Work Text:
Mycroft Holmes is a busy man, and it’s not a problem; not for you. When you started to date him - even before that - you were very well aware of his hellish schedule. He had a country to protect and it was the one and only thing which went before you in his list of priorities (you and Sherlock are at the same level). So, yeah, you were ok with never knowing when he would get home when he was working, when he would have to go in a rush when he was with you, if he would be able to call you or if you would receive messages or even freaking encrypted letters; it was alright. Because Mycroft Holmes was a loyal, dedicated man, and you loved him for that.
What was not ok, on the other hand, was for a saucy woman to try and flirt with YOUR man. Neither was the way you learnt about it. Yesterday, when Mycroft had called you, you were SO happy to hear of him! He had disappeared for several days and the encrypted messages you had received - his way to let you know he was a) alive, b) thinking about you - had been laconic to say the least. State secrets and all that jazz... But Mycroft had told you he would come home tomorrow evening - so today now - and it was widely good enough for you. Hell, it would have been heaven, if Lady Smallwood hadn’t put her haughty and powdered nose in a business which was strictly YOURS.
“Do you want me to pick you up, tomorrow?”
“No, honey, thank you, I have some socialzing duties to fill out before coming back home?”
“Socia- Wait, is that your way to tell me you’ll go to Sherlock’s?”
“Unfortunately not, Lady Smallwood want... How did she put it in, already? - Yes, she wants “to have a drink” with me.”
What you had wanted to say was “Is that a f*cking joke?!”, but you knew Mycroft. he was a genius, sure; and he was very good at predicting people reactions. But he wouldn’t be able to recognize someone trying to flirt with him if his life depended on it. So you had taken a big inspiration and calmly asked “I beg your pardon?”
“She wants to have a drink with me, wathever that means. And since she’s a member of Parliament, I hardly can say no now, can I?”
Nope, there’s no one as socially dense as your boyfriend. You shouldn’t find it so adorable, but, well, once again: you decided to date Mycroft Holmes.
“Yes, darling, you can, but you won’t, ok? Because I’ll come with you; when is your appointment?”
“Oh, hum, let me check... 8pm, is it good for you or should I call to reschedule?”
“Nooo, it’s perfect, love, I’ll be there. Tell Anthea I’ll pick you up.”
“Right, I still have to call Lady Smallwood, then; she said she would pick me up, and-”
“Don’t, you interrupt him, you know what? It’s better this way, I’ll call Anthea so she will pick me up and drop me at your office. We wouldn’t want to bother Lady Smallwood, would we?”
“I mean, no, but I would if it’s for making your life easier.”
God, you love this man...
“It’s perfect, love, don’t you worry. See you then, I love you.”
“I love you too, Y/N.”
Lady Smallwood wanted to play? Alright, then; the game was on.
The next day, Anthea and Mycroft’s driver came to pick you up, just as planned. At 7:45, you were making your way trough the Cabinet Office to Mycroft. Anthea regained her desk in the middle of the room and let you scrape at her boss’ door.
“Come in.”
Mycroft, in the flesh, at last. You entered the office with a spring in your step; “Good evening, boyfriend of mine.”
The elder Holmes didn’t lift his head out of his papers, but he smiled anyway; “Good evening to you too, girlfriend of mine.”
“Can you ask the United Kingdoms to let you go long enough to kiss me hello?”
“I can try, but you know how very needy they are.”
“Certainly, do I have to throw a tantrum or can we amicably settle this?”
That had Mycroft looking your way, and even turning his chair to face you. “What is your proposition to avoid the tantrum? Wait, is that my shirt?”
A smug smile made its way to your lips. “I offer this arrangement: you’re all mine tonight and I’ll give you back to the country first thing tomorrow in the morning. And, yes, this in, indeed, your shirt.” Before your boyfriend had had the time to react in anyway, you plopped down on his lap.
As the embodied British Governement, Mycroft can’t afford PDA. He needs to look deadly serious, stern, cold, severe. You also understand it, it’s ok, as long as you have your fix of kisses and cuddles behind closed doors. People would probably be stunned, but he never fails to deliver. So it’s absolutely not a surprise to feel his hand coming to your waist for security, and the other to your cheek, because he finally tenderly kiss you on the lips. “Why did you put on a shirt of mine, sweetheart? Did something happen to your wardrobe?”
Romantic gestures, another field your boyfriend can’t claim to be an expert in... Never mind, you wouldn’t love him any other way. “Because I missed you, Mickey; I wanted to feel close to you, you see?” No, he won’t see, because “Don’t call me Mickey, you-”
Right in the trap...
“Not “Mickey”?; ok, what about Mike? No? Mickie-Mike? No, no, I got it: Mimi! Or-”
You loved to tease Mycroft, he was used to it; and he knew the only way to shut you up was to kiss the living breath out of you. So, he did. You curled your hand around his tie to bring him as close to you as possible. You didn’t lie: you’ve missed him, so you just gave as good as you get until a startled gasp made Mycroft break the kiss; Lady Smallwood had just entered the scene, following Anthea, who was doing her best to appear dumbfounded.
“I’m sorry Mr. Holmes, I thought you were waiting for Lady Smallwood and-”
Said Lady didn’t look pleased, she scowled right at you, but you were smirking, not even trying to look flustered, so maybe she had an excuse here.
“Why would you introduce Lady Smallhood here when you very well know I’m with Miss Y/L/N, I really can’t figure, Anthea!”
God bless your boyfriend’s “secretary” who knew very well she would be snapped to and agreed to help you in your plan anyway. You would make sure to whiten her later as well as find a way to thank her; Mycroft should still have Miss Adler’s number somewhere...
“Excuse me, Mister holmes,” this is it; either she forfeits, either you fight her for Mycroft. Whos till hasn’t no idea about what’s going on in his own office; “I... I was just coming to cancel our appointment and apologize. I didn’t mean to disturb you. Good night.” Forfeit it is.
You heard Lady Smallwood heal’s moving off in the hall; Anthea quietly shut the door while Mycroft tried to pull the pieces together. To no avail.
“I hate to ask, but could you explain me what just happened?”
Your smile turned soft; you played a nasty trick to everybody, but hadn’t had any bad intention.
“What happened; well, a woman asked you out, as in a date - yes, Mycroft, I know you didn’t know, don’t worry - and I just... Well... Asserted my territory? With Anthea’s help, by the way, so if you want to be mad at someone, be mad at me, she didn’t do anything I didn’t ask her to.”
“‘Asserted your territory’?”
“Is it all you memorized of what I just said?!”
“First things first, dearie,” he was smiling; good, “I didn’t know you were jealous.”
“I will put it down to you, love: you’re mine and I don’t share.”
You’re Mycroft Holmes’ girlfriend, after all, he should know what to expect!
