The (Very Short) Ballad of Princess Jo

Summary:

Jo, the present-day Maldonian princess and great-great-great granddaughter of Tianaveen and Imector has her own shadowman shenanigans.

(Very small story snippet, but I'm fond of Jo so into the archive she goes. Art by me, idea developed with the help of Ibrithir.)

Work Text:

[Image description: Jo is a teenage girl of Maldonian and Mexican decent who has thick black wavy hair and an eclectic outift consisting mainly of an oversized denim jacket, scarves tied around her hips, hot topic belts, and far too many hair clips.]

“You told Jo that the Spanish Gala is tonight right?”

“Yep.”

“And you told her it’s formal dress?”

“Yep.”

“So she’s probably going to be an hour late and wearing some horrible get up she pulled out of a thrift store?”

“Yep.”

Jo (Joana) is the great-granddaughter of Iria and Ruy, she is a hot mess that is blindingly cheerful and makes all her own outfits from interesting things she collects despite being Maldonian royalty.

She spends a lot of time with her primos Miguel and Marco and together the three of them wreak havoc, despite Marco constantly wanting to rip his own eyes out when he sees the outfits Jo insists “have heart.”

At some point Jo is pulled to the other side by the angry ghost of Dr. Facilier who kidnaps her little brother in an attempt to finally get revenge on her family in a delightful romp of an au created with @ibrithir-was-here

[Image description: Jo is dressed in the shadowman's clothes and wielding his tarot deck with a mischievous expression.]

This somewhat backfires since Jo gleefully “collects” everything cursed looking she can get her hands on, including spare wardrobe items. At the final confrontation she knocks the Shadowman completely off balance by showing up in his spare outfit and rolling a deck of his tarot down her sleeve with far too much flair for a “hero kid.”

(An Italian exchange student taught her the card trick last semester as well as how to make your chewing gum last twice as long. She tries to tell Facilier the gum trick but he’s not listening, which is his loss since it actually works some of the time!)
