Notes:

This came in late! I promised this fic as a children’s day mini fic but then life happened and that’s that… Also, I edited using my phone; and I’m still struggling since I’m used to using my laptop in writing fics. Pls ignore the minor errors made in this short fic! I hope you enjoy another fluff cliche dump from me~

“Can I kiss the baby’s cheeks, eomma?”

Yeonjun first kissed him at 4 years old. Soobin didn’t actually remember but his mom has kept the photo and has been reminding him as he grew up. ‘Yeonjunnie’s your first kiss’, his eomma would always say giddily.

It all started when they’re both little babies. Their parents, being good friends, had planned to have their children have their ages close. His mom and dad took him to a strangers’ house just a few blocks away from their home. Soobin just sat there by the nice strangers’ beautiful garden as his parents introduced another young boy.

“Hyung here is five years old and he’s gonna be your best friend.” his mother said gently, patting Soobin’s head, as he clung to her and hid behind her. Soobin just stood and stared in fear at the boy a few feet away, who was staring back with his head tilted in curiosity. “Don’t you want to meet Yeonjunnie hyung?”

The answer to that was no, little 4 year old Soobinie did not want to meet anyone in particular. He would’ve quite liked to never speak to another person again, other than his mom or dad, and even then he was still quiet. It started drizzling a bit, little droplets of rain pouring, as the other boy scrunched his nose in a cute manner and giggled. Soobin wanted to pull his mom towards the close balcony but his eomma had nudged him again, and it was clear the only way out was to say hi to the other boy.

Soobin let go and stepped towards the other boy, his gaze firmly on the ground at his feet, trying to blink out the tiny droplets of water…as he sniffled and mumbled, “Hello… Woon… Yeon.. junnie… hwung…”

Yeonjun immediately gasped in delight, shouting, “Hi! Baby Soobinnie!!” before grabbing Soobin’s face and planting a huge, disgusting kiss on Soobin’s mouth. To say he was stunned was an understatement, Yeonjun even started giggling at Soobin’s wide eyes and Soobin quickly ran towards his parents, feeling embarrassed while their parents just laughed.

“Sorry about that,” Yeonjun’s mother said through her giggles. “It seems to be a phase he’s going through.”

Soobin’s mom waved her concerns off, “He’s young and it’s cute, look how red Soobinie’s face is.”

It was after those small introductions that the rain started pouring harder. Both families started running inside the house with Yeonjun quickly grabbing his hand, giggling as both little boys ran.

Yeonjun first kissed him at four years old and that was the start of their life long kisses.

“Binnie!” Eight year old Yeonjun shouted in delight, running around Soobin’s bedroom and suddenly found the joy to climb up and jump on sleeping Soobin’s bed. “Binnie! Get up! Get up!”

“Stooop!” Soobin groaned, pushing him away and sending Yeonjun stumbling back. “Hyung! Stop! I’m getting dizzy!”

Yeonjun crawled towards his body, pulling away his covers and pressed a kiss on his cheek.

“Hyung! Why would you kiss me?! And what are you doing here so early?”

“I only kissed you on the cheek this time!” pout heard from Yeonjun’s mumbles as he plopped down on Soobin, throwing his whole body on the younger. “Don’t you wanna go ride a bicycle?”

Soobin frowned, squirming under the overly excited Yeonjun. “Bicycle?”

“Uh-huh!” he giggled, wrapping his arms around Soobin’s body. “My dad got me one! And I have to show you! I brought it with me! It’s waiting for us downstairs!”

“You’re lying,” Soobin said, squinting at Yeonjun. “You just want to play with me because you have no one to play with!”

“Shut up!” Yeonjun snapped, sticking out his tongue, “You do too!”

Soobin’s mother was apparently watching them, was probably there for a while, leaning against his door frame, “Soobin, don’t you want to go and play outside with Yeonjunnie today? If so, you could help me with the cleani—”

Soobin pushed Yeonjun away from him and immediately sat up. “No! Come on, Yeonjun hyung! I wanna see your bicycle!”

“Be back soon, Soobinie,” his mother scolded anyway. “And remember to brush your teeth before going out!”

Soobin rushed to his bathroom. “I know, mom, I will!”

“Thank you, Auntie,” Yeonjun whispered as soon as Soobin’s back was turned.

Soobin’s mother smiled and ruffled his hair. “No problem, Yeonjunnie. Have fun with your new bike!,” she whispered back before leaving to go do what mothers usually do on a Sunday.

As soon as they both got out of Soobin’s house, Soobin saw Yeonjun’s brand new bicycle. It looked cool — a bicycle with no training wheels! It’s actually a bike for older boys! — and he actually wanted to try it out. He waited patiently for Yeonjun to ride it first and was hoping his hyung would teach him afterwards. However, instead of riding the bike, Yeonjun just dragged it as they walked towards the park, “What are we even doing?” Soobin grumbled, not appreciating being dragged out so early against his will. “I thought we’re gonna ride the bike!”

In fact, it was such a gloomy day, no sunshine, the air a bit breezy, and clouds hovering the sky that Soobin just wanted to stay at home, cuddle into some toasty blanket, play some video games, or probably watch some anime but here he was walking towards the park to ride a bicycle. It didn’t make sense.

“Uh…” Yeonjun bashfully stared at this bicycle, pulling it closer to him protectively, “um…”

“Spit it out, hyung!”

“I actually…uh... don’t know how to ride it yet…” Yeonjun mumbled, ears turning red as he stared down to his feet.

“What?! You asked me to ride a bicycle and you’re telling me that you can’t?!”

Embarrassed, Yeonjun tried to shush him, “Shut up! I was excited to show you, okay! I thought we could learn it together anyway”

Soobin laughed at Yeonjun’s red face, he had never seen his hyung this flustered before, “You’re so excited about your new bike yet you can’t even ride it!”

“If you’re so great, why don’t you ride it then!”

“Okay, I will!” Soobin said smugly, “It’s stupid to have a bicycle and not ride it!”

And so, seven year old Soobin bravely hopped on the bicycle and would finally start pedaling until hard rain started pouring out of nowhere causing him to slip, falling sideways. His body slammed onto the pavement, he can almost feel his soul leaving his body, and he lies on the floor, shocked.

Groaning, he rolled onto his back, wheezing. Yeonjun’s head hovered above his, “I’M SO SORRY, ARE YOU OKAY, BINNIE?! ARE YOU OKAY?!,” the boy cried, tears hardly visible from the pouring rain. Yeonjun fussed all over him, staring right through his eyes, his head and checking every inch of his skin for any possible wounds.

And suddenly, Soobin started bawling his eyes out, “It’s your fault! How could you let me ride this! I think the bicycle’s broken! How’re you gonna ride this now?! Uncle’s gonna hate me and you’re gonna hate me an—” Soobin grimaced slightly at the pounding headache he suddenly felt from shouting, and crying as he struggled to sit up.

“No, it’s okay Soobinie” Yeonjun shushed him, helping the younger and pulling him towards his warmth, and if Soobin listened closely, he would hear Yeonjun’s small whimpers too, “Hyung’s not mad, I don’t hate you. I’m sorry. It’s all hyung’s fault. I’m sorry. Hyung didn’t learn how to ride the bicycle. Yeonjunnie should be the one teaching Soobinie. I’m so sorry.”

Whimpers of pain escaped the younger’s lips as he sobbed on Yeonjun’s shoulder. They continued sobbing over the pavement, clothes wet from the ongoing rain, — something their moms wouldn’t be happy about — and only when Soobin stopped shaking did Yeonjun pulled away, making sure that Soobin’s alright.

“Is Binnie feeling better?” Yeonjun took one look at Soobin’s distraught expression, bottom lip trembling and promptly burst out into tears again.

Soobin was confused as to why his hyung was crying. He wasn’t the one who fell down. He wasn’t the one who should be embarrassed. Soobin wiped Yeonjun’s face free from teardrops and raindrops — which was which, he’ll never know— as he squinted through the pouring rain, “I’m okay, Yeonjunnie.”

“A-Are…You sure?”

“Yeah, I’m sure.” Soobin did his best to sit up straight, moving away from Yeonjun’s arms.

“Pinky-promise?”

“Pinky–promise.”

To his surprise, Yeonjun’s face splits into a huge grin, an adorable smile lighting his face up, and the boy’s eyes crinkle in the corners, “I’m so glad you’re okay, Binnie.” Before pulling his collar and giving him a quick gross kiss on the mouth.

Yeonjun kisses him at 7 and suddenly Soobin doesn’t feel hurt about his aching body anymore.

3

“Happy birthday, hyung.”

“Chubs!” Yeonjun shouted, pulling his reluctant best friend of eight years now into a hug that was way too tight and just a little too long.

“Stop with the ‘chubs’ already,” Soobin grumbled once he was released, handing over this year’s present.

“Never,” Yeonjun said with a grin. Yeonjun was now thirteen, yet nothing really changed.

“Hey, Binnie chubs, come with me,” Yeonjun said after glancing over his shoulder to make sure no one was watching. A couple boys from their school were all piled on Yeonjun’s couch, shouting over a video game. It was so different from Yeonjun’s previous birthdays, but it still felt like it’s exactly the same. Yeonjun grabbed Soobin’s wrist and dragged him towards their garden.

“Why are we here? Look! It looks like it’s gonna rain” Soobin groaned once they’re behind the huge garden tree where their old treehouse used to be. Soobin stuck his palms out to feel the light drizzle.

“I want my birthday kiss,” Yeonjun pouted, his fists balled at his sides.

“Aren’t we too old for this?”

“There’s no such thing as too old for kisses!”

Soobin narrowed his eyes. “Why do you want to kiss me anyway?”

Yeonjun tilted his head in confusion, like it was the most obvious thing in the world. “One,” Yeonjun said, holding up a finger, “you’re my best friend,” he pouted, getting closer to Soobin.

“I’m pretty sure this isn’t what other best friends-”

“And two,” Yeonjun interrupted, holding up a second finger, “we’ve done it for so long, it’d be weird if we didn’t.”

“No, it wouldn’t.”

“Yes, it would!”

“Why would it be weird?” Soobin said with an exasperated sigh.

“Because it just is! And why do you NOT WANT to kiss me? Is it that horrible? Are my kisses always horrible? Am I disgusting now? Does Soobinie hate me now? Are you embarrassed about hyung now? What if-"

“Fine,” Soobin snapped. It was taking too long and they’ll get soaked if it takes any longer, “Just do it already and shut up.”

Yeonjun immediately stepped forward and put his hands on Soobin’s shoulders. Soobin was just the teensiest bit taller — much to Soobin’s satisfaction — so Yeonjun had to tilt his head up just slightly as he leaned in. And he leaned in a lot slower than he usually did — or maybe it just seemed that way in Soobin’s head — which was really weird, but not nearly as weird as it was when Yeonjun’s lips actually touched Soobin’s.

It wasn’t the same quick, gross peck like you get on the cheek from your grandma before she gives you some nice spending money. It was like…  a kiss

A real, soft, I-really-enjoy-what-your-lips-taste-like kiss, and it immediately made Soobin’s stomach dip in a way that was not unpleasant. It didn’t even feel gross at all. And Soobin definitely felt something heavy on his stomach after that, especially with how Yeonjun’s smile dazzled after the kiss, the light drizzle of rain making the sight look a thousand times better.

Yeonjun kisses him at 12 just because it’s Yeonjun’s birthday.

4

Soobin didn’t know how to stop Yeonjun’s kisses.

They’re in high school now; Yeonjun’s seventeen and he’s sixteen. Yeonjun’s affection becoming a bit too public and a bit too embarrassing for Soobin’s liking.

Just like now; he was gripped by Yeonjun on his shoulders, just as they were heading towards the cafeteria. Yeonjun grabbed him by the arm as Soobin walked, just so he could sweep in, pressing his lips against Soobin’s soft cheek, just a little too close to the corner of his lips.

Soobin blinked at him, the color rushing to his face all of a sudden “What—”

“Have a nice lunch, Binnie,” Yeonjun whispered, giving his shoulders one more squeeze before pushing him back to his friends. “Let’s walk together later, okay!” Yeonjun cupped his mouth with his hands, scrunching up his nose cutely as he yelled up at Soobin.

Soobin felt another twinge in his chest, and he determinedly ignored it as he nodded his head, watching as Yeonjun gave him one last smile before catching up with his fellow seniors, all of them trickling into the cafeteria. Soobin continued staring even when Yeonjun wasn’t in his sight anymore.

“Apparently, Soobinnie’s got a boyfriend~,” one of his classmates teased as he sat by their lunch table.

“What are you talking about?”

They all gave him an unimpressed look. “The kiss, Soobin. I don’t know. Yeonjun sunbae flirting and kissing you almost every time you see each other?

Soobin frowned at them. “I don’t date Yeonjun hyung, what the heck?”

“Are you for real? Isn’t Yeonjun sunbae your boyfriend?”, one of them asked incredulously, but Soobin scowled at them, landing a weak punch on his left upper arm. “No, he’s not. Don’t say that! I’m not dating him! He’s my best friend that’s all!”

Soobin could feel his cheeks warming up — in anger? embarrassment? he doesn’t know. All he knows is that he doesn’t like the rumors of him and Yeonjun dating when they’re definitely not. Thankfully, the topic was dropped and all of them had an awkward lunch time.

Soobin blames it on the kisses. Everyone thinks they’re dating because Yeonjun kept on kissing him. Everywhere, anytime, any place . It was getting ridiculous. Soobin needed to put a stop to it.

As expected, Yeonjun was waiting for him by the school gates. Soobin’s mood was as dark and foul as the sad pouring weather, while Yeonjun on the other hand was standing there with his umbrella and sunshiny smile as he waved Soobin over.

Soobin took a deep breath, lines memorized in his head. ‘Hyung please stop kissing me, it’s really embarrassing.’ Repeated again and again inside his head. Thoughts were stopped, however, as soon as he reached under Yeonjun’s umbrella. His hyung had suddenly reached for his cheek, placing a quick teasing peck on his lip, giggling afterwards.

“Hyung." Soobin, a bit embarrassed as his classmates stopped to stare at the scene being played out. All those years and they still think it's funny enough to stand and snicker at the sight. "This is getting too annoying" he deadpanned.

Soobin walked away with that. Head ducked into the jacket of his school uniform, trying to run back home, avoiding the rain and ignoring Yeonjun's cries of "Ya! Soobinnie! Soobin-ah!"

The rain started pouring harder, trying his best to lose sight of Yeonjun, Soobin hid behind one of the vending machines by the nearest corner, not minding the pouring rain.

Of course, Yeonjun saw him, because he’s damn too tall and even if he tried to hide, Yeonjun would surely find him.

"Ya!" is all Yeonjun gets out before Soobin turns to leave him again. “Choi Soobin!" Yeonjun called out once again as he sprinted towards the taller.

Soobin abruptly turned and screamed angrily, "What!? What do you want?!”

Yeonjun came to a halt with a jolt as he simply stared at him.

It was the first time that Soobin has ever raised his voice at his hyung. But, Yeonjun's shock doesn't stop there, because when Soobin’s range never stopped there, "will you stop doing this already!? I'm fucking sixteen now!"

And Yeonjun didn’t understand. He really doesn't, "I don't get it. What's the problem here?"

"The problem is you!" Soobin yelled angrily as he pointed at the Yeonjun fiercely, "don't you know how embarrassing it is when you go to my classroom? How you’d excuse me from class just to give me my forgotten lunch and leave kisses for everyone to see? And to top it all off you just have to fucking kiss me everytime you see me as if we’re dating!”

Yeonjun opened his mouth to speak, but Soobin cut him off again.

"Stop kissing me already!" He seethed as he screams louder if possible, attracting the eyes of pedestrians and students alike, rain not even helping their current predicament, "my friends think we're dating and it's disgusting!"

He could see his hyung trying to keep his emotions at bay. Yeonjun spoke in a chipped voice, "Fine. If that’s what you want.”

They share a glaring match with each other for what feels like too long. And then they part ways.

The next day, when Soobin attended his classes, Yeonjun wasn’t seen anywhere and Soobin never really talked to Yeonjun after that.

Yeonjun kisses him at 16 because he wanted to… but then Soobin finally snapped

5

Yeonjun stops being affectionate for a year.

Ever since Soobin had transitioned into junior high and with Yeonjun graduating soon, it has been difficult for the boys to meet up often as they used to. Soobin had more school commitments, which usually led him to spend most of his weekends completing homework and studying. Yeonjun had also made newer, older group of friends — that Soobin is not all that familiar with — and they took up most of Yeonjun’s free time as well.

The relationship between Soobin and Yeonjun never quite recovered from the event from a year ago. After that one rainy afternoon, Yeonjun didn’t make any more efforts to reach out and connect to him, and in return, Soobin didn’t bother either. It hurt, of course. More than he expected it to be.

Because he wasn’t expecting to lose his best friend.

He missed him; Soobin misses the way Yeonjun would be adamant about holding his hand, even when he felt embarrassed, and misses the way Yeonjun would excitedly tell Soobin about his day, no matter how bizarre it was. He even misses the way Yeonjun would complain and whine about how boring his classes were, and how he’s so keen on kissing him. Soobin misses everything about Yeonjun so much.

To say Soobin was devastated when he had heard about Yeonjun’s graduation was an understatement. It’s not like he wanted his hyung to stay in high school or something, but it was too soon. Soobin had long since come to terms with his feelings for his hyung and it had felt like his heart was torn apart whenever he glimpsed at him in the cafeteria during lunch, sharing sweet smiles that used to be made for him. The fact that they weren’t on speaking terms made everything a lot harder.

On Yeonjun’s graduation, their family invited Soobin’s family for dinner. Their parents shared kind words throughout Yeonjun’s graduation dinner, but Soobin and Yeonjun remained silent, chewing on their food and sending each other glances when they thought the other wasn't looking. Yeonjun tugged his sweater sleeves over his fingers and quickly took a peek at Soobin from across the table, blushing when they made unexpected eye contact. Soobin coughed against his hand embarrassedly and his cheeks burn a soft pink.

Soobin’s parents roll their eyes amusedly at the sight, whilst Yeonjun’s parents send each other a secretive and concerned look.

“I don’t know if Yeonjun’s told you all,” Yeonjun’s mother started, capturing the attention of everyone at the table, except for Soobin who seems to be trying to hide, “But he’s going to be leaving us and traveling to Seoul soon! My baby’s going to be a student at Seoul National University and make us all proud!”

Instantly, Soobin’s parents let out noises of delight as they all congratulated Yeonjun, who seemed so incredibly uncomfortable with all the attention. Soobin was silent, a little shocked at the news with his spoon frozen midway to his mouth. Yeonjun is … leaving?

“When are you going to be gone?” Soobin asked quietly and Yeonjun sent him a contrite expression before telling him that he’ll move his things in fifteen days. Fifteen days. In just fifteen days Yeonjun will say goodbye and move on to a better life in Seoul, leaving Soobin. Leaving Soobin with their broken friendship.

“Oh,” was all Soobin could utter as he turned back to his plate, ignoring the stares he could feel boring into the side of his head from his and Yeonjun’s parents. “Congratulations, Yeonjunnie hyung,” realizing that his response may have been a bit rude and dismissive. Yeonjun gave him a rueful smile.

Soobin doesn’t want to say goodbye to Yeonjun, not when they haven’t even rekindled their relationship. He can’t lose his best friend forever. He doesn’t want to, especially when he’s unsure if they’ll ever get the chance to reconcile once more.

When dinner is finished, Yeonjun sheepishly asks Soobin if he’d want to join him by the gardens, which he responds enthusiastically to. Yeonjun giggles at the way he immediately jumps from his seat and grabs onto the end of his sweater sleeve to drag him up to their old tree house, ignoring the way their parents are eyeing them suspiciously as they disappear outside.

Soobin felt a lot more bashful and timid in front of Yeonjun now that they’re completely alone, outside, under the stars and in their childhood treehouse where they used to hang out on the weekends as kids. He feels awkward and guilty. And try as he might Soobin couldn’t get the fight out of his mind. His somber mood seemed to be felt by the skies as soft sprinkles of rain showered right outside their treehouse’s huge window. Soobin felt like there's an apology in order.

Yeonjun glanced at him briefly, unimpressed, before sighing deeply and shuffling closer to his side. He sat right beside him, on the edge, looking at Soobin who was trying very hard not to make eye contact with him. “Okay, Binnie, spit it out.”

“Spit what out?” Soobin mumbled, voice muffled.

“What’s bothering you?” Yeonjun clicked his tongue, landing a flick on Soobin’s exposed forehead.

“Hyung, I wanted to- to tell you, from the bottom of my heart, that I’m sorry for what happened a year ago,” Soobin started, trying not to look at Yeonjun and opening his heart up to him again after so long, “I was so... I didn’t know what I was thinking- I- I was young and really stupid, and I know that’s no excuse because I hurt you so terribly. And for that, I’ll always be sorry because you didn’t deserve that. I said nasty things and made you hate me and for that, I’m so sorry, hyung.”

Yeonjun didn’t interrupt him at all, remaining silent on his side. Soobin fiddled with his fingers before deciding to lay all his cards out on the table, no matter how scary it seemed.

“I’m still your best friend, right?” Soobin’s voice got a lot softer, “…well. You’ll be in college soon. You’ll meet cool, older people. I just thought…I mean, what does a seventeen year old, bad dongsaeng like me have in comparison to cooler, older people?”

Yeonjun sighed again before he flopped down on Soobin's shoulder. He wrapped his arms around Soobin’s torso before burying his face on Soobin’s neck; as if it was fine, as if the fight never happened, as if they never had that gap, tightening his hold around Soobin.

“Yeah, sure, there would probably be cooler people. Definitely older than you. I can probably meet people around my age and not hang around Soobinie who still worships Bebe Rexha,” Yeonjun mumbled into his neck, as he felt Soobin squirm in protest, “but you see, they’re not you, Binnie, and I very much like a dork named Choi Soobin best.”

Soobin stopped squirming, and without even looking at his face, Soobin knew full well that Yeonjun was smiling. He missed this. Missed Yeonjun’s hugs , his warmth. Soobin squirmed his arms, wiggling out of Yeonjun’s hug. When his arms were out, he quietly wrapped his arms around Yeonjun’s middle, the older of the two reflexively wrapping one arm around Soobin’s shoulder and pulling him closer.

Something warm fluttered in Soobin’s stomach, just like it always did when Yeonjun was around.

“Don’t forget me, okay,” Yeonjun warned, arms tightening around Soobin, right leg hooking over his waist.

“How could I ever? You’re my best friend.”

“I’m demanding my graduation gift then~” Yeonjun cheekily announced as he suddenly grabbed Soobin’s face. Soobin expected this, smiling softly as he let Yeonjun lean in, giving him a soft peck on his lips. “We’re even now, Binnie.”

Yeonjun kisses him at 18 just to assure Soobin that they’re alright again

But somehow, Soobin never understood the sadness in Yeonjun’s smile after giving him the kiss.

+1

When they both got into university, things got a lot busier than usual. Soobin found himself in a position he never knew he’d be in during his first year of university: single, lonely, working a minimum wage job, enviously bitter of others’ relationships, and studying his ass off.

He had honestly expected himself to be living his best life after finding out that he was accepted into the Seoul National University, officially majoring in the course he wanted, be in the same university Yeonjun’s in and actually sharing a room with his best friend. But the reality is far from fantasy, college is indeed a living hell.

Soobin had suffered academically for most of his first semester before he had finally found his feet and worked his way to becoming the top student in his year, something that required him sacrificing most of his time, sleep, and appetite. And he’s getting exhausted. Fortunately, Yeonjun was always there to guide him— and scold him.

Things in college never really brought change in their relationship.

Nothing changes between them.

Soobin still spends most of his time meeting Yeonjun on Sundays and their Saturdays are spent with their group of friends whenever they gather for a movie or a night out. And they both still called each other ‘chubs’.

Their holidays were, just like they always were, still spent with their families. Hanging by Yeonjun’s parents’ gardens or by Soobin’s childhood bedroom.

And honestly, nothing changes. They are still best friends that hang out together. Platonically. As platonic as cuddling during movies to feeding each other to going to these platonic best friend dates.

Nothing changes except one thing.

There was something distinctively missing and Soobin hated it.

Yeonjun stopped kissing him.

No more stolen kisses, no teasing smooches, no quick pecks. Not even a disgusting kiss on his cheek. Nothing.

Soobin had always wanted Yeonjun to stop kissing him but now that it really did stop, he couldn’t help but miss it. The saying ‘you don’t know what you’ve got ‘til it’s gone’ hits him right in the chest. But the truth is; Soobin knew what he always had, he just didn’t think he’d lose it.

He stepped out of the building and stared at the grey sky and the wet cement. Soobin sighed as he stared out into the pouring rain, his class just ended and he was stupid enough to forget his umbrella even if his hyung reminded him to bring one a bunch of times earlier that morning.

‘The sky looks sad today, chubs… better bring your umbrella, okay?’

He stared at students without umbrellas, rushing and covering their heads with their backpacks for hoodies. He sighed once more and decided to make a run for it. There’s nothing he could do anyway.

Someone took Soobin’s hand as he ran. He was soaking wet when two minutes later, he was sheltered under an umbrella.

"Hyung!" Soobin beamed. He heard Yeonjun groan, making the younger chuckle nervously. Because a groaning Yeonjun, before a hi or hello, is scary.

"Choi stupid Soobin, what did I tell you?!" He yelled. Soobin grimaced and rubbed his poor ear. "Didn't I tell you to bring your umbrella? Seriously, you're so stupid! Why won’t you listen to me?!" he scolded the taller. Soobin pouted again, "I kind of forgot." He mumbled.

"Well genius, of course you forgot, I wouldn't see you all soaked here, if you have it, right?" Yeonjun only becomes this sassy when the older is annoyed and frustrated, and sometimes worried. Like right now, it's a combination of the three to be very honest.

"I'm sowwy." Soobin said pitifully and heard Yeonjun sigh, despite the loud rain hitting their umbrella. "How would he ever live without me?”

Honestly, Soobin couldn’t. He doubt he’d even survive.

Yeonjun then noticed how Soobin shivered, "We need to get you home, fast." Yeonjun said, pulling Soobin closer to him. The younger blushed, surprised with the sudden action but felt at ease as he felt Yeonjun’s warm hand on his shoulder and Yeonjun’s warm chest on his arm and back.

Yeonjun has always been warm.

They stood in next to each other. Soobin looked at Yeonjun’s face intensely: he looks so small and soft, and the slightly soaked clothes and that messy hair, that his skin illuminating with the light from the lamppost beside them, his blushing cheeks, cute button nose, his pouty lips looks so kissabl–

Soobin stared a bit dumbly at the elder, still partly stuck in whatever moment he thought he was having. It’s at that moment that Soobin realized how he never really kissed Yeonjun despite all the times they’ve kissed. Yeonjun’s always the one initiating it.

What if…

So, he reached over, his mouth pulling into a crooked, nervous line as he cups Yeonjun's face in his palms and leans, praying Yeonjun will meet him halfway.

Because Soobin’s tired.

Of Yeonjun not kissing him.

Soobin pressed his lips to Yeonjun's, and he held still for just a minute—giving himself a moment to register that this was happening, finally—before parting his lips and Yeonjun followed suit. Yeonjun’s hands find their way to Soobin's torso, and they rest there, warm and heavy against Soobin's chest. Soobin felt warm even if he’s soaked.

Yeonjun’s mouth is soft and pliant and warm and wet, and Soobin doesn't blame himself for wanting to do this— missing it — for so long. The sounds of their mouths parting and reconnecting reverberate in Soobin's ears, making him dizzy.

Yeonjun let out a sigh into Soobin's mouth, and Soobin's lips curled into a smile. He pulled away for a moment to look at Yeonjun’s face—lips parted and blush high on his cheeks—before he grins even wider.

"I've wanted to"— Soobin paused, pressing a kiss to the corner of Yeonjun’s mouth—"do this"—another kiss, to the other side of his mouth—"for awhile, now." He punctuated with a kiss to Yeonjun’s lips. “Missed it so much, Yeonjunnie.”

Yeonjun’s chest thrummed with feeling, "Me, too."

Soobin leaned down once more to press his lips against Yeonjun’s smile.

It caught Yeonjun off guard, and his eyes widened before closing instinctively. The kiss was slow, a direct contrast to his sudden, drumming heartbeat. Yeonjun moved closer, using his grip on Soobin to drag him forward until their chests were pressed up against each other.

Soobin can feel Yeonjun’s heart beating rapidly—or maybe that's his own, he's not sure nor did he care, and Yeonjun’s breath was warm as it mingled with his. Always warm, always soft, unhurried. And it's was all his.

They gradually break away, as the pitter-patter of the rain starts getting harder and Soobin opened his eyes just in time for Yeonjun’s dazzling smile, his face is tinted a pretty shade of pink, but his lips curl to form a shy smile, and he leans his forehead against Soobin’s. It's so unfair how such a simple sight was enough to send Soobin’s heartbeat skyrocketing but then again, it always had been whenever Yeonjun’s around.

Soobin kissed Yeonjun under the pouring rain because he had always wanted to and that’s all that really mattered.

Notes:

I’ve had this childhood lovers idea since forever but never found a good plot for it until I watched MC Soobin yesterday and all these domestic feelings and ideas just went through me. Thus my ‘Yeonbin fluff’, ‘Yeonbin kisses’ and ‘kisses under the rain’ plus ‘childhood lovers' ideas came to life!

Also thank RunAwayForEternity cause I’ve been dumping all these fluff ideas onto her and she always urged me to write them.

Onto my other fics: I’ll be trying to update them as soon as I could but as you can see, I struggle writing long, descriptive scenes via phone and I don’t have much budget for a new laptop yet. Pre-ordered TXT’s Freeze albums even if I’m broke af because ✨PRIORITIES ✨

Can’t wait for the comeback!! Continue streaming MOAs 💙
