"Hey, if you had the ability to go twenty years back in time, what's one thing you would change?" Kasumi asked flopping her arm over the chair's back.
Beel put his book down and thought for a moment before smiling and looking back, "That's a secret."
"Aww come on! Tell me~"
"I'd rather not."
"Does it have something to do with me?"
He looked over the pages of the book at her before shrugging and flipping a page sarcastically.
"Beel! Seriously!"
"Seriously what?" he closed it again. Standing up and shading his eyes from the sunlight. "We can go out when Mammon comes back right?"
Kasumi pouted and turned off her drawing tablet. "Stop ignoring me!"
"Here he comes. Come on." he tossed aside his shirt and ran ahead into the water.
"You can't just- I'm not done! You gotta tell me!"
"What would you do? If you went back."
"Hmm," she stepped cautiously into the shallow part of the water. Letting the soft waves lap at her feet as they sank in the sand. "Not sure to be honest."
"Careful, if you stand there too long you might sink."
"Oh yeah, your right. Tide's going out isn't it?" she walked in and grabbed his arm. "To be honest, there's this fair that always would pass by my home. I never really got a chance to go to it as a kid. And it doesn't pass near where I lived anymore. So I'd go there."
"Sounds like fun. Maybe if you did, I would come too."
She laughed and ran out further into the water. "I was like three, so even if we did meet I would have never remembered silly."
"You never know."
"True, but still haha. What do you think you would have done if we met back then?"
"I dunno. I don't know what you were like as a kid."
She stopped running for a moment to look back at him, looking down at the water that has reached right below her chest. Deep enough to swim in, almost. "I liked swimming."
"What does that have to do with a fair?" he laughed, picking her up.
"I'm not a kid. Put me down." Beel kissed her on the cheek cutely and her protesting stopped with a growl. "When I was three.... From what I remember my hair was pretty short. And I was really quiet. Dark brown eyes and hair, and pale skin since I didn't eat much. Though, if you called my name I would always come running hehe. Do you think you could find me that way?"
"That's vague, but I could."
They were quiet for a moment, playing around in the water and chasing the other. Not for any reason, it's just that the sports buggies were both pretty energetic. Somehow she managed to wrestle him into the water.
"Are you trying to drown me!?" he laughed as they both came up for air.
"Not today no.", she laughed back. "So, if you were to go twenty years back in time, you'd come to save me wouldn't you."
"I wouldn't say save-"
"But that's what you would have done.", she wrapped her arms around his waist and pulled him back underwater.
When he opened his eyes to look at her through the waves, her pink hair was floating in all directions. She smiled, wrapping her arms around his neck and leaning in.
So what if he did find a way to go back in time to meet her? She definitely would have been different, there's no denying that, but the Kasumi he knew now was the best version of her in his head. She had been through a lot. All those things made her the chaotic person she was now. Being underwater was a nice way of seeing things differently.
They emerged and she buried her face in his chest. "You're so cheeky!"
"You're the one who dragged me down."
"You didn't have to kiss me!"
"Couldn't help myself."
"Yes, you could have!"
"I'm hungry. Let's go back."
"Beel stop doing that! You started this!"
"I wonder if there's a fish and chips place nearby?"
"Come back here!" she protested as he practically dragged her out the water with him. "Ahh this is unfair." She grumbled, taking advantage of the situation to ask for a piggyback ride. "I'm going to get you back for that later."
"I'll look forward to your comeback."
"Be quiet!"
His playful hearty laugh was followed by a deep sigh before he said, "I love you.", and she hid her face in the crook of his neck.
"I love you too."
