Chapter Text
Tommy was never told where he came from, that was a given, he was always told that he just popped out of the sky and Philza was the unlucky soul to be cursed with him to raise. Tommy sighed playing with the wood of his makeshift desk, he sat at the piece of wood sprawled out, using his arm as a cushion as his free hand played with a freed splinter. Dream was coming soon, he knew that and he resented the idea of him blowing his things up once more then in the same breath have the audacity to call himself the blonde's friend.
He sneered offended, although nobody but him and tnret were there to see it. Tommy sighed dramatically before dropping his head in his arms completely, letting his other arm come around to wrap securely around his head. And there it was as if right on schedule Dream showed up, the familiar sound of his trident spinning him in made Tommy's feathered wings twitch in anticipation yet he didn't move. "Tommy?" Dream called out innocently, Tommy made a vague movement to lift his head but only raised it so he could peer over the paleness of his arm.
Dream walked over to his tent, the sound of netherite boots clanking against dirt made Tommy twitch nervously, yet, he still didn't move. "There you are Tommy! I was wondering where you went, if I had not known better I would've thought you've left your exile," Dream chuckled to himself. Tommy just watched as the older man laughed at himself. "Pitiful" Tommy thinks silently, eyeing the man.
"Well aren't you gonna stand up? Fly around like usual?" Dream asked, gesturing out to the open clear sky. Tommy's eyes lowered from Dream's mask to the ground. "Are you sick? What's wrong with you?" Dream asked, through gritted teeth. Dream was one to get irritated rather quickly, Tommy learned that faster than anyone else and that's a fact.
Abruptly, Tommy stood, startling Dream out of his irritation. The teen didn't even utter a word as he walked out of his tent, first time in days since he got there. The sun spraying directly in his eyes made him flinch away, shielding his eyes with his arm. Shortly after Dream came up behind Tommy placing a hand on his shoulder, Tommy jumped. "What the hell," Dream raised his eyebrows, "That's the first thing you say to me? Even if I was here for a few minutes, not even a hello?" Tommy crossed his arms, "Just make the damn hole so you can blow my shit up and get the fuck out of here."
Dream grabbed the younger by the collar of his red and white shirt pulling him to his height. "Don't ever speak to me that way Tommyinnit, I will make your life a living hell," Tommy just smirked, he barked a laugh, "You seriously think I'm dumb enough to believe you want to be my friend after saying some fucked up shit like that!? HA! How many times do you plan on showing your ass around me Dreamie? " Tommy smirked using a nickname he heard George call him a while back.
Dream gritted his teeth grinding them together, pushing Tommy back where he should've stumbled, but thanks to his wings he caught himself and hovered over the spot he was standing in prior. Tommy's wings ached, he hadn't stretched them out in days and not to mention he hadn't flown out anywhere anyway. Dream dug a hole a few blocks deep as per usual, climbing out of it and instructing Tommy to drop any items in.
Tommy, being the little shit he is, dropped his useful things in the hole, keeping the wad of iron he mined a while ago, like before exile a while ago. As usual Dream dropped a pile of TNT down the hole, lighting it, the two stepped away. Well Tommy flew up a bit away. Dream sneered, looking up at Tommy. "Well..? What else is there to do? You've already foiled your own damn plan so what is it you want from me?" Tommy asked, landing in front of Dream. Dream huffed crossing his arms, "Tommy I'm not trying to be the bad guy, I'm doing this so you learn your lesson." Tommy mocked Dream crossing his arms as well, making eye contact, well...eye to mask.
Tommy shriveled up his nose in irritation, "Do you ever take off that annoying ass mask?" Tommy asked as Dream dropped his arms, Tommy followed the motion. Dream slightly shook his head wondering off to unexplored areas of "Tommy's island" of which you guessed it, he hates. Tommy just watched Dream walk around oak trees and a pathway Tommy quit making halfway to the portal to his tnret.
"Why didn't you finish this path?" Dream asked, breaking the silence. Tommy shook his head as Dream turned to face him. "I was 'spose to but I was tired the day that i was supposed to finish it so I didn't and stayed in bed." Tommy explained.
Dream hummed, nodding in acknowledgement. Tommy crossed his arms clearly offended, his wings fluttered lazily. "What the hell is with you today? Your mood swings are worse than Tubbo's," Dream tilts his head back eyeing Tommy from the portal, yet he didn't say anything. Tommy shivered in discomfort, shifting his weight from foot to foot. Dream opened his mouth, well from how the mask moved slightly you can guess he opened his mouth, "You're quite lazy Tommy," Dream smiled under his mask, his tone clearly teasing but Tommy knew better than to think Dream was kidding- his mental state hasn't been demolished yet, and he's not stupid.
"And your quite stupid for some sort of master mind, you may have everyone else fooled, Dream, but not me." Tommy begin, taking a step toward Dream, "I know the only reason why you haven't killed me yet in this damn exile is because you need me, you need me as bait, Dream" Tommy was now standing in front of Dream, his arms crossed, "Now I may not know what you need me as bait for, or what kind of fucked up shit you have- or what you think you have planned for me in the future, but I know I'm just a pawn in your chess game in that absolutely fucked up head of yours you green bastard."
Dream just frowned, "That's not a nice thing to say to the only person that visits you in your exile," Dream scowled, "Then don't even bother visiting, I won't get tools or go mining so you don't even have to bother coming back to this shit show," Tommy turned away from Dream. Dream's hands twitched and he wanted to strangle Tommy, that was also a given. Tommy just smirked, knowing he had backed the so called mastermind that is his manipulator into a fucking corner, he had saw straight through Dream since the beginning, but the thing is if that would help him or hurt him in the long run?
That night Tommy laid in his cot, in tnret he laid motionless on his back, his gaze was glazed over replaying the events that happened today. He wondered if Dream would return tomorrow with a different attitude, be apologetic and try and help him with the things he needed or if he'd be the polar opposite, turning to aggression and see to no end of beating the shit out of him for making the Dream, owner of the Dream SMP look like a fucking idiot, even if nobody was there to see it in action exactly.
He wondered if Dream was laying awake somewhere in some dirt shack or a cave or some shit thinking of how he should act, or take him up on his offer of never visiting again. Of course he's never gonna buy the fact that Tommy would go out of his way to completely discard what he said to Dream just for show. Eventually Tommy rolled out of bed onto the wooden floor of his tent, slowly he stood. Tommy pulled his sword out of his enderchest walking a bit in the middle of the night, he admired how the moon reflected beautifully on to the ocean that led him to his home he was banished from. Sighing disappointed Tommy left his exile, trudging through random forests where he found a village.
Tommy silently made his way through the village in order to not wake anyone up. He stared at the iron golem making its way through the village slowly, on guard. Without this golem Tommy wondered if this would be an abandoned village or just absolutely swarmed with a mix of zombies and zombified villagers and other mobs that would slowly but surely make their way to Tommy’s camp not too far from here. He couldn’t help but wonder if Dream would make him stay there if the area was too overcrowded with mobs, or if he would clear them out. Tommy sneered, he didn’t like how much he caught himself thinking about Dream like some hopeless school girl in love.
Suddenly Tommy remembered a portal a bit further from the village he was currently at, he found with Ranboo a while before exile. Tommy walked through the forest, not knowing exactly where he was going, he didn’t write down the coords of the whereabouts of the portal. Tommy flinched, caught up in his own thoughts he barely registered the portal he found abruptly, surrounded by netherrack and bits of lava. Tommy was for once grateful to Ranboo for being so damn resourceful. Tommy shuffled around in his pockets for some flint and steel he knew he had left over. He lit the portal stepping through almost immediately. The first thing that caught his attention was just how far and unnoticeable the portal was from the others and L’manburg portal pod, the second thing was a chest with a note on it. ‘Ranboo’ it read.
Tommy plucked the note off the chest and opened it, there sat a book. Tommy tilted his head as if he were a confused puppy, lifting a brow Tommy opened the book, “This must be from Ranboo,” Tommy thought silently flipping through the pages before flicking back to the first page which read, “Eyyy how are you doing big man? I hope you’re doing okay, holding yourself together during these rough times. Wanna hear a joke? Who’s green and lives under a bridge? That’s right Dream! Anyway I will visit you soon, things are calming down over here and I hope to see you back in L’manburg soon when Dream is done throwing his tantrum, -From Ranboo.” Tommy chuckled at the poor attempt at a joke, poking fun at Dream, he smiled at Ranboo’s wish to see Tommy in L’manburg. He flipped to a clear page picking up the quill that was left by the book, writing back, “Ey Ranboo, Thanks for writing me, I do hope to see you soon Dream’s been driving me insane some new company such as yourself would serve some value to me, -Your Friend Tommyinnit aka Big Man.” Tommy winced, he called himself a friend of Ranboo’s, but it didn’t bother him as much as he originally thought it would, instead it brought warmth, this fuzzy feeling bubbling in the pits of his stomach, he had someone to call his friend and would never think about betraying him, unlike Tubbo and the rest. Ranboo actually made an effort to stand up for him, even taking the blame, Tommy smiled at the sweet gesture.
He stood after returning the book back into the chest. “I should be getting back now. It's probably early morning by now.” Tommy muttered to himself, turning back to the portal. Time runs 5 times faster in the nether so once you're back in the overworld, a minute in the nether is 5 in the overworld.
Tommy held his head down, his wings fluttered. He forgot he had those, if he's being honest. He had been walking for a while and his wings hadn't gotten stretched out properly in a long time so he decided to fly his way back. Tommy spread his wings getting the gentle early morning breeze through his feathered wings lifting him off the ground as he aimed higher. Tommy was about tree level, flying over his camp he landed swiftly in front of tnret.
He opened the thin sheet, slung lazily over his tent as protection and serves as a door. He looked over to his unmade cot, covered in white sheets and a singular pillow sat crooked at the head of the cot, his sheets tossed around carelessly, Tommy felt his eyes get heavy. He tucked his wings back, curling them in on each other before collapsing face first into his hard cot. He didn't mind though, he was asleep.
"Tommy?" Dream called out, he listened for any sort of movement, "Did he leave?" Dream thought panicked, "No no of course he would never leave...maybe he's just in tnret sitting at that piece of wood again," Dream decided, his netherite boots clanked heavily against the dirt floor once more as he walked with purpose.
Dream flung open the sheets of the tent, tearing them off leaving them behind him in the yard, his masked eyes lay upon Tommy tangled in his sheets, sleeping wildly drooling without a care in the world, his eyes were screwed shut, blocking out the sudden brightness. Dream lowered his arms. Tommy sat up, a clearly irritated expression on his face as he sat up, "What the fuck is wrong with you?" Tommy asked, his voice still deep with sleep yet his tone showed irritation and anger. Dream screwed his face up in a matching expression, even though nobody could see it.
"What the hell is wrong with me!? What's wrong with you! Could you not hear me calling you!? I thought you left!" Dream yelled, tossing his hands to the yards. Tommy scrunched up his nose, his eyebrows knitted together, "If I did leave you would have no way of tracking me," Tommy muttered crossing his arms across his chest. Dream blew off, walking away to one of Tommy's new builds.
In a calmer tone Dream asked "What's this?" Tommy, now out of his tent, still a little snappy answered calmly, "Logstedshire" he begain walking closely behind Dream, he had built an underground bunker full of items directly underneath Logstedshire, in the week that Dream hadn't bothered him, Tommy used it and charished it.
"Logstedshire? Looks nice, oh you've got little rooms and a tent here," Dream pointed out looking in each one. Tommy stayed not too far behind. "So...is this what you've been doing in the week I didn't visit?" Tommy nodded, his eyes drifting from the ground to the walls of his horrible build to the sky, really anywhere but Dream. "If I don't visit will you build more? You could probably turn this into a town with a population of one!" Dream chuckled.
Tommy just mocked what assuming smile he was wearing behind that stupid mask. Tommy's fake smile dropped immediately after mocking Dream, the blonde clicked his tounge in irritation. "Why are you here Dream, actually?" Dream glanced over to Tommy and for once since his visit today Tommy was looking straight at him, his undivided attention and all. "Well I'm your friend, even if we have fights, I'm still gonna visit you so your not lonely."
Tommy gritted his teeth "What a load of bullshit, if we were friends Dream I would still be in L'manburg, If we were friends you never would've suggested Tubbo exile me for something stupid and harmless as burning down your ex boyfriend's house! Why am I the one exiled!? People on the server greefed my house, why aren't they exiled!? Is it because- because I don't matter? I don't matter as much as George!?" Tommy asked, he grabbed at his shirt, tearing at the already made holes in it.
His heart hurt, the feeling of happiness he once had hours ago gone, now replaced with sadness and hurt, he knew this would happen eventually. Dream stood back, a shocked expression on his face. "Tommy I already told you, it's so you learn your lesson, you always start trouble so I exiled you," Tommy's head flicked up, his eyes red from holding in tears, "Then tell me what I did wrong and I won't do it again, please...just let me come home," Tommy's voice was strained and tired, his hands grasped at the base of his throat, dry from breathing heavily.
"I'm sorry Tommy it- it just doesn't work that way," And with that Dream left. Tommy crumpled down to the ground, holding and pulling at his shirt, the fabric felt suffocating. His hands traveled up to his face squeezing his cheeks, now stained with tears, little hiccups came with fresh tears. Tommy's heart burned, he wanted to go home and be with Tubbo and Ranboo, and Sam and Quackity. He missed them dearly. He wanted to feel safe and secure, but right now he's quite literally in the middle of nowhere, he wants out.
Tommy scowled, he hadn't expected Ranboo to visit that day, he was unprepared. His face was covered in dried tears and his shirt was torn even more that it already was. Ranboo smiled halfheartedly, pulling out a shirt for Tommy, "Here I brought you a new one," He held it out to Tommy who hesitantly took it. "Thanks.." his voice was still strained and weak, so his words came out faintly. Ranboo nodded turning away so Tommy could switch out his shirt.
"Thanks again, Ranboo," Ranboo smiled meekly, "I brought a jukebox and a few discs we could listen to," he said, holding up the discs. Tommy smiled faintly, he watched as Ranboo placed the jukebox in front of him and played a disc he had. The two sat in comfortable silence watching the sun start to lower itself past the sea, the reflection on the water was beautiful.
