This is my first story here. thoughts and/or suggestions are appreciated. Also English isn't me first language so sorry for any errors.

Pan was born into a family of war, an only child after all the failure of twins and triplets having to get killed for being a curse, his father, sapphire, is the general, and his mother, jewel, a carrier of the power of war, carriers can never birth more than one child at a time or they will have to kill them, sadly that's what Jewel has had to do until Pan was born. Most children born in his reign are raised normally in a safe space until the age of seven where they can decide to start training for battle or learn to master the power of healing.
Children are given the chance to choose two times in their lives, once when they are seven, and again when they are 13, two years before they can battle. This has caused the family to have many children helping heal and many children to risk their lives to win this war. Children are as young as 15 when they can fight in the battle, the oldest living person who fought in the war on their side was 47. She was Sapphire's sister, ruby, the rightful owner of the general but killed during the battle. She was remembered as one of the greats, killing two of the other four families before being killed by another general.
Oli was also born into a family of war, his father, Po, the general, and his mother, Darla, a carrier. Children born during the battle are usually trained to kill, around the age of three to four they learn to wield a sword and fire arrows. How to dodge and move in tight spaces. This generation of children was bred to kill, win the war that's been going on for centuries. These children have no choice or war or safety, and most children die after the age of seven by other children in training. Kids are meant to kill each other during battle to move forward into the war. "The weak must not remain," a saying very well known in the family, weak children die before they can move on. The strongest kids move up until they are at the age for battle, 14.
Both families had taught the children to fight at a young age, causing them great advantages when it came to the battle. Five different families had started this war thirty years ago, now only two families remain. Many families were known for their different ways of winning. Pan's family was known for their healing before, during, and after a battle, while Oli's family was known for their gruesome and cruel ways to prepare their children for war.
Now, the power of war: a power that will make any two people fight each other to the death and, depending on who it is, can give the wielder other strange powers. Everyone's power of war is different, rare for sure but never the same power. Pan has it different from his mother, different from Oli's, and different from Oli's mother. Ruby had the power of war too, hers was from battle, whoever she fought will magically be on her side, and the next person she fights will be the person they are assigned to, killing each other even if they are on the same side.
When Oli was 1 he had learned his power works through objects, he could no longer hold things without gloves because he would cause people to battle each other because they had to touch things after him, including clothes they were wearing. His mothers worked with names. She would battle by asking for the names of her opponents, she would say their name than the name of another person and get them to fight to the death.
Pan had first found he had the power of war when he was two, controlling two soldiers against each other and killing one another while he floated above them with glowing golden-white eyes, after that situation he had worn gloves to keep from touching others. His mother's power worked through sight, she couldn't look anyone in the eye or they will work for her and kill anyone she looks at after. This caused her to wear a blindfold from the age of four.
