Chapter Text
No, it was never Mingyu’s intention to move out of his house in the middle of July. Everyone’s starting a new life on January and December, why would he start a new one on July? Everyone’s just warming up on July. It’s a breezy season, almost too cold, even. He could only curse at himself, seeing everyone around him all bright and happy, all pink and yellow. He was blue, he was always blue. Sometimes it would be dark blue, a navy color. Sometimes it could also be yellow and orange, his usual cheery self.
Today is a particular dark blue one. A Prussian blue kind of color, the one you’d be most attracted to, but would ignore and/or be extremely cold to you. That’s today’s Mingyu. That’s Mingyu in July, trying to fit in to his surroundings, trying to adapt to his new environment. Seoul was a nice, big city, he agreed. But the whole commotion inside the town’s just not matching his vibe. He became quite grumpy these days because of it.
His neighbor’s a nerd with a cat. A computer science student, wearing a glasses, and has a fixed routine. Though, Mingyu has to admit, his neighbor does look good, sometimes. Whenever he’s in a fitted t-shirt and gray sweatpants, for instance. Crouching down every morning to feed his cat, opening his door and windows wide to let the air in. That habit of Mingyu’s neighbor got to him, making him mimic the whole habit.
It’s Wonwoo. His neighbor’s name’s Wonwoo. Mingyu doesn’t know if he’s staring at his neighbor’s cat, or if he’s just staring at his neighbor Wonwoo. It was not on purpose when Mingyu sat on his table just so he can lean back against his chair, looking across his room, so Wonwoo can wave at him with a small smile. Which made Mingyu blush for a solid five minutes, his face warm and flushed.
“What, a crush on your hot nerdy neighbor? That’s cliché, dude. You know that.” Mingyu could only sigh, listening to his friend Soonyoung on the phone. “I know, but it’s just a crush. I’ll just think of it as a summer fling, a motivation to stay here, perhaps.” Mingyu swore he could hear Soonyoung hold back a laughter across the line. ”Well, maybe your muse for writing as well. Anyways, I have to go. Jihoon’s calling, see you!”
Mingyu silently curses at Soonyoung, before covering his mouth with a hand, actually realizing that he’s been cursing a lot these days. He thought, where the hell did his happy-go-lucky, cheerful self went? It’s getting a lot more difficult without that side of himself.
Until he realizes. He had left that side of his back at his hometown. The only way to retrieve it is to bring back happiness into his life. But how?
