Reunion

Summary:

After more than 2 years apart... finally a reunion

A companion piece to A Memory to Hold

Work Text:

The flash of the lights were blinding as usual. The blend of voices from both reporters and fans made it difficult to focus on any one question. It didn’t really matter, they all asked the same questions, what project did I have next, how did it feel to be nominated for Best New Actor, was I dating anyone? At the last one, I just smiled, thinking simple thoughts so that I didn’t let my inner emotions show on my face. There are many times I put on a world class performance for the press. It would never do for them to know how much their questions affected me.

Two years, and six months... it had been two and a half years since I had felt the touch of my true love's kiss, since I had breathed in the scent of his skin. We knew our paths would deviate, but we naively believed it wouldn’t tear us apart so completely, ending up in two different countries, controlled by two different companies, pursuing two different career paths. New friends came into our lives. I had even taken another lover for a short time. But my heart remained his. He would always be the other half of my soul. But the wait would be over soon. I eagerly headed for the exit, knowing my bag was already packed and waiting in the car. I felt like a little kid waiting for Christmas morning.

......

He's not coming. He couldn't get away after all. The publicist for his new film found out and ordered him not to go... My mind spun with fears. We had spoken over the phone just this morning. He was adamant about leaving out straight from the premier. I wanted to go myself, but my flight was delayed, and it was probably for the best that we would have a private reunion.

Of course, we still had fans who shipped us, who had taken us as their special couple years ago. They would be thrilled to know we were going to see each other again, in person, not just another live, but in flesh and blood. Those long term fans had supported us in every turn our lives took, whether we were together or not. They knew that what we shared was special beyond explanation.

I worried that it wouldn't be the same. He was still the most handsome man I had ever seen, but I feared I had changed too much. The stress of the past two years had taken a toll. I was thinner than he liked, my chubby cheeks gone with age and exercise, but I hoped he would still find me beautiful.

I unpacked my bag, remembering the night over 2 years ago, our last night together, a precious memory that I had carried in my heart all this time.

The sound of the door unlocking brought me quickly back to the present and I turned to see him enter. Tall and golden, he was every inch a movie star. His smile was blinding, and I ran to him crying, sobbing as he scooped me up into his arms. This, this was what my soul needed. Never again would we be apart for so long.
