What Katniss felt very few people understood about the healing process was how rocky it was. How painful.
An added complication was Peeta. His demons mostly centered on her. When things were good between them they were amazing, but sometimes she wondered if he was going to think that this was worth it. That she was worth it.
One morning after a particularly nasty incident, Peeta escaped to the kitchen. He returned with baked goods.
“Sorry.”
Katniss laughed. “Maybe they were right. Maybe you really haven’t changed.”
With that she earned a smile. That was enough for her for now.
