Work Text:
“It's so late in the night My mind is drifting away
T hen I dream about times
I wished for a new happier day
I f a hand could reach out right now
And save my life somehow
I 'll face the sun again
As soon as this dreary night ends.”
As he turned off the stream he sighed. That was intense, who knew a sponsored stream could be so stressful. It’s not like he hated the experience, he just didn’t realise how many people would turn up to watch him play a game that wasn’t among us. Don’t get him wrong he was truthfully grateful for all his fan for turning up but there is a hidden pressure behind streaming, that if he was completely honest, he could live without.
Determined to calm his nerves, Corpse picked up his phone. Maybe scrolling through the bird app would soothe his anxiousness. Seeing all the love from fan all over the world definitely helped. Looking though all the different tweets of support and clips of him and Tina playing Resident Evil quietened his running mind, but it didn’t stop the anxiety in the back of his brain. After 20 minutes of mindless scrolling, unhappy with the current silence, he put his phone down and pick up his headphones. He opened Spotify and hit shuffle on his playlist. Closing his eyes, he immersed himself in the lo-fi beats. Leaning back in his chair Corpse hummed to himself as the songs washed over everything, eliminating his anxious thoughts. Dreamy night. As he listened, the words resonated with his current mood. The song ended.
Sykkuno has just woken up from a nap that might have lasted 2 hours too long. As he waked around groggily, he passed the open door to Corpse’s room. There he sat with his back to the door, eyes closed, listening to music. Sykkuno smiled to himself and walked towards the kitchen to grab a glass of water and maybe snacks. He did over-sleep by 2 hours. With water and snacks in hand he made his way back to his room. Sykkuno place the snacks and the water on his desk after entering his room. Corpse has just finished a stream, right? Sykkuno through to himself, maybe I should bring his something as well. He went back to the kitchen to grab Corpse a glass of water. As he walked past Corpse’s room he heard something.
A low, raspy rumble was emanating from Corpse’s room. Corpse looked at Spotify and clicked repeat one so the song would play on a loop. His humming slowly turned to lyrics. “I’ll face the sun again as soon as this dreary night ends.”
Sykkuno stood in the doorway of the room listening to Corpse’s coarse voice sing the sweet melody. It fitted his voice so well. Sykkuno smiled to himself and leaned against the door frame soaking in the beautiful song coming from the boy. Forgetting himself and his intended actions; the song repeated like a lullaby. He was so lost in the beautiful voice, he never wanted it to stop. Then it did. Sykkuno just froze, then smiled.
As Corpse got to the end of the song for the 6th time, he slowly opened his eyes and turned around. Jumping slightly as he noticed a body in is doorway. Corpse smiled. He stood up, slowing removing his headphones and placing them on the desk. Walking over to Sykkuno, he brought him into a tight up and whispered, “If a hand could reach out right now and save my life somehow, I'll face the sun again as soon as this dreamy night ends.”
