Work Text:

Rainbow lights dance around the room. The bass thumps louder than hearts. The alcohol spreading through the system takes over the mind. Bora feels ecstatic. It’s her domain where she can feel free, where her actions are nobody else’s business. She can do anything she wants like a bird spreading its wings to be free from its cage.

She owns the dance floor. As soon as she steps there, she gains everyone’s attention, hears whistles and cheers, all for her.

No one dares to interrupt her moment. That is, until soft hands cause her to open her eyes as she gets pulled in. A woman, much taller than her. Much different than her with the way she smiles purely, her touch soft, her moves smooth as she guides Bora in dancing.

She feels captivated and she knows in an instant that she’s going to be her next victim. Easy enough , she thinks, all of her past success filling her head with arrogance.

Bora wakes up the next day in someone else’s bed and she smiles to herself as the sun greets her skin, warm and bright. She feels the girl she remembers as Yoohyeon, moves beside her and she waits for the moment where she greets her good morning, asks for her number where she’ll agree because she needs to make her fall for her and to do that, she needs a couple more moments with her.

But neither of those are uttered.

“Make sure to lock the door when you go.”

Yoohyeon who’s now seated with her back leaning on the bed frame notices the lack of response so she looks at Bora and raises her brows. “What? Were you expecting something?”

Without saying anything, Bora leaves. She doesn’t panic. Maybe she’s one of those who likes to play hard to get but Bora is stubborn and what she wants, she makes sure she gets.

She spends the entire week looking for her. She went back to the club where they met, checked other clubs and bars, anywhere she’d most likely be.

She fails.

It’s until another week passes by that she meets her again, unplanned. She’s nearly on the verge of giving up and seeing her feels like a miracle.

She’s outside the bookstore and when Bora’s about to approach her, another woman does. She stops on her tracks and observes. She knows the look the other woman is giving her. She knows those gestures, those slight touches. She knows because those are the things she experiences with other women when they’re in love with her.

Yoohyeon leans on the girl’s ear as she locks her arms in her waist and meets Bora’s stare, smirking. She knows she’s watching. She wants her to keep watching so Bora does.

Yoohyeon walks past the girl and approaches her. She looks between her and the girl until she finally realizes what happened. The girl sees her and despite the tears streaming from her face, she shoots daggers at Bora. Her face is a mixture of hurt and rage and Yoohyeon has managed to make up a story, making her the cause for the girl’s pain.

Yoohyeon hugs her, obviously a fake one but she goes with it. She even winks at the girl until she stomps away. “I didn’t think children were your type,” Bora tells her when they break away.

“I think you’re more of a child than any of the girls I dated.”

She glares at her as a response. Sure she’s small but she’s far from a child.

“Not because of your height but from how you play the game.”

“Excuse me?”

Yoohyeon tucks a hair behind her ear and gives a cheeky grin. “You use your body and lust from other people. I, on the other hand, use wit.”

Bora wants to walk away badly. She can’t believe the word she actually thought of her was “pure” because she’s far from it. They aren’t different. They’re exactly the same and as opposites attract, they repel.

She grits her teeth and manages to stay on her ground. Her pride won’t let her leave easily. “And? What’s so bad about it? It’s not my fault they find me hot.”

“You definitely are.” Yoohyeon ogles her up and down, unashamed of how obvious her action is.

And so Bora achieves the wish of finding her and having a “moment” again. But she’s not quite pleased, feels like she lost rather than gained something.

They keep in contact after this and meet up whenever they’re free. Still, despite getting what she wanted, she doesn’t feel like she’s winning.

Time and time again, her mind occupies only her and dizzies her with questions she doesn’t know the answer to, or denies it. But she continues meeting with her, continues what they do, even if she loses herself bit by bit.

Months pass by and she’s outside Yoohyeon’s door, eyes red from crying. The other girl has decided to stop as it got boring. She couldn’t believe her ears just then. Bora is never boring. No one ever felt that she’s boring. And it’s Yoohyeon again who thinks otherwise.

All this time, Yoohyeon has been making Bora chase her while thinking she’s doing it to make her fall for her. She’s right about using her wit because it turns out, she has succeeded in making Bora obsessed with her, in thinking of nothing but her name, of making her ask herself with questions like “how do I make her fall for me?” while she herself has already been falling.

“You never caught anyone who fell for you, so now I’m doing the same.” She said.

Only one thing comforts Bora. Sure, she’s gotten her karma. But Yoohyeon will too. Because they’re just the same.
