Work Text:
It was difficult in the beginning after they moved in together. They were different people and their sleep schedules were different. But now that they were settling into a rhythm, things were getting a lot smoother.
Before bed, Klavier would go to his old recording room and play until he was properly relaxed so he could go do his nightly routine and join his already sleeping beloved. And in the mornings Apollo was free to get up at his ungodly hours and go to the recording room to do his daily yelling he erroneously referred to as a vocal “warm-up.”
There were occasions that Apollo still woke him up, but it was getting a lot less common.
Apollo was fortunately a heavy sleeper, so there has yet to be a time where Klavier had accidentally woken Apollo up.
Tonight he had maybe gone a little long with his playing. Inspiration had struck him, and he had little other choice but to follow it to its conclusion. Surely this would pose a problem in the morning, but there was little consequence apart from being told by Apollo of all people, that he seemed grumpy.
Sometimes you had to make sacrifices for art, but perhaps Klavier would move a little quicker through his routine tonight in hopes he could get to bed a little earlier. The damage was done, but he could minimize it. Enough so that Apollo couldn’t call him cranky.
It was a lost battle, but Klavier could pretend otherwise.
He would sneak into the bedroom, despite knowing nothing short of Klavier falling on him and elbowing him in the stomach would wake him up. The bathroom was on the opposite side of the room, so he had nothing to worry about. But it just felt rude to cause a ruckus while Apollo was sleeping. He was cranky after his coffee, and Klavier was not interested in seeing what he was like before.
“Oh, that was fast,” Apollo commented from the bed.
Klavier nearly jumped from his skin. “Ach, I was not aware you were still awake, Schatzi. Normally you would’ve been asleep by now.” from the way Klavier’s hands ached, he should’ve been asleep for a while.
Apollo held up his switch that was previously hidden behind his knees. “I’m just doing a few runs in Hades. I’m not tired, so it can’t be that late.”
Normally he’d be inclined to believe him, but there was one thing that Klavier somehow always managed to forget.
And that was the nights that Apollo stayed up until dawn for no discernible reason apart from the fact he found something to keep him entertained. Did Klavier find it a little offensive that Apollo would fall asleep on him while they were cuddling and watching a movie, but he would be up all night watching the same videos over and over again? Perhaps a little. He would not bring it up though.
“What time is it anyways?” Klavier asked, his phone already plugged into the charger on the nightstand.
“Probably like nine,” Apollo shrugged, rolling over to poke his phone awake.
Silence filled the room as Apollo stared at his phone. Klavier did not yet know what time it was, but he could say for certain that it was not nine. The longer he dragged on, the later he felt it was.
When Apollo finally spoke up, his voice was small and bashful. “It’s two in the morning… I have to get up in three hours…”
“I knew I did bad , but that was perhaps worse than I had imagined,” Klavier mumbled, running his fingers through his hair. “Ach, how cruel it is to be struck by a muse, only to be robbed like this.”
“You’re still going to be fine… You get an extra two hours…” Apollo huffed, getting up to brush his teeth, setting his switch on it’s dock as he passed it.
“No one is making you get up that early, Schatzi,” even if it meant Klavier had to see Apollo at his crankiest, it’d still be nice to be able to wake up next to him.
“I can’t miss my Chords of Steel. It’s the basis for my self esteem. If I don’t do it, I’m fucked.”
Klavier kissed Apollo’s cheek as he passed, following him into the bathroom to start his nightly skin routine. “I could just tell you how great you are throughout the day. There’s so much I could say.”
Apollo’s face went red as he sputtered in an attempt to find words. It was hard not to chuckle at how cute it was.
“Please don’t…” he finally grumbled out, before grumpily taking his toothbrush to start brushing.
“But what if I want to see you make cute little faces like that?” he gave him a wink as he leaned against the counter. He could wait for Apollo to finish brushing his teeth before he took a quick shower.
Apollo turned to pout at him around the toothbrush. An open invitation to kiss his forehead. “And like that.”
He snickered as Apollo flipped him off, managing a barely comprehensible “You’re lucky you’re pretty.” around his toothbrush.
“I’m honored you think I’m pretty.”
Apollo spat into the sink. “You’re lucky it’s two in the morning. I have some choice words about how great you are that’d really knock your socks off.”
“I’ll be sure to keep my socks on around the house should you ever get the urge to knock them off.”
Apollo rinsed quickly, just so he could properly respond. “Yeah, you better keep your head on a swivel, Gavin. Because I’m going to get you.”
Klavier couldn’t help but chuckle. “I’ll do my best then,” he gently kissed him. “But you should save those thoughts until the morning, We wouldn’t want you getting so riled up you don’t even get your three hours, ja?”
“I guess…” he’d give him a quick kiss. “Try not to take too long. I like waking up in your arms, and I can’t do that if you’re still getting ready for bed when I wake up.” he grinned.
He rolled his eyes, shooing him out of the bathroom. “Then I think it’s time for the defense to rest, ja?”
Apollo snorted, clearly pleased with his retaliation. “Fine. Night Klavier.”
“Sweet dreams, Mein Schatz.”
