Work Text:
It is breakfast time on a Sunday like any other Sunday in Hogwarts, when the doors of the Great Hall open and the rowdy crowd is taken aback to the point of a full minute of complete silence. And what follows is a flurry of whispers.
"Is that Jeon Jungkook holding hands with a Slytherin?"
Now there isn't much that can bring about an onslaught of whispers to the student body of Hogwarts, a school teaching magic, a school with a history of countless abnormal events.
Yes, there isn't much that can really surprise a majority of the students there, but what they witness this particular Sunday morning is definitely noteworthy.
It's Gryffindor's favorite Seeker Jeon Jungkook, who brought the Gryffindor Quidditch Team the Hogwarts Cup for the second year in a row only last week, walking into the Great Hall wearing scarlet and gold, holding hands with a mysterious Slytherin student.
"Who is that guy?"
That guy is a 7th year Slytherin student that Jungkook met in the study group for Care of Magical Creatures class, Kim Taehyung.
More accurately, Taehyung is the only reason that Jungkook joined the study group in the first place, after seeing him instruct a bunch of 4th years on how to handle Streelers by the lake and falling in love with the mole on his nose and the friendly way he spoke to his underclassmen.
"He is pretty."
Jungkook thinks as much. As he listens to the whispers around him, he is filled with equal parts of embarrassment and pride.
He is used to the attention. He is used to other students talking about him wherever he goes -especially the past week after the Hogwarts Quidditch Cup- what with him having caught the Golden Snitch more times than any other Seeker for the past two years and all. It is still embarrassing, though, that this time around people are talking about something pretty personal and not about his achievements in a sports event.
The pride, however, comes from the fact that he is holding hands with Kim Taehyung in front of the whole school.
Jungkook is proud of himself for having been brave enough to ask Taehyung out on a date to Hogsmeade the day before, for sneaking out of the castle and back in successfully, for kissing Taehyung in front of the portraits leading to the entrance of the Slytherin common room, not giving a damn about the snide comments and the eye-rolling of the old, dead folk.
He is proud that he didn't let his shy nature keep him from doing all of those things after almost two school terms of pining and yearning, proud that he let himself have the chance to be happy.
They reach the Slytherin table and Taehyung just plumps down at an empty spot as if they don't have all eyes on them. When he looks up at Jungkook and gestures with his hand for him to sit down next to him, Jungkook gulps and quickly looks around at all the Slytherin students gazing at him.
"Uh," he stutters, but before he can tell Taehyung that he doesn't think this is the best idea, Taehyung is already pulling him down by his wrist and Jungkook quickly throws a leg over the bench in order not to faceplant the table and all the food on it.
"Good morning," Taehyung tells his housemates and a few grumble it back as Jungkook properly sits down between his new boyfriend and a girl he recognizes as the Slytherin Quidditch Team's Chaser, Jennie.
"Hi," he mumbles, looking at her with his eyes wide like a deer caught in the headlights.
"Hi?" Jennie says, raising an eyebrow, taking a sip from whatever is in her glass. "How come you're sitting at our table a week after your team defeated ours?" she asks with a smirk, quickly catching up to Jungkook's uncomfortable demeanor.
"Uh," Jungkook stutters again, "should I leave?" he asks back, feeling too out of place to realize that she's just teasing him.
"Relax," Jennie laughs shortly and looks back at her plate as she whispers: "Just act cool, it's fine. You're not the first person to date someone from another house."
"Right," Jungkook says in response, shaking his head and looking at his own plate, which Taehyung is currently filling up with pastries. He tries his best to relax a little because she is right.
Only a few minutes ago, before the two walked into the Great Hall, Jungkook was much more relaxed about the whole thing. He hadn't even considered the possibility of people making a big deal out of it. He was just happy to have Taehyung's warm hand in his. And frankly, mentally that's where Jungkook wanted to be back at.
As he tries to ignore the whispers and put his worries aside, one particular question coming from someone else on the Slytherin table does catch Jungkook's attention, as it's directed at Taehyung. It's a sweet voice, asking: "So you brought the enemy to our territory, huh, Taetae?"
Jungkook looks over to see that it's that guy, Jimin, who Jungkook always sees hanging out with Taehyung. Taehyung's best friend - his soulmate.
"Quit it," Taehyung giggles, shoving a piece of toasted bread into Jimin's mouth before he can fluster Jungkook even more.
They joke around with Jimin as they finally get to have their breakfast. Jungkook is happy to finally meet Jimin, knowing how important their friendship is to Taehyung. He can't wait until Taehyung gets to know his friends better.
The whispers die down eventually, and everyone gets on with their day, students and professors leaving the Great Hall one by one when they're done with their breakfast.
Whispers about rumors of Jungkook 'dating the Gryffindor prefect with the dimples' are the last they hear about themselves from the people around them. Which leads to Jungkook having to suffer through a solid five minutes of Taehyung cooing at the way Jungkook's old crush on Kim Namjoon used to be so visible and practically the whole school could definitely tell.
The suffering is worth it in the end, when Jungkook blushes and shoves Taehyung lightly into Jimin, who ends up revealing the details of a crush Taehyung had on one of the professors a few years back. Revenge feels sweet as the two of them team up to tease Taehyung about it.
They eat their food and when they're full and ready to get on with their day, everyone around them has forgotten about them already. With all the professors having left the hall already, they steal an innocent kiss in front of the fireplace, Taehyung's hands framing Jungkook's cheeks and Jungkook's hands wrapped loosely around Taehyung's neck.
Later, when the food is all cleared up and the two of them are sitting in the same spot with their homework laid out in front of them, Jungkook spends a whole lot more time holding Taehyung's hand under the table than picking up his quill to write, and wondering how he got so lucky.
