Chapter Text
it’s not like bennett ever intended to fall.
in fact, if anything, he had disregarded himself against it all throughout his life. with his luck, falling like that would only lead to the bitter heartbreak again and again that he was so familiar with already.
the moment he felt himself smiling, he hid it away as a joke. when he felt his cheeks warm, he tossed it away as a bitter cold. when his heart drummed faster, he denied it as fear of some surprise attack.
and he was surprised alright, when he found himself crumbling under the idea of a hand intertwined with his, or a tender night-long embrace, or the silver locks of a person that was totally and completely his to hold.
why did it turn out like this, then? he had almost forgotten, in all the rose-colored shadows in his mind, that the world had deemed him to a cursed and wicked fate.
he begged they wouldn’t fall with him.
once the realization set in, he was already suspended in open air, and the sediment was falling faster than he, and the sting from a slit on his leg was hardly amind to the rocks crumbling off the cliffside.
oh.
oh, haha. funny, then. i almost thought id kiss them too.
just my luck, i guess.
im literally about to die and these thoughts are so bland... maybe that’s a good thing, though! death is fortunate after all! less pain, less worry, less…
he knew he spoke too soon when he saw a figure leaping off the precipice, screaming out his name as they plummeted towards him, using their heavy sword to weigh them down.
no. no no no this can’t be happening now. why would you-
his name was invisible compared to the weight and screaming sounds of rushing winds, a flurry of emotions tearing through bennett’s skull as he choked a breath. tears wallowed in his eyes, but the outstretching land below followed faster.
this wasn’t a movie. they couldn’t fall forever.
so he fell.
and they reached.
and he fell.
and they screamed.
and he hit.
and their eyes opened in a moment of unrivaled fear, before crashing into the rolling ocean, their eyes slamming shut in a way they almost hoped would never open again.
