It was a normal evening in the Gryffindor's Common Room. Hermione sat next to the fireplace. The warmth was pleasant and the light of the fire threw shadows on the wall. Everybody relaxed, enjoyed their evening. As a few days earlier Hermione realized Harry and Ron haven't been on the train, in a fit of providence she bought sweets for them, so they could enjoy them later if they would make it on another way. She knew how annoying Ron would be if he doesn't have any chocolate frogs or Bertie Bott's jelly beans, so she can now sit by the fireplace, reading one of her beloved books about transfiguration and enjoy the silence.
She was looking upon her book as out of the sudden she heard Ron shouting "Wingardium Leviosa!". He tried to levitate a chocolate frog which was about to escape. Really poor choice of spell, Hermione thought; she knew at least ten ways to catch the frog much easier but poor Ron didn't. She was torn out of thoughts by a flash of light, bright enough that it caught the attention of everyone in the room. Accompanied by the flash of light, there was a loud bang.
Hermione understood immediately: Ron's wand, still broken but poorly fixed, had changed the direction of his spell. And she warned him not to use it, but this dork wouldn't listen. She shook her head as Ron started to levitate himself; completely out of control. At first, he was only a few inches above the ground, but his heights increased every second and soon he was stuck at the ceiling like a balloon. The wand, shattered, was spread on the ground.
Seamus stood in the back, laughing, and happy that this time it wasn't him causing an explosion. He kicked the splitters in the fire as he mentioned: "Poor Weasley, only once you should get off your butt and do things by yourself.". Hermione screamed at him "You idiot, what are you doing with the wand?!". Ron started to be tossed around, from one corner to another as the splitters rustled in the fire. "It's out of control!", Harry shouts to Hermione, "Do something!". Hermione grabbed her wand and aimed for Ron, but he was moving too fast, and suddenly he burst out of the window.
The whole crowd ran out of the room, running down the stairs outside accompanied by the paintings worried gestures and questions. Oliver Wood was the first arriving with two broomsticks, throwing one at Harry while yelling "Hurry!". The two of them followed Ron's shadow to the forbidden forest where they found him entangled in a tree. "Get me out of here!", Ron begged. Oliver was laughing, and also Harry couldn't hide a grin.
