Work Text:
needless to say, sunny was pissed.
“what did i say about charging in without a plan!?”
“there was a plan, i was in the process of making one!”
“that’s not how planning works! you could’ve gotten seriously hurt, you know. you’re usually not this impulsive.”
mika pouted at that— oshi-san and nii-chan were in danger, how else was he supposed to feel!? though it’s not like he could say that to sunny’s face; after all, they’ve sworn to keep their identities a secret from one another. mika's actions were completely within the realm of reason!
still, sunny had a point, so mika had no choice but to withstand his hour-long sermon.
the two vigilantes were currently stuck in a cruddy back-alley on the shady part of town, patching up each other’s wounds (well, sunny was patching up mika’s) and throwing petty insults back and forth; despite the increasing tension from their vigorous bickering, the stones compressed onto mika's arms remained firm, soothing his pain and cauterizing his wounds, and the silence that followed their quarrel was comforting.
well, they were partners after all.
soon after, sunny removed the stones, placing them back in a pouch, before cupping the other's chin to tilt his head upwards— the intimacy of it all made mika's face heat up, holding back the urge to jerk away as soon as his partner turned his attention elsewhere. with his free hand, the red-haired hero grabs a pouch of wooden ash, opening it up before dipping his fingers in.
"hey, close your eyes for me, will you? keep still or you'll get hurt in weird places."
although taken aback by sunny's request, mika does just as his partner says, hoping the heat in his cheeks don't show too brightly— once his eyes closed shut, the other boy began gently applying wooden ash to mika's cheeks, inspecting his face for any other cuts & bruises he may have missed before. thankfully, the wounds weren't that deep; in fact, they might even heal completely by the next month, but it never hurts to be a bit more careful.
now that mao thought about it, two of his seniors were involved in the scuffle earlier that day, and wraith seemed to be particularly antsy around them after resolving the situation. not to mention, he seemed to be around his age. could it be that...?
no, that's impossible. it was way too convenient, and even if he was his schoolmate, he doubts it'd be someone he knew personally.
what a troublesome guy...
mao thought to himself, a fond smile gracing his face.
"hey, can i open my eyes no— nyah!? what the heck, this tastes weird."
"stupid, i told you to keep still. tree ash isn't for eating, you know."
