Stubborn

Summary:

Obito has a special way to cope whenever Kakashi gives him the cold shoulder after an argument.

Notes:

Just a quick drabble based off a convo my friend and I had xD

Work Text:

Obito sits on the small couch in the living room next to Kakashi, his gaze discreetly following the soft strands of hair that refuse to stay off of Kakashi's face no matter how many times the younger tries to blow it away. Obito smiles bitterly to himself, wanting to tuck that stubborn piece of hair behind his ear before pulling him into a sweet kiss. But he knows he can't do that, not right now at least. He clenches his fist in annoyance, absolutely hating this. The only thing worse than having an actual fight with Kakashi is having to deal with the painful silence right after.

Obito knows he can end the silence right then, all he has to do is apologize and Kakashi will stop giving him the cold shoulder, but there’s no way he is going to apologize first.

'I know the joke was kind of mean, but he's just plain overreacting!'

Obito can’t fathom why he’s like this with Kakashi, or why Kakashi is like this with him. Whenever he gets into a fight with anyone else, he usually will apologize less than an hour after the fight happened, and he knows Kakashi does the same when he gets into the occasional arguments with others. But for some reason, whenever they have an argument with each other, both are too proud to apologize immediately. He doesn’t know why he suddenly becomes so stubborn when it comes to matters involving Kakashi, but as he watches Kakashi from the corner of his eye, Kakashi's eyes drooping sleepily as he tries to keep reading the book in his hand, he has to resist pulling Kakashi into a hug and silently wishes he wasn't.

They continue to sit there in silence, still refusing to acknowledge the other's presence. Obito stares blankly at the wall in front of him, wondering why in the world Kakashi likes reading Jiraiya's books so much, when he suddenly feels a weight on his shoulder. He tenses as he feels soft hair brush lightly against his cheek, and dares to look to his side. He’s greeted with the sight of the all too familiar silver hair and feels his heart race. He shifts a bit to look at Kakashi's face, and sees the other is fast asleep, his book lying on his lap. Obito feels a bit disappointed, thinking that maybe Kakashi was going to apologize first so that he could finally go back to cuddling him, but he decides that this is better than nothing. Obito looks down and sees Kakashi's hand resting between them, and bites the inside of his cheek, slight shame and embarrassment filling his chest at what he’s about to do.

Obito knows he should just apologize after every time they fought, that he should just swallow his pride, but he’s always nervous and afraid, so he opts for his less-than-normal way to cope with the silent treatment. Obito gently reaches down and threads his fingers with Kakashi's, smiling at the feeling of the other's warm, smooth skin against his. He rests his head on top of Kakashi's, nuzzling into the silver locks, before bringing up Kakashi's hand and pressing a soft kiss to his knuckle. He lets his lips linger on the back of Kakashi's hand, loving the feeling of Kakashi's skin against his lips, before moving to kiss each of Kakashi's fingers one-by-one. He loves how delicate they are and takes the time to admire them before rubbing his cheek against Kakashi's hand in an almost cat-like manner.

Yes, Obito knows he’s a coward for coping by cuddling and caressing Kakashi while the other is asleep, he knows the habit is borderline creepy, and he also knows he should try to break away from his little habit, but none of those thoughts stops him from scooting closer to the younger, his thigh touching Kakashi's, and turns Kakashi's hand around before kissing and nuzzling his palm.

"I love you..." Obito mutters against Kakashi's palm, smiling when he feels the other's fingers move a little. He isn't really worried about Kakashi waking up from all the touches. After over a year of doing this, Kakashi's never woken up. He pushes Kakashi's head slightly so that it’s resting on the back of the couch, revealing his pale neck. Obito instantly nuzzles against the soft skin, pressing gentle kisses against it before just letting his lips linger, inhaling Kakashi's scent. Obito feels his heart flutter and sighs contently, holding Kakashi's hand between his and stroking it with his thumb.

"I'm sorry..." Obito looks up at Kakashi's face before pressing a gentle kiss against Kakashi's pink lips. He stays there for a few seconds, just enjoying the taste of Kakashi before moving back and rising to his feet, taking the younger into his arms, and walking to their shared bedroom and gently placing him on his bed. He doesn’t want Kakashi to catch him huddled against him when he wakes up, he would die from embarrassment. He walks over to the single sofa in the room and plops down on it, blowing Kakashi an air kiss (that he’ll definitely deny ever doing later on) and falling asleep.

'Sweet dreams...'

"...he forgot we were in the room again, didn't he, sensei."

"Seems like it." Minato buries his face in his palms as awkwardness fills the room. It's not that Minato is against Obito and Kakashi's relationship, he’s actually fully supportive of it and is happy for them. It's just that he isn't exactly comfortable watching his student molest his other student. He likes thinking of them as innocent little lovebirds (Pfft, who is he kidding). "I will never understand why he doesn't just apologize like a normal person..."

Rin chuckles. "I think it's kind of sweet. A bit on the creepy side, but sweet."

Minato raises an eyebrow at the girl, but he has to admit he’s a bit amused.

"...I wonder how long it'll take for Obito to figure out Kakashi's not really sleeping when he does that..."

Minato lets out a small laugh. “Let’s go home. We can discuss the mission tomorrow.”
