Chapter Text
“Are you sure you can dance stranger? this feels a bit wobbly”
“Oh? is that challenge?” the blonde stranger tightened her grip and pulls the princess closer. Close enough for their noses to touch. Enough for them to feel the breathe of one another.
"Wah!" the princess squealed.
“If you wanted a show. All you had to do was ask” the stranger remarked as she flashed a devilish grin taking the lead in their dance.
"Don't be so rough!" the princess demanded in whispers.
Ina’nis the princess of the royal family a pampered high-society maiden was no spoiled brat, but even then she had her face burning red with the desire to punch this outrageous stranger square on the face for the disrespect she has just received. A desire that was growing with every step.
"Sorry." The stranger chuckled.
"No you're not." The princess retorted.
Amelia, the stranger - laughed through gritted teeth. Her blue eyes stared straight into her partners purple eyes that seemed to shine with the glint of stars as it reflected the ballrooms own lights while her face hid behind her white masquerade mask. Amelia closed her eyes and shook her head quickly snapping out of her daze.
She then asked "But can you keep up with those adorable little dancing shoes?" A smirk apparent on her lips.
"Try me." Ina replied pompously before puffing her chest and pursing her lips.
Amelia a seemingly random middle-class noble, a woman in black male clothing(this only princess knew)and white mask. Ina’nis the princess of the royal family dressed in the brightest of purple and hues of yellow that could easily enchant anyone who lays eyes on her for the first time.
Normally people would’ve been begging for a chance to dance with someone who’s dress seemed to demand attention and assume importance - to take her away from such a poor and simple looking noble man. But no one in the room could step in and separate the magnificent pair of dancers as they moved and twirled around the ballroom floor.
Ina could feel the vibrations of the orchestra's beating in the air; the longer they danced the more she became aware of the music. With every change in the speed of the orchestra’s number, with every beat and every step - slowly losing herself to the melody as the tempo grew in speed and intensity. As if the red strings of fate finally tied its knots on her arms and waist - leading her like a graceful marionette around ballroom floor as the lights slowly dimmed lighter.
The dancers around the pair began disappearing until there was only the two of them. The audience were far too mesmerized and in awe of the synchronicity of the two strangers dancing to focus on their own. Some even tripped and fell over their partners. Some just stood and stopped right where they were to watch the beautiful scenery one could only hope be painted and immortalized.
Every single one of the audience had pride in their pedigree, but non considered themselves worthy of stepping in-between the dance that the heavens themselves seemed to deem worthy as it bathed the pair with the light of the full moon that found its way peeking through the open curtains.
The pair of dancers in question however, was wrapped in their own world. A world of darkness down below, and a world of sunshine up top. Losing their selves to the sway of each other’s dress and hair. Not realizing that their fellow dancers were no more and that a circle has formed around them which consisted of what used to be dancers and waiters, now nothing more than an audience to their performance.
"I guess you can dance after all." Ina admitted as she spun away from the blonde stranger, their hands still locked together. Inseparable. “I'll give you that.”
"You should at least try to act like you resent this" Amelia chuckled as she pulled the princess back in.
"Do I though?" Ina replied. Raising her eyebrows as she looked directly into her partners eyes.
"Careful now, don't stare too deep. You might fall in love." Amelia replied with a smug smile full of confidence.
"You wish."
"Yeah, I wish."
Amelia’s eyebrows furrowed. She quickened her pace into a more elegant waltz as the music grew faster and louder, hoping to lead her partner for a while longer. To prove she was no ordinary person, that she wasn’t just someone you could just forget. Being who she was meant that she was trained in certain ways and practices, and making use of her skills was Amelia’s greatest talent.
Ina however, did not falter. Instead, she smirked in response, matching Amelia’s footwork and spinning herself in Amelia’s arms when she cued. They were getting close to the edge of the circle of audiences, but that didn’t last long as the people made room and gave space; the pair of dancers made use of that space wisely.
They pushed at the border of this newly found area, widening their steps, following the flow of their unchoreographed routine. At one point, Ina heard Amelia whisper some kind of praise. Though before she could return it, she was immediately coaxed into a well-planned dip, which threw her off balance as they both tried to catch their breaths and the music slowly faded…. Then a thunderous applause and cheering resounded all around the room as they looked at each other with admiration..
With a hand on the small of Ina’s back and the other grasping her hand firmly, Ina felt nothing but strength and trust in the stranger’s actions. The more the stranger showed off, the more Ina felt the need to kiss this strangers cheek as a sign of thank you. Perhaps her most foolish thought tonight was thinking that this urge was brought upon by just the want to ‘give thanks’.
Amelia gradually pulled Ina back in, their sweat apparent and dripping. A devious smile plastered on Amelia’s face. Ina rested her head on Amelia’s shoulders the moment she was able regain her balance; panting and trying to catch her breath. When she finally managed to regain her bearings, she looked at the stranger’s eyes and marveled at how beautiful they were
The strangers eyes reminded her of the blue sky. Her white mask, the clouds and then her blonde hair. Her blonde hair drenched in moonlight; reminded her of how the sun-shines. All these thoughts ran within her head while she fought the urge to rip off the mask and reveal who this amazing stranger was.
There was a brief moment of silence, a silence that was broken by Ina clearing her throat. With one last huff she asked “One more dance?” a wide smile across her face. A smile that wouldn’t take no for an answer.
Amelia raised an eyebrow in surprise as she tilted her head. She flashes a smile of her own. Looks down and shakes her head as she let out a bubbly laugh. She then replied "One last dance."
"Oh how it feels to be a liar tonight" The princess said in an alluring voice as she positioned her arm back on the strangers shoulders.
"Being a liar is the most glorious thing tonight." The blonde stranger agreed as she placed both her hands behind her partners waist, wrapping her in a tight embrace.
"We are nothing but two beautiful liars, aren't we?" Ina whispered to the strangers ear.
"Indeed we are." Amelia whispered back.
The music starts again~
