Work Text:
A quiet Inn, tucked away in the woods. Away from the hustle and bustle of the city. It was small, cosy and a great place to lay low for a few days.
So when Connell was on the run, his heart pounding, ears thrumming, he knew exactly where to go. The Inn no one decided to look twice at.
He slammed the door open, seeing the redheaded girl that ran the Inn giving him a look as if to say 'you again, what crime did you commit now?'
"I can't tell you what I did if you're going to ask. I can go if you need me to." Connell grumbles, sitting up at the counter. "If not, some mead. I'm parched from all that running."
The barmaid shakes her head and goes to get Connell his mead. You could tell that she was used to things like this happening on a daily basis. The tavern was only really known to the assassins, mercenaries and some of the best thieves in the city.
"I've never actually learnt your name." The barmaid says, laying down Connell's drink on the counter. "Or is that information classified?"
"Unfortunately, I can't tell you." Connell says, taking a sip of the mead. He sat for a few moments, savouring the flavour before adding on " maybe I'll tell you one day."
"Fine then, I guess you can be all mysterious like that." The barmaid says, tying back her long red hair. For a second, Connell is convinced that her eyes flashed red before returning to their hazel colour. There was a possibility that he was in a room with someone like him. A demon. The beings of darkness and loathing. The beings that could destroy the planet of Elia one day. "You can call me Rose."
"Well Rose, I'll be taking a room for the night." Connell says, taking another sip of his mead.
"Brilliant." Rose says, fucking behind the counter to find the room keys. "There's only one other person staying here now. They're out right now but they may seem a bit sociable if you see them later."
"Ok, thanks for the warning." Connell says, finishing off his mead and leaving five golden pieces on the table. "What room could I get with this?"
"Oh, that's a lot!" Rose says, her eyes widening at the gold pieces. "Well, that'll cover your mead and a room for about two weeks."
"Great, I'll be lying low for a while." Connell says, as he gets out of his chair, letting out a quiet grunt.
"Right, I'll show you to your room."

Connell had quickly unpacked his bags and quickly slipped out of his room, hoping to go unnoticed. Unfortunately for him, the other guest staying in the Inn seemed to want to change those plans.
"Hi! I'm Maven, what's your name?" The ginger haired stranger asked. "Plus, I must say that your hair looks very cool!"
Connell didn't like his hair. It was the one thing that could lead people to his demon heritage. It was too difficult to dye away and using his magic to hide cost too much of his energy, even for a demon as powerful as him.
"Thanks." Connell mumbled, deciding to be at least a little polite as he shoved past the ginger boy that was blocking the door. From the brief touch of their hands, Connell was able to tell that the boy was young (early twenties), hyperactive and a mortal human with no powers. An easy target. Easy to kill or at least knockout if he got in the way. A quick blow to the head would leave him knocked out and out of the way. He wouldn't get hurt any more.
"Well, see you later Neighbor!" Maven shouted just as Connell slammed the door. Damn, did Connell find him annoying.
