Try to Enjoy Yourself

Summary:

Even on their special day, Daddy Dearest can't help but worry about his daughter's well being.

Mommy Mearest steps in to help him out.

Notes:

Holy hell! I am shocked at the utter lack of Mearest×Dearest shippings.

Welp, I guess I'll try to step in and fix that...

Work Text:

He just couldn't think straight. His concentration was once again taken right off the task at hand.

All the bottled up hatred and envy he felt was like a never ending torrent. Threatening to burst at any second.

You see, Daddy Dearest took pride in his overprotective nature, and his daughter adored that about him. To her, he was her number 1, her guardian, her rock.

His fatherly instinct would always kick in whenever someone so much as looked at his baby girl. But ever since she turned 19, her independence took over just like that.
Now, she almost never came home. Only stopping by to either grab a forgotten item, or to return extremely late at night.

Dearest knew he was gonna have to accept it at some point, but he was never actually ready to face this reality.

Now, she's in the hands of that blue haired twerp.

As you already know, he despised the boy she chose to be with. He just looked so..... unworthy of her. Boyfriend wasn't by all means tall, or built, quite the opposite. His demeanor screamed "underdog," but his skill and passion for music exceeded the ex-rockstar's by a good margin.

And yet, despite all that, the demon still saw himself in the boy. He saw the same person he used to be when he was 19. Troublemaker, punkish, with a beautiful girlfriend by his side.

If only she never returned those "lovey-dovey" feelings back at him. The demon would make sure she never saw his scrawny face ever again.

"Honey"

He would take her far away from this deadbeat side of town, away from anyone that could hurt his only treasure, or even worse.

"Honey!"

Perhaps afterwards, he could hire another hitman to take care of business if that boy ever thought about coming back for a round....

"Honey!"

Dearest snapped out of his trance as he looked across from the table. His wife stared blankly at the ex rockstar.

"You're staring off in the distance again," Mommy Mearest snickered.

He groaned, looking down at his half eaten steak.
How foolish. He knew today was supposed to be their anniversary. They planned this event for months. Of course, they could always afford to eat at expensive diners since they were basically celebrities, but today in particular was special. It was his day to finally cut loose and spend some time with the woman he loved, and yet other matters still occupied his mind.

"Yes, I know dear," he replied reaching for his fork. Mearest still glared at him with concern. He never picks at his meal like that, even on the most stressful of days.

"Is it about Gf?" She asked tilting her head. "You know you don't have to worry. She safely arrived at Bf's place."

The rapper's name still agitated his ears. Even after weeks into their relationship.

"And thats the problem!" He beamed, stabbing his fork through the meat. "Im telling you starlight, that little runt is nothing but trouble. He's always putting our baby girl in situations that could get her killed, or worse! I wasn't even aware of that lemon creep until she came back home to tell me about it."

Mearest stayed silent. Smiling at her lover as he rambled on. He was always strangely cute under stress.

"How can you be so laid back about this?" He slumped back in his seat folding his arms. "I just... want what's best for her. You of all people should know!"

Her response wasn't what he expected. He looked back up to see her softly giggling to herself. Cupping her hand over her mouth.

"Ey, what's so funny?"

The motherly popstar took a few seconds to get herself back together.

"N-nothing, it's just.... you were really no different than him," She said. "I would've thought you'd be a little more proud than mad."

He almost wanted to vomit. She was right in the fact that he and boyfriend paralleled each other quite well. However, he deeply despised the idea of being even remotely comparable to him in terms of stature.

"You're kidding me right? Proud of that sleezeball?" He seethed. But Mearest still didn't buy the attitude.

"Pudding, he acts just like you. Not many humans pull it off well. You were always taken as the more adventurous and daring type."

"...."

"Maybe that's why Gf chose him," She said. "Because Bf reminded her so much of you."

Daddy Dearest wanted to protest, but somehow, he couldn't. Deep down, she had a point. Adventurous and daring did run in the family, and Bf had all of those characteristics. He sighed in defeat, holding his nose in annoyance.
The mother got up from her seat and walked over to plant herself in his lap.
The sudden weight caused him to jump a little, and now he was looking her directly in the eyes. The shining red in her pupils were always warm and loving to him.

"You're a great father," She softly stated, rubbing his back. "But sometimes, you just gotta let her do her own thing. Plus, it is our anniversary."

She tilted his head up, catching his lips in a soft kiss. "And you're treating me tonight~"

She was right. He needed to take his mind off the couple. Even if he didn't really approve of their relationship, he still wanted to be supportive of Gf.
He still heard his daughter's words in the back of his mind that always warmed his stone cold heart.

"You're the greatest daddy ever."

"I love you so much"

"You'll always be my number 1," She would say.
The voices in a way calmed him.

Dearest pulled his wife in closer for another kiss. This time with much more passion. Her jewelry clattered as she wrapped her arms over his shoulders. He felt her bury her dark painted nails in his scalp, which sent shivers down his spine.

They were for sure getting looks from other people in the diner. Some parents having to shield their kid's eyes from the sight. But they didn't care in the slightest.

Mearest broke the kiss, much to his disliking. Once again looking her lover in the eyes.

"This place bores me," She mumbled. "Wanna take this date back outside?"

Dearest tried his best to hide a chuckle, but failed miserably. "You really know how to make a man forget his troubles, succubus."

She didn't say anything else. Just smiled, and gently pecked his temple.

"Alright fine," He picked her up bridal style and carried her out the door. Neither of them concerned with the fact that they forgot to pay for their food.
=======================================

Still with his demon wife in arms he led her down the smooth concrete sidewalk. The city was beautiful at this time of night.
Lit bars and restaurants as far as the eye could see. They thanked themselves for not having to put up with the paparazzi, as that crowd was understanding that this was their day.

"I did have somewhere I wanted to take you," Dearest mentioned. "It ain't much, but I thought it'd be special for this one occasion..."

"Honey, anywhere with you is special to me," Mearest replied hugging him tighter.

They arrived at an old abandoned building on the outskirts of town. Dearest put his wife down as he shuffled for a nearby lightswitch.

Finally coming across the lever, he flipped it up as the lights struggled to power on.

Mearest gasped, immediately recognizing the place after getting a good look around.

"Oh my," She uttered. "Isn't this..."

"Yep, the very first karaoke bar where I met you." He took a seat at the end of the stage, gazing around at the rusty tables and infested walls. "Seems like this place has seen better days."

Mearest walked over and sat next to him. He wrapped his arm around her as she leaned her head on his shoulders. "Maybe, but nothing a good carpenter couldn't fix."

He chuckled. Always the optimist she was. Gf definitely got that from her.

They sat in silence for a few more seconds. Dearest desperately wanting to break the akward atmosphere, but not really knowing what to say next.

...

"Sing for me," He heard her say.

"Huh?"

"You heard me. I said sing for me," She repeated.

Dearest was a little dumbfounded. He had so many songs written in his head but didn't know which one she actually wanted.

"It doesn't matter what, I just want this moment to be special. You took me out to dinner, then led me to our once favorite spot to sing together. Singing just to me would be icing on the cake. Please?"

He sighed. "Alright, I got something you'd like. I'm rusty so don't laugh if I mess up."

"I wont."

Taking a deep breath he began his "lullaby."

Mearest couldn't help but smile as she heard him sing the lyrics one of her favorites: "bopeepo."

To the popstar, he wasn't rusty at all. In fact, his older voice made him sound even better than before. She could feel herself getting flashbacks of the very first time they met. In this very bar, she watched as he performed on stage. His goofy outdated hairstyle, elongated mustache, and sparking white vest made him all the more unique.
But what she fell in love with the most, was his voice. An odd mix of tenor and alto that could easily synchronize with any tune that ever existed.

Mearest just couldn't get enough of it. All throughout her adult life did she want him to just have a private session with her. But he was too busy for it. They both were.

But not tonight.

Tonight was all about them, and it was an experience that they will never forget.

Daddy Dearest ended his song, coughing a little in the process.
"Sorry," he apologized in between hacks. "I can't hit those high notes like I used to."

She could care less about that.

"You were amazing sweetie. It's just like how I remembered all those years ago."

"I thought you'd like it." He brought her in closer, kissing her forehead.

"See, already few hours in and you aren't busy worrying about our daughter," Mearest teased playfully punching his arm.

He rolled his eyes. "Yes yes, I know I can get carried away."

"She's gonna be alright. Even if you're not here to take care of her, she would be proud that you're letting her off on her own."

Dearest still wasn't too fond of that idea. But he was content in knowing Gf atleast had someone to protect her if things really did go south. He was, in a way counting on Bf to be that "someone," even if he didn't nessisarily like him.

Knowing this cleared his head a little, and he could actually focus on having some genuine fun with his demon wife.

"So.... you wanna call it a night and head back to the mansion?" Mearest asked stepping off stage.

Dearest immediately shook his head. "Hell no, it's our godamned aniversary. We're gonna have ourselves a good ass time for as long as this night lasts!"

The popstar smiled, hopping back in her husband's arms. "There's my rockstar," she gleamed kissing his cheek.

"Heh," He for once smiled as he led her out the door, back onto the streets of the city.

"Love ya hun," He told her.

She squeezed his neck as she wispered in his ear.

"Love you too muffin."
