Work Text:
SAXA
It is not an easy thing to handle. Even for her.
Thousands of years… They were always together. But now, Vidar’s loss is a thing. And fucking selfish bastard Fjor is with his mortal girlfriend, abandoning his family. She is not sure if she should pity him or be mad at him for leaving them. Maybe both.
Still, she is the only one who is standing. Ran is drinking, smoking, and never leaving her room. Even if a meteor would hit Jutulheim, Ran would still be in her bedroom, watching the ceiling.
Saxa locks her car and walks towards the diner. She’s hungry and has no energy to cook dinner. Ran stopped preparing food for them after Vidar’s death. Saxa could hunt but has lots of work to do and no time to hunt. Also she always hates getting rid of the blood stains.
This local diner was a nice place for her and her friends, once. But now, only a stop for her to grab a meal and go. She pushes the door and the small bell rings.
“ ...And there’s Saxa now, representing the evil voice of the Jutul company… ”
It isn’t hard to recognize Oscar’s voice. In the end, they spent many years back then.
“Hey.” she says feebly.
Oscar hides his face with a hand, ashamed. The other two girls that she doesn’t care about, also turn their faces to the table, embarrassed. She never cares to look at them but Magne. Her eyes suddenly catch Magne Seier. So do he. Magne keeps his blue eyes on her, she can feel his lightning-like look on her body. The points that his glares touch are tingling as if stings. Her eyes first, then her cheeks, then her neck. She cuts the eye contact immediately and turns to the counter.
“One burger, diet coke. No fries. Take-away.”
Jens nods and leaves for the kitchen to prepare her order.
“Hey… Saxa.”
She tries not to look at first but Magne leans the counter and stands next to her. She doesn’t respond. He continues.
“I know that we don’t get along much. But... I’m sorry about your father. I also lost a father, I know how it feels like.”
What’s he doing? Is he trying to make her lower her guard? Or acting?
Even though these were the first things she thought of, she is aware what kind of a person he is. He is straight-forward. No lies, no games, no schemes.
She sniffs, tries to hide her pain. “Thanks.” she mutters. Magne nods slowly and turns back to go to his table but Saxa suddenly holds his arm. He stops, stone-cold. Ready for an attack. But surely he doesn’t expect her words.
“I was also abandoned by a brother, Magne. I know how it feels.
He lifts his brows, confused. She lets his arm go. But Magne doesn’t go. Stays where he is, looks at her in a weird way. In a different way. He nods again, but keeps his confused face. “See you.” he says quietly. And somehow Saxa knows both of them are aware that they are going to see each other again. Soon.
“Your order is ready.”
As soon as Jens appears, Magne leaves. Saxa opens her purse and gives her credit card to Jens. While paying Saxa internally curses herself. Why did she say such a thing? In the end she is a giant. And he is a god. They have been destined to hate each other for thousands of years.
She grabs her meal box and goes back to her car. She decides to listen to The End from Sibylle Baier, tonight.

MAGNE
Magne watches Saxa’s car until it disappears at the end of the road. Says goodbye to Oscar and leaves for home. While walking home alone, he dives into thoughts. Couldn’t help but think they’re similar in some ways. They both didn’t choose to be like this. These powers, this immortality, this war. She was obeying her family’s choices. It was understandable, family is everything. But Magne never thought of it if she didn’t have any choice but to obey.
He sighs, rubs his eyes and keeps on walking. He is heading home, but he doesn’t want to be there. Seeing his mom desperate, absence of Laurits… These are too much compared to last year. He decides to have a walk in the woods before the night falls. He passes his home and follows the parkour. Normally it’s a simple walking parkour but after a few hundred meters, a small path leads to high hills of Edda. He sees the lights of the town slowly getting brighter as the last marks of sun in the sky fade away. He climbs to reach his favourite point. It’s too high for others to reach, so he was always alone to make up his mind.
Really?!
He sees a silhouette, sitting on his favourite spot. He cautiously get closer to the figure. It’s almost impossible for someone who doesn’t have Magne’s strength. But this thought gives the answer to his question.
Saxa Jutul suddenly turns her head to him, scowling, while chewing a mouthful of burger. She removes her airpods, barely swallows her bite.
“What are you doing here?” Magne blurts out.
She shakes her burger towards him, “I’m eating my food. You’re the one who shows up out of nowhere.”
“Oh… Well I was thinking I was the only one who came here.”
“Sorry, you’re not.” she replies and eats the last bite of her burger.
Magne steps closer “Can I sit?”
Saxa shrugs and Magne takes it as a yes since she didn’t try to kill him. He just hopes she won’t push him from the edge of the cliff but he doesn’t feel any kind of danger alert and she is only enjoying the last sip of her coke.
“You must be hungry.” implying the food.
“Ugh, I didn’t eat anything the whole day.” she rolled her eyes. “Business sucks. But I have to. Since… You know.”
Magne knows. Knows very well but remains quiet. He starts watching the sunset. A gentle breeze tickles his cheeks, bringing the smell of mountain flowers from far far away.
“Why you’re not at home?” he asks warily.
“Ran is getting on my nerves. I prefer being here until she goes to her bedroom. Also the mountain house is not far.” she replied nonchalantly. “What about you?”
“Uh… At home, things are… Tense.”
Saxa only nods, and doesn't comment on it. It somehow relieves Magne. He always felt awkward when people tried to comfort him. Maybe she is understanding him. They were sharing the same feelings which is more comforting than any unnecessary words.
“Thanks.” This time Magne thanks her.
“Why?” she asks but she already knows the answer.
“For sharing the silence.”
And then, for the first time she genuinely smiles at him. It's warm, it's beautiful. Sincerity suits her, he thinks. Approaches closer.
“Any time, Magne Seier. Any time when we’re not enemies.”
Magne smiles back, “Please don’t push me from the cliff, now.” turns to her.
She laughs and shakes her head, “I don’t feel like killing you today. You can take your time.”
He isn’t sure if it was an instinct or something else. There are only five or ten centimeters between their faces he's sure of it. Doesn't realize when they come this close. He is able to smell her perfume. And her warmth is.... His heart starts beating like a drum as soon as their lips meet.
Their kisses are like flames and his lips are burning but it stirs up his desire for more. He holds her waist and pulls her closer as her fingers run through his hair. Fire runs through his veins. Magne doesn’t know if it’s because they’re from the opposite sides of an old legacy or not. But both of them don’t care at that moment. It’s obvious opposites do attract. But they are not completely different.
Magne stayed in their mountain house that night. He had so many questions about Saxa and about himself. But allowed himself to think about everything tomorrow.
