The Avengers stood beside one another fighting off their newest enemies. New York ran in fright from the battle taking place.
Natasha took a moment to look at the chaos surrounding her, as she tried to catch her breath. She saw Thor wielding his hammer left and right, Hulk leaping from building to building, Clint's bows flying all around her, and even Wanda and Pietro's red and blue hazes floating through New York City's night sky.
She suddenly felt the whoosh of Steve's shield zoom past her from behind and turned in time to see it take out one of the enemy soldiers aiming for her.
She shifts back in Steve's direction, "I had that completely under control, Rogers."
He walks toward her while she picks up his shield, "The words you might be looking for are thank you Steve, I don't know what I would do without you."
Before she can respond they're fighting again, she throws her shield through the bodies of a few soldiers then Steve catches it and uses it to block open fire.
"I can kick your ass, you know that right," she says breathlessly through a lighthearted laugh.
He rises from his crouched position and smirks at her "Yes ma'am."
She smiles and they go about their routine as partners fighting off anyone that comes in their direction.
When the chaos seems to calm down, they all meet back together, and ready themselves to go home. Steve walks to Natasha and puts his arm around her. She wraps her own around his back as they walk toward the Stark helicopter.
"It wasn't a joke you know," he looks at her, "you can kick my ass anytime you want."
She laughs and smacks him on his stomach before they hop into the aircraft on their way home.
