Chapter 1: Welcome to Teyvat university!

Chapter Text

"Turn the music down, you can probably hear it all the way to the school!"

Kaeya reached out for the volume button and slowly pressed the button. The plus button. He turned up the music even more.

"Kaeya!" his brother growled at him.

"Now they'll now that we're coming, Diluc," Kaeya said with a smirk. Teasing his brother was fun, and also a great way to calm down his nerves. That he would never admit that he had.

They were driving on a road that seemed to go on forever in a small yet expensive car. The never ending road would supposedly lead to their new school, Teyvat collage. The biggest collage in the country with students from all around. You had to be really lucky to get in.

Kaeya would never admit it, but he was a bit scared. Having to adapt to new people who did not know him on the other side of the country, far away from home. If he even had a home anymore. He wasn't so sure.

His thought got interrupted by the obnoxious voice of Diluc.

"Kaeya Alberich I swear to god, if you don't turn that music down I'm going to drop you of on the side of the road and have you walk the last bit."

The last bit was 35 kilometers. Kaeya did in fact not want to walk. Defeated, he turned down Beachboy by Mchafferty.

"Jesus Christ Diluc... last name and everything... what are you? My dad?"

The word dad never led to anything good for them.

"Maybe I am. You do not know who he is after all."

It never led to anything good. Kaeya laughed a bitter and humorless laugh, and Diluc realized he had gone to far.

"Sorry," he mumbled. "I was just trying to lighten the mood."

"Stop the car."

Diluc looked away from the road to look over at Kaeya. Did he look sick? Well, he was rather pale and his knuckles gripping on the fabric of his jeans were turning white.

"You gonna be sick?"

Kaeya shook his head.

"No, just need to smoke."

"Good lord, Kaeya, can't you wait until we get to the school?" he checked the time. "We'll be there in 20 minutes."

"Stop the car, Diluc."

Diluc drove over to the side of the road and stopped the car. Kaeya stepped outside and took out a pack of cigarettes from the breast pocket of his gray skirt. The sleeves were rolled up to his elbows so you could see his tanned underarms. His dark blue hair was hanging loose around his shoulders and he wore his leather eyepatch as always. He took out a cigarette from the pack and was just about to light it when...

"Do you have a lighter?"

Diluc looked unimpressed.

"No Kaeya. I don't. But we can probably get one on campus, so jump back in and let's go so we get there before tomorrow."

Kaeya put the cigarette back and let out a long sigh. His fingers were shaking with withdrawal and anxiety.

"Just give me a minute."

Diluc looked at him a bit worriedly.

"Are you nervous?"

Kaeya scoffed.

"Of course not."

Diluc huffed.

"You'll be fine with your carisma. Everyone's gonna love you."

Kaeya knew that was true, he's always had a way with words.

Diluc stepped out of the car and took place next to Kaeya. His red hair was in it's usual ponytail and he was wearing a normal white t-shirt and jeans. He had a hair tie around his wrist.

"Do you know what dorm room we have?" Kaeya asked.

Diluc nodded and took out his phone to check his e-mail.

"I have room 37C and you have room 54C."

Kaeya looked up.

"We're not sharing?"

Diluc shrugged.

"Apparently not?"

"Do you know who we're sharing with?"

"It doesn't say, it's a surprise I guess."

Kaeya did not like surprises, and neither did Diluc.

"Hey," Diluc said. "Turn around."

Kaeya looked up at him. Then he obliged. Diluc took off the hair tie on his wrist and tied up his brothers hair in a high ponytail.

"We're gonna be fine. It's just one semester, then we can go back home if we want to."

Kaeya nodded.

"Let's keep going."

They both sat back in the car and continued their way to the school.

————

The school was huge. There was eight buildings in total, each three levels high made in brick stones and dark wood. There was three building with only dormitories, four with classrooms and one building which was just one huge library. In between the buildings were big lawns with flowers and grass, benches and fountains and trees. You could see students everywhere.

The two brothers parked on the huge parking lot outside of the school ground and stepped out to take everything in. Neither of them had ever seen something like this and they had seen a lot. The school really did live up to it's rumors.

"Where do we even begin?" Kaeya asked.

"I have no idea..."

————

After 30 minutes of searching the two brothers finally found the right person. It was a girl in the library building who had blue hair and a pretty yellow dress.

"Are you looking for your dorms and schedule?" She asked with a kind smile.

"Yeah," Diluc said. "Can we get them from you?"

"I'll help you find the right place! My name's Ganyu, I'm a student here, but I also work in the office sometimes. Please tell me your names."

"Diluc Rangvindr and Kaeya Alberich."

She checked through her computer and some files.

"Yeah... you're in the C building," she looked through a box. "Here's your keys, and your schedule will be on your bed. For food we have a bunch of cafeterias around campus and your first classes start in two days so you get one day to look around and learn the area. Any questions?"

The brothers shook their head.

"Great, go to your dorms then and come back here if you have any questions!"

————

The brothers parted way in the building. Diluc was on the first floor and Kaeya went to the second.

49... 50... 51... 52... 53... 54!

The door was made of dark wood and had an iron tag on it with two names.

"Kaeya Alberich"

And

"Albedo Kreideprinz"

"What a fancy name," Kaeya thought. "Probably a snob."

He put the key in the lock and opened the door.

The room was empty, Albedo had apparently not showed up yet.

The dorm room was pretty big and almost symmetrical with two beds, two desks, two lamps, two closets etc. On the right side of the room was a door, probably to the bathroom. On the left side was a door to the kitchen.

Kaeya checked the bed to the left. The schedule was on the bed just as Ganyu had said. This schedule was filled with chemistry and art. Definitely not Kaeya's. He couldn't even draw a stick figure and definitely not the periodic table. He checked the bed on the right instead. There the schedule was full with English and politics. That was the right one.

So this was his bed.

He dumped his bag on it and went to check the bathroom.

It was nicer then he would have thought. Apparently everything was perfect in this school, even the bathrooms. The walls was skyblue and everything else was clean and white.

Kaeya noticed his fingers shaking again. Well, he actually had the time to smoke now and there was a lighter on a bench in the kitchen. He took it and opened the door.

CRASH

"Oof-" a small voice said.

Kaeya looked down to see what, or rather who had crashed into him. It was a little girl, maybe five or six years old, with blonde hair in two pigtails and bright brown eyes. She was wearing a red dress and a red beret.

She looked at him with awe. Then she opened her mouth and yelled:

"OH MY GOD! BIG BROTHER ALBEDO YOUR ROOMMATE IS SO TALL!!!"

Kaeya looked behind her. There were in fact two people behind her that he hadn't noticed. One woman with the same color hair and eyes as the girl, and one boy in Kaeya's age, with the most beautiful blue eyes. He had shoulder length ash blonde hair and he was wearing a gray t-shirt and khaki shorts. His hair had braids, two of them and holy shit he was an ethereal being.

Love at first sight was not real, and Kaeya knew that. Attraction can be at first sight though, and being attracted to the person he is supposed to be sharing a room with is not going to go well.

"Klee, that's not polite," the boy that supposedly was Albedo said.

The little girl blushed and looked down on the floor, clearly embarrassed.

"It's okay!" Kaeya exclaimed quickly. Then he squatted down in front of the girl to be the same height as her. "Hello Klee, I'm Kaeya. Nice to meet you."

He reached out his hand and shook hers.

"I'm five!" Klee exclaimed and held up five fingers.

"Wow! What a lady!" Kaeya said. "I'm eighteen."

He himself held up ten fingers and then eight.

"Thanks for the help, Alice, I think I'm fine now." Supposedly Albedo said and hugged the woman.

"You're sure?"

Supposedly Albedo nodded.

"Alright then. Say goodbye now Klee!"

Klee waved goodbye to Kaeya and supposedly Albedo and she and the woman who seemed to be called Alice. They left and suddenly Kaeya was alone with his extremely attractive roommate.

"Uh hi," supposedly Albedo said. "I apologize for Klee..."

"Is she your sister?"

Supposedly Albedo nodded. Then he made a grimace.

"Well, kind of, I'm adopted."

"That doesn't make you less siblings?" Kaeya shook his head. "Deep talk before introduction, huh? Sorry, I'm Kaeya, and I'm also adopted."

Supposedly Albedo laughed.

"Really? Wow... I'm Albedo!"

"Nice to meet you, Albedo, I would love to talk more, but I really need to smoke," Kaeya said apologetically, before leaving the dorm room.
