Work Text:

Choked by its own overgrown branches and bushes of sweet pea petals, the forest resembled a sprawling netherian fortress, barricading the earth from the arctic warmth of the sun and silver of the sky. Yet she was stranded in the night, watching the sky split open to a storm as raindrops began careening in rivulets down her sun kissed face. The sky was an endless ocean, an icy wasteland, a river of stars.

But her eyes traced the uncommonly tall man with a blood dark shawl heaved with luxurious cotton and white fur. Compared to her all black clothes- the overly large brimmed hat and draped v-neck dress, her coal dusted hair running with the salty rainwater. The stranger’s body was attired with either victorian-like blouse and beige trousers, or the metal armour which could only be scoured from the depths of hell was fitted to his clothes, shining in hidden runes. Something about his stature made her feel protected.

“Did you get those spider eyes at the market like Phil asked? Also stop standing there a storm’s on the way” Techno asked, whilst making his way aside her, wrapping your cold body underneath his cape, the heat of his body melting the snowflakes dancing around her fingers.

“Of course I also got some pumpkin pie on sale, it was only a couple emeralds for an entire stack!” She exclaimed with sparks of excitement in her tone, igniting a smile on the lips of the usually monotone man. Oblivious to the sign of the grim sun finding its way on the rim of his dark eyes as they fell on her. His cheeks grew rose, similar to those laid within the woven sticks of her basket alongside fresh spritely vegetables, peach tea in enclosed and intricate glass bottles, and her pouch of jade emeralds.

“Do any of us even like that?”

“This Ranboo guy I met while walking past L’Manburg mentioned it- good to be civil with the enemies'' She explained with a mischievous grin painted on her face.

“Men! You get the eyes?” Phil asked whilst ushering the duo inside the sitting room, the velvet armchairs set in a semicircle rounding the crackling fireplace teasing her eyes, before she placed the basket atop the smoker counter. The bullets of rain dented the fragile panes of glass between the planks of woods and pearl-white clay. A sense of comfort swam up to her heart as the sound of Phil gave updates on his newest farm. Meni’s attention spiked up when he teased a new workstation for her, the ideas of new gliders and machines circling her quizzical mind.

“I spoke to Dream today. He said he wants the plan to ensue in the near future. Are we all still on board?” Techno began, unconsciously glancing at Meni while concerning the safety of his found friends. This, she noticed, after she swung off her hat and shawl, hanging it on the spruce door which led to her coven, which was half a messy library and half alchemy cave with a vanity-bed stuffed in a corner. It was enough to call home.

“Of course, they’ll understand eventually. I hope” Phil began to ramble as his mind travelled elsewhere. Both of them could see his eyes darting laps as Techno stood up abruptly, raised from his chair, grabbing a drink before stepping outside in one swift movement catching her attention immediately.
“Techno?” Meni asked, curiosity and concern rising in her voice's tone.

“I have to go write to Kristin, maybe you should be the one to talk to him. Take my jacket also” Phil told her before he jumped from the small ledge behind the open balcony doors, picking up his pace to avoid the rain before entering his abode, using his signature raven wings as a shield.

Taking a breath beforehand, she pulled on Phil’s cloak, grabbed a drink for herself, and stepped outside the back door which led to the small courtyard facing the stars, and where Techno slunk off too. Her gloved hands creaked open the dripping door, seeing Techno sat on the sheltered side of the swinging bench that slightly hung over the field of honeysuckle flowers. His champagne hair covered the time-old scars scattered across his face, noticeably avoiding eye contact.

“Tech? You alright- you kind of disappeared back there” YChoked by its own overgrown branches and bushes of sweet pea petals, the forest resembled a sprawling netherian fortress, barricading the earth from the arctic warmth of the sun and silver of the sky. “Tech? You alright you kind of disappeared back there” She asked, hesitantly sitting aside him, before noticing the rain seeping through the basic roof-material. He didn't seem to care- his thoughts were elsewhere.

“Fine, just thinking”

“About?”

“I don’t think I want to say” The response was sharp and short, a tone rarely heard by him in front of her. His eyes were distant, tracing the outline of the spruce fence dug around them, the crows flying in synchronised patterns above them. Like for this moment between the pair, everything went still in anticipation.

“Are you sure you don’t want to come back inside? I can heat up some cake”-

“I like the rain. You don’t have to stay out here with me, I don’t want you catching a cold because of me”

“Well I don’t want you stuck in the rain alone- here” She continued before unravelling the oversized shawl, and huddled next to him, making sure they both were safe from the rain. After what felt like a peaceful eternity, the tension disappeared as fast as it came.

“Meni?”

“Yeah?” Her voice was distant, her mind shutting down as the night grew darker and the moon stayed above their touching heads, her eyes closing. She didn’t want to fall asleep, she wanted to stay out here with him. Yet the sleepy and dragging feeling of sleep deprivation ran away when her stone cold face melted at the touch of his bandaged fingertips. Tucking the loose strands of now wet hair from her eyes.

“Meni” He whispered, his voice gone as soft as sugar. The shine in his iris glinted as he matched hers.

“Techno?”

The silence was loud. No words being said, and none needed too. It was awkward, and perfect. Neither of the introverted soldiers wished to be the first to say it. Words too precious on unspoken time.

So he took the leap.

He kissed the girl.
