Chapter Text
"There we go," Connie whispered to himself as he stepped out of the bus.
Today was the first day of high school at Titan High, the name sounded very odd to him once he first saw it. But now he understood what they meant with 'Titan', the school has enormous gates keeping anything unwanted out. There were two statues standing on each side, they looked like gigantic humans, only a little creepier.
Once Connie entered the gates (of hell) he felt this sudden feeling of relief wash over him. No one knew him here, no one would make jokes about him anymore or tell the cops about his whereabouts. Connie was finally free.
That was when he felt someone bump into his shoulder. When Connie turned around he saw a scrawny guy from about his age looking at him with a red face. He was taller than Connie, but the embarrassment on his face made him seem way way shorter. The boy shouted something into a direction, Connie had no idea who he was yelling to. All he heard was the name Jean, and something about killing him.
“Sorry! I am so sorry!” the boy said. “I didn’t mean to bump into you. I was fighting and then he pushed me so I pushed harder and then he did too." He then took a breath and shook his head. "Sorry, I just got blinded by rage again.”
Connie knew exactly what he had to do in this situation, if he was back at his old school he would have beat the shit out of this guy. Showing everyone Connie Springer was not to be messed with. Only he couldn’t do that anymore, Connie had to fly under the radar as much as possible. One word about his whereabouts to anyone from Ragako and he’d be done for.
Connie nodded slightly. “It’s okay,” he said. “Accidents happen.”
The boy shook his head and smiled apologetically. “It won’t happen again. I promise.”
Before Connie could turn around to walk away the boy said, “What’s your name? I haven’t seen you around before.”
Connie froze in his tracks. Of course he wasn’t going to lie, and he wanted a fresh start. But this kid seemed like trouble. And even telling someone his name reminded him of everything he didn’t want people to know. His real identity.
“I’m Connie,” Connie said. He looked any direction but the boy’s face.
“Just Connie?” The boy replied.
Connie knew he should just act as normal as possible, but he feared that his last name might ring some bells. Before Connie moved here he had someone call the cops on him just for recognizing his hair.
“Just Connie,” Connie repeated, he nodded slightly.
“Well, my name is Eren, Eren Yeager.” Eren smiled proudly, he looked like he just told someone his father was the president or something. But the last name Yeager didn’t ring any bells. Not to Connie at least.
“Nice to meet you Eren,” Connie said.
And just like that Connie already made one friend, which was more than he had ever made in his entire life. To Connie Eren seemed like a guy he couldn’t quite trust, sure he seemed nice and friendly. But sometimes when he started talking it was like he zoned out and rage started taking over. That was something Eren liked to talk about a lot, his rage.
But Connie needed an anchor, someone— or something that could help him familiarize with Titan High. Eren told Connie he would get to meet all his friends during lunch. And even though making one friend was enough for Connie, he couldn’t wait to make more.
