so afraid of the sun even after gaining his freedom was that it made him so much easier to fluster.

“Oi. What’s with that sappy look?” his confident smirk now replaced with a scowl. His now visible eyes flicking away.

“I always seem to forget my Panda is a marshmallow,” they calmly smiled.

Simon scoffed, but never once moved his gaze to them, choosing instead to look at some other part of the room. “Need I remind you that one of us spent time in the clink for murder?”

They could easily bring up the fact that those were false charges, and how the reason he was brought up on those charges only furthered their point on how he was a marshmallow. But being a holy person, Nahyuta would be merciful. Given how red he got from someone making direct eye contact without the protection of his bangs, they weren’t sure if he’d be able to survive such a comment.

“Oh yes, I’ve completely forgotten that you’re a big, strong, criminal ,” they kissed him, also not bringing up that they’re a rebel and an actual criminal. They pulled back, letting his bangs fall. “Though perhaps next time I’ll bring hair clips and push those bangs out of your eyes.”

The canopy of bangs had fallen, and yet they could still tell that he was avoiding looking at him. “Bugger off, my hair is fine. This is how I like it. Will you leave it be if I task you with our next date plan?”

“It is my turn to pick next, yes.”

He gave them one last flustered scowl before the rest of his face disappeared behind his console. “Oh, fuck off.”

“I love you, Panda.”

There was a pause as Simon grumbled. “I love you too, Mourning Dove.”
