Work Text:
Momo was frustrated and close to tears. Why couldn’t she be better? How did she trick everyone into thinking she was anything more than a fraud?
She was going to fail the exam and then everyone would see. It was just history; why was this her downfall? The class is just memorization, and that’s all her quirk was. So why couldn’t she just remember enough to pass the test?
She sighed to herself and tried to wipe her eyes inconspicuously. She was with Jirou- no it’s Kyouka now- and didn’t want to worry her newfound girlfriend. But of course, like in history, she failed.
“Hey, you’ve been sighing a lot and you just wiped your eyes. What’s wrong Momo?”
Kyouka was such a good girlfriend. She always listened. She always comforted Momo, and reminded her of all the “wonderful” things she’s accomplished. Momo often thought Kyouka was biased and exaggerating, but it was still nice to hear.
“I’m worried about the history exam. It’s nothing and silly, really. You don’t need to worry about me,” Momo finally responded. She didn’t want to put all of her issues on Kyouka.
“You shouldn’t be worried.” They were in the young musician’s room and had been sitting on the bed at their respective ends doing homework. Now though, the purple haired teen moved closer to her girlfriend and took the girl into her arms.
Momo basked in the arms wrapped around her middle and leaned into them.
“I just don’t remember enough. I can’t tell you who did what or when. How am I supposed to reason and explain the trends of history if I don’t know history?”
Kyouka hugged Momo closer and put her chin on the other girl’s shoulder.
“You know more than anyone else in the class, except maybe Midoriya and Iida. You know plenty more than me, and will be just fine.” Momo just shook her head.
“Well, even if I know things now, I get too nervous. I’m going to forget everything while taking the test and then fail.”
“You won’t fail. And you don’t seem too nervous. You’re just lacking confidence-” Momo shifted to look her girlfriend in the eyes.
“Kyouka. I’m so nervous, my biology turned to survival mode.”
“What?”
“I’m almost half a month late for my period.”
“Well, let’s pray you’re not pregnant,” Kyouka joked, trying to get her girlfriend to laugh. And it sort of worked. Momo gave a huff of a laugh, then groaned and pushed her forehead against Kyouka’s shoulder.
“I told my mother a few days ago, just how late I am. She’s convinced I have a secret boyfriend. I told her it was just stress, and that I’ve never even looked at any of the boys here that way, but she just doesn’t believe me.” Kyouka started laughing so hard she fell over
“Who does she think you would even,” Kyouka cut herself off with more laughter.
Momo sat up and rubbed her forehead with both hands. “She is assuming either Iida or Todoroki. They were both at different banquets I’ve been to, and she keeps telling me of all the times she’s seen me looking at them with interest. And, obviously I haven’t because I’m a lesbian, but it’s not like I can tell her that. She would be so disappointed, but I also know I have to tell her one day, but-”
“Hey, breathe.” Kyouka moved Momo’s hands from her face before replacing them with her own. “It’s okay. You can tell her at any point you want to, don’t feel forced into anything. From what you’ve told me about your parents, they’ll still love you. They’ll still support you. And if they don’t you can just run away and live with me. My parents won’t care, goodness knows they did worse in their teenage years.”
Momo sighed before nodding. “I know my parents will still love me, but they want biological grandchildren one day. And my brother, well he, you know.” Kyouka nodded because she did know. Momo’s older brother had run away and left no way to contact him. He said he didn’t want to be pressured into anything or stay in the same environment. “I just, I want my parents to be happy. But what if I keep them from that by being who I am? I hate that I’ll be giving them that pain.”
“I’m sure they’ll understand. If they care that much about biology, they can have another child. I think they just want grandchildren in general. I mean, most parents do.” Kyouka laughed lightly and brought Momo into her arms again.
For a while they just enjoyed being together. Kyouka occasionally and gently kissed Momo’s neck and shoulders. And then Momo would laughed and curl into herself, “stop, you know I’m ticklish.”
It was a good afternoon Momo decided. Even if her mom still thought she was pregnant, and she was sure to fail her history exam.
“Wait, how late is your period?” Kyouka suddenly asked.
“12 days. I’m three days short of half a month.” At that Kyouka faced her girlfriend and gripped her shoulders tightly.
“If you don’t get your period soon, or immediately after that exam, you’re going to Recovery Girl. I don’t need my girlfriend dying on me.”
Momo laughed and agreed before stating that they should probably go back to their homework. Kyouka groaned and then crawled back to the otherside of the bed.
The day after the history exam (Momo received a perfectly good 97 by the way), Momo got her period. And she would complain to Kyouka in the nicest way possible that, “cramps that were held back for an extra half cycle are from Hell and shouldn’t be wished upon anyone.”
Momo hadn’t expected anything big to come out of this, but when Kyouka joked about throwing a party in celebration of not being pregnant, Mina overheard. Once Mina understood what happened she was adamant that a party was thrown and no one could change her mind. It was funny, why not? That’s why that Saturday, Class 1-A was celebrating Momo’s nonpregnant self. Many boys were confused, and the girls just enjoyed themselves. It was voted later that night that this party would become an annual thing, if only because it was a nice way to destress from the recent exam season.
She also shared the news with her mother that her period had come, she wasn’t pregnant, nor would she ever be. It was a long and heartfelt conversation. Her parents both made sure to shower their daughter with love and acceptance. Kyouka was right, of course. Her parents merely wanted grandchildren one day and didn’t care if they were biological or not. If any future children were raised by Momo, they were their grandchild and going to be spoiled.
