Work Text:
Sweet, that was one of the words Aesop Carl used to describe his beloved boyfriend. And it wasn’t really wrong if you think about it, Victor Grantz was always a sweet man, ready to give everyone the letters that had their name written on it with a smile! Even if he isn’t much of talking, his face does the job every single time.
Aesop thinks that that was the real reason he was attracted to the blonde in the first place, how he could express emotion without a single word. Maybe in a way he was jealous, maybe in a way he was just interested, nobody could really understand the reason why the always alone and people-hating Aesop was always with the silent and people-afraid Victor were always together. Not that it matters to them too much anyways, nobody interacts with the gray haired man and most of them only interact with the blonde by his dog or just between letters. In part, some of them were happy that they are not alone anymore.
The meetings between them were really silent, sometimes a few whines and barks from Wick’s part, or the sound of pencil writing on a paper, but there wasn’t more to it. Aesop didn’t mind at all, the only thing he wanted was to be the most time possible beside the postman. And it was working… just not in the way he thought.
Catching feelings was never in the embalmer’s mind, with all honesty, he thought he couldn’t feel love at all. So the day he noticed that what he felt towards him was love, he panicked a bit. But it was only a matter of time for both of them to get together in something more serious, they were meant to be by each other’s side. Aesop was the most sure about it.
He made sure to make every moment together the best one, giving him flowers, small gifts, even physical interaction, the most unexpected one of them all. And his love wasn’t that far from it, his way of showing love was more of writing his feelings than anything else, so the blonde was the closest to using words to show feelings. It was ideal for them, since it wasn’t uncomfortable at all, both of them loved the way they interacted, even Wick liked it (maybe because Aesop always brought him a present? most surely.) so the couple was really a perfect one, you could feel the envy from the rest of their mates.
This kept going on and on, even Aesop managed to buy a separate place to live but still was attached to the game, he didn’t mind anymore, everything was perfect if his true love was there! The only bad thing was that his blonde could get hurt anytime, that was his only regret. A sweet human with a pretty face shouldn’t get hurt at all, that was a waste of perfection! Not that it matters anymore. A letter to the manor was all he needed to get Victor out of the hell of a game they were meant to be forever. Now he could finally protect it forever, sometimes the embalmer wonders if this was a dream… if so, he doesn’t want to wake up from it, never.
They ended up having a routine with the time, Aesop had his matches on the night to take care of the postman in the day. His lover was as silent as ever, but there was one thing worrying his caretaker, he was refusing to eat for some days… maybe he was sick? No need to worry! Aesop will take care of it, so every morning he gave the blonde breakfast. He could also note that Victor was more lazy now, but that doesn’t matter either! He will take care of cleaning and dressing his lover. The gray haired one also took care of taking out for a walk their dear Wick, who somehow was a bit lazy too… maybe not working anymore was being a trouble? Maybe later Aesop will think about a way to make this better.
From time to time Aesop liked to dance with the blonde, his movements were a bit stiff, not that it mattered! The embalmer was always ready to guide him and teach him how to flow better. They also sometimes drew together or sang a few tones! Though… Victor didn’t sing, and his drawings were just lines that the embalmer helped him make… not a problem at all! Not everyone was talented at everything, and his dear Victor didn’t need to be excellent at anything honestly! Just being a beautiful man was enough for him.
Today was a different day… it was Victor’s birthday! (and he thinks it was also another holiday…? nothing special.) so Aesop woke up earlier to prepare everything, his look, the food and decorate the place! Everything had to be perfect, just as he was. He just hoped that the ex-postman didn’t wake up earlier than planned… and it didn’t happen, what a lucky man. Aesop could even go to their shared room to wake him up with a cake and his gift. Victor was smiling as always, didn’t say a word, but Aesop didn’t mind, his expression was everything! The latter opened his gift to show his lover the inside, a beautiful ring with a silver flower and a yellow diamond at the center. The flower made out of silver was exactly a ranunculus, commonly known as a ‘buttercup’, Aesop chose it because they represent radiant charm and beauty, perfect words to match his soon to be husband! It was obvious that Victor would say yes… his way.
The day has come! they decided it was not going to be something extravagant at all, just both of them and Wick. So Aesop just prepared their clothing and hairstyle, something he was used to due to embalming, sometimes familiars of the client asked him for a certain look, nothing to worry. Both of them looked beautiful… even the dog had his own clothing! Ah, such a perfect couple they were!
But nothing was forever beautiful, was it? Those jealous ‘teammates’ the embalmer had interrupted their lovely dance, when Aesop was teaching Victor how to be more gentle and move more. Something was clear, they wanted to take his love away from him, but why? the only thing he could hear was people shouting “He’s dead!” “I knew it…” “This freak did this!” huh? What did they mean? Victor was very much alive! didn’t they see it? His lovely smile, his fluffy blonde hair… his dark eyes, they lost a bit of shine, but it wasn’t anything to worry! He was as beautiful as ever! The postman also had his pale and soft skin, a bit cold, but not a problem. Everything was okay, so why were they shouting at him about killing his lover and even his dog? They were perfect! Just a bit more skinny and lazy, but nothing more. That was really rude from their part… but since they were jealous Aesop didn’t mind!
But they took him away. They took Victor away! Aesop finally shouted back, screaming that everyone was lying and just jealous of their perfect relationship, that they couldn’t see how the postman was screaming to come back to his arms! obviously they wouldn’t know, they couldn’t understand the blonde like him, not at all. But he couldn’t do a thing with two of the strongest people in the manor holding him, what a shame.
If they only had waited for a bit more… if his syringe were only a bit closer… everyone could have celebrated the wedding together. But they were horrible people, Aesop knew that more than anyone. They just wanted to separate him, so they didn’t deserve freedom and to keep their beauty forever… What a shame, there were a few people that the embalmer would have loved to help.
The last thing Aesop remembers was his loved one in a beautiful, not more than the one in it, coffin… along with his dog. They looked so peaceful and sweet, surrounded by buttercups… What a great job he had done! Maybe he was happy now that those mean and jealous people took him away, since now he could appreciate him more than ever. With a soft whisper, and his trusty syringe in hand, he promises to Victor that he will be beside him soon, he promised to protect him forever, right?
