Chapter Text

Everyone was obsessed with The Sea Green Siren. If you owned a YouTube account, then you knew who he was. He was one of the most popular cover artists on the platform with a gorgeous tenor voice and a cool logo.

There was very little information known about him. He was completely anonymous on his channel. Conspiracy theorists worked their asses of trying to discover his identity but it was all in vain.

Truth be told, Annabeth didn’t care about the identity of her favorite YouTuber. If he wanted to never show his face on camera, that was his right. As long as he created videos, she was happy.

Besides, she’d be a hypocrite if she criticized his anonymity. After all, she was the author of one of the biggest webcomics to ever grace the internet, The Traveler. A fully illustrated comic about a female time traveler named Minerva West. And despite its success, she was too much of a coward to tell people that she was the author.

Annabeth had two separate social media accounts on both Twitter and Instagram. One for her personal life which was kept constantly on private mode and then one for her writing persona which was steadily gaining followers as she continued writing the story.

The only people who knew about her side job were the artist of the comic and her best friend, Hazel Levesque, Hazel’s boyfriend Frank Zhang, their merchandise manager, Rachel Elizabeth Dare, her parents, Hazel’s parents, and their social media manager, Reyna Avila Ramírez-Arellano.

And it worked for her. She didn’t need the drama of having her identity out in the open. And besides. She wouldn’t be able to handle having her readers know the details of her personal life.

And her writing persona of “Lady Athena” was so much cooler than just “Annabeth Chase.”

Because of her double life, Annabeth felt almost a sort of kinship with The Sea Green Siren. He mentioned that he was going to college in September, same time as her. Both of them were completely anonymous and both of them had blown up in the recent months. They were in the same boat.

Which is why when the Sea Green Siren hit 1 million, Annabeth logged onto her twitter account for Lady Athena and made a post.

@LadyAthena
Congratulations to @The_Sea_Green_Siren for hitting 1 million! Thanks for being the soundtrack to my writing sessions all these years. Here’s to you and to the many more subscribers to come 🍻

It was just supposed to be a congratulation to someone who was so similar to her. She didn’t expect him to see it, she didn’t expect him to reply. And she didn’t expect for it all to spiral out of control.

Percy had started his YouTube channel when he was 16 years old. It only started gaining real traction when he was 17. By the time he was 18, he had a million subscribers and a steady stream of income.

Despite its success, he didn’t dare show his face on camera or give out any personal information. The only things the public knew about him were his age, his pronouns, and his friendship with Piper McLean.

She started her YouTube channel before him and was actually the one who encouraged him to post his song covers. That was why she was the first person he wanted to celebrate his milestone with.

“So many people are congratulating you on Twitter,” Piper said as she scrolled through her dash. “I feel like a proud mother.”

“More like a bratty older sister,” Percy teased. “But yeah it’s insane.”

She was about to say something when her eyes widened. “Holy shit.”

“What?” he asked.

“You know Lady Athena? Author of The Traveler?” Piper asked.

“Please, I am fully indoctrinated into The Traveler cult. I mean fandom,” Percy said. “What about her?”

“She shouted you out on Twitter!” Piper squealed.

“Let me see that!” Percy snatched her phone and looked at the tweets.

“Oh my god oh my god oh my god!” Percy repeated. “Lady Athena knows I exist! She listens to my covers! She listens to my covers while she writes. Piper I’m going to faint.”

She grabbed her phone back and said, “No you are going to respond with something witty yet humble with just a bit of fanboy.”

Percy took his phone and logged into his account and started to draft a reply, all the while fangirling like a teenage girl. He absolutely loved The Traveler and it’s creators. The respect he had for Lady Athena and Madam Misty, the artist, rivaled the respect he had for most teachers.

Eventually, he managed to reply.

Guys help Lady Athena listens to my music asdfghjkl.
I can’t do this today, my fanboy heart can’t take it. I don’t know how to handle this someone help me-
But seriously this is so sweet. I love your comic, you and @MadamMisty deserve the world.

With that, he hit reply and threw his phone across the room screaming unintelligibly. “I JUST TALKED TO LADY ATHENA PIPER HELP!”

“Chill out or I will dye your hair bright green in your sleep,” Piper said.

“But she and Madam Misty are just so cool!” He yelled. “And the fact that the text bubbles in their comic are dyslexia friendly? I have no choice but to stan them. Besides, you’re a hardcore fangirl don’t think I haven’t heard you scream about the LGBTQ+ rep.”

Piper smiled. “I can’t help it if Minerva is canonically bisexual! That’s awesome!”

“I wonder what they're like in real life,” Percy mused. “Probably the introverted, nerdy types. The Doctor Who references in the comic are the peak of nerd culture.”

“Do you think Athena and Misty know each other in person?” Piper asked. “I mean, they’re the author and artist so I would assume so.”

Their conversation was interrupted by a small ding from Percy’s phone. He strode across the room and picked it up, a smile lighting his face when he saw the notification from Twitter.
