The team looked up and smiled as they saw Tanaka and Noya returning with Hinata and Kageyama.

“We’re back!” Noya announced heading towards the kitchen.

“You nerds had better no have started without us!” Tanaka said following his short friend.

“Thanks for inviting us over Captain!” Hinata said taking his jacket off and placing it on the coat rack with the others.

“Yea thanks.” Kageyama said quietly following Hinata’s actions and heading over to the table where the team sat.

“It’s no problem guys! And we haven’t started eating yet I was trying to wait for my dad so he could meet all of you but we might just start without him.” Daichi said glancing at the clock.

“Oh your dad? I think we saw him at the train station!” Hinata said sitting down next to Yamaguchi.

“Huh?” Daichi replied confused.

“Yeah tall guy, really broad, looks just like you?” Kageyama asked picking at his napkin, Daichi nodded and he continued,”Yea we saw him. He was getting on the train to the airport. Had bags with him and everything.” The setter said. Daichi furrowed his brow and then his eyes went wide.

“Please, please, please.” The team heard him mutter as he briskly walked towards the pantry and taking out an old baby food container. He frantically searched through some empty envelops before suddenly slamming the container back down.

“Hey Cap, everything okay?” Tanaka asked as Daichi walked angrily back to the table and took out his phone and slammed it on the table in front of Suga.

“20 minutes. It takes 10 to get to the airport then I’ll give him 10 minutes for grace. Call him after 10 minutes.” Daichi said angrily. After that he walked up the stairs muttering about checking on his siblings.

“Sugawara, what was that?” Ukai asked confused as Suga sighed before answering.

“This isn’t the first time Daichi’s dad had pulled something like this on him, but it is the first time that he got his siblings involved.” Suga said looking to Asahi who looked a bit angry as he stared at the phone.

“What was in the container?” Takeda asked looking back into the kitchen.

“All the money that Daichi had saved for his siblings and their needs. No one’s here so Daichi does everything and gets help from neighbors sometimes.” Suga replied watching Daichi’s phone.

“You mean his dad would just steal all of their money like that and leave?” Takeda asked.

“With all due respect teach, he’s a scumbag, it’s what they do.” Asahi said flatly as he peered over at Daichi’s phone,”It’s been 10 minutes, start calling.”

By the time Daichi came downstairs there was 5 minutes left on the time limit he had given Suga. He watched his best friend try over and over again to reach his dad but finally the phone stopped ringing and immediately said disconnected. Suga looked back at Daichi concerned and saw that he was furious.

“Daichi?” He asked before the captain pushed himself off the wall and grabbed a bat that was leaning against the couch. He ignored the cries of his teammates and coaches as he burst out the front door and straight to their old garage.

Inside was an old American 67 Chevy Impala, it belonged to his mother and father, their first car. Daichi was made in that car, brought home from the hospital in it, hell he was raised in it. As time went on his mom died and his dad went off the deep in. The car failed eventually and it was cheaper for Daichi to bury a new used one then fix it. So it stayed in the garage and every time his dad would visit he would promise they would fix it up together. But this time was different, this time he promised his innocent little siblings that he was there to stay and that they would fix the car together.

He lied Daichi thought as he took his first swing at the car. He lied to Daisuke *hit* he lied to Daitan *hit* He lied to Den! Daichi swing hard on his last hit and paused before continuing. HE LIED TO ME! Daichi thought smashing the car’s wind shield. When had he started crying?

“You promised me, promised them, that you would keep us safe and then you left us!” He grunted as he continued to swing at the car and cry.

“Mom was dead and you were a shell!”

“I have to be more than a brother, I have to be a father and a mother, to keep them safe!” He yelled as he hit the car.

“AND THATS NOT FAIR!” He said taking one final hard swing before dropping the bat and dropping his head in hands crying.

“And I can’t do it.” He whimpered crying silently into his hands. He doesn’t know when Coach Ukai showed up he just knew that he did. He wrapped his arms around the distraught teenager who gladly accepted the comfort.

“Shh shh it’s okay you’re gonna be okay.” Ukai said hugging the teen tightly while looking at the car that had just been attacked. It was heartbreaking to see someone so solid and unmovable break down. He’s just a boy, barely 18 Ukai thought whispering calming words. As he looked up he could see Takeda looking back at him with a concerned expression, he assumed he sent all the others home with to-go plates. Don’t worry Daichi me and Specs will take care of you Ukai thought as he looked over at his boyfriend again with a determined look. When it was returned by the shorter man he smiled a bit a pulled Daichi closer.
