Work Text:
When I walked into the apartment, my sense of smell was immediately attacked with the scent of old books and coffee beans. I smiled inwardly; it was one of my favourite kinds of smells. It wasn’t too harsh, it was calming and made me feel welcome. I was also greeted with the overly pleasant warmth of the room. I shrugged off my jacket and carefully put down my bag as I further entered the apartment, the door clicking shut behind me. Other than my footsteps and the faint clicks of the clock on the wall, the rooms were completely silent.
It was when I found myself in the small sitting area of the apartment that I found the occupant. Lying on the couch with a book sitting abandoned on his lap was one Spencer Reid, asleep, head lolled back onto the soft pillows of the couch.
I grin, it was truly an adorable sight, the dishevelled nature to his hair and how it fell in front of his face. It made me want to brush if away with my hand. Instead, I placed myself beside him on the couch, making it dip slightly. He shifted at that, mumbling something in his sleep but was otherwise still. I continued to watch him as he slept, it was oddly calming.
Eventually, I noticed his eyes start to blink open until they looked up at me sleepily.
“Y/N?” He mumbled in a tired and raspy tone, just how long had he been asleep for until now?
“Hey, Spence.”
“I wasn’t expecting you this early.”
“It’s already evening…”
“Oh,” He looks down to check the watch that was on his left wrist over his shirt sleeve. “it’s that late already? I guess I must have lost track of time. I was re-reading this book. “He holds up the book to show – I chuckle
“You mean the book you’ve read like seven times?” A slight flush appears on his face.
“Maybe… you know according to a –
I smile and he stops. “What is it?”
“Oh, I just like hearing you talk. Keep going.” He smiles timidly before continuing to spit out more random facts and statistics that I have no use for, but I don’t stop him at any point. Mid-ramble he lets out a sleepy yawn.
“Tired?”
“No, not at all.”
“It’s okay, sleep, I’ll watch over you.”
“But you just got here…:
“And I’ll be here when you wake up. Trust me, just lay down here…” I scoot down to the other end of the couch, pulling his head onto my lap and allowing his legs to spread across the rest of the length of the sofa. I began running my fingers through the unruly curls and I felt his head move as he got settled.
He looked up at me with heavy eyes, he smiled, and I returned the gesture.
I continued carding my fingers through his hair as he drifted off, the soft sounds of his breathing filling my ears. Eventually, I felt my hand slowly and my own eyes began to droop. I looked down at my baby one last time before I drifted off with my hands still tangled in his hair.
