Open Letter To My Parents

Summary:

What happens when Pidge puts pen to paper after leaving to rescue Matt.

Notes:

I'm so sorry for being gone for so long. Hopefully this makes up for it slightly. I hope you all are doing well and still open to my writing even if it's not as good as it used to be.

Work Text:

The lights flickered in the room around her, the twinkling of the fairy lights casting a shadow over her journal. Lines danced over the screen of her computer that had been abandoned for now, preferring to leave her parents an actual note rather than having them struggle and potentially not see her message for them.

Her eyes looked down to the page, the glasses that weren't hers sliding down her face, tears making them slippery on her skin, but she would push them back up as her hand finally touched down on the paper.

"Mom and Dad...

I'm sorry mom and dad
I know I messed up bad...."

Her hand shook as she struggled with her thoughts about how she should've.... she should.... she shouldn't have let him go that soon. She should have done better. She had so much time to get her life together and be so much more than what she had become. But she didn't.

She lifted her chin to look at the picture of a small infant in her parent's arms. Their hands cradling her small form as her brother looked at her with awe. Beside this picture was another with her standing with the assistance of her brother's hands, a laugh on his face as both their hair stuck out crazily as they were in their matching Christmas onesies. They had left the world at her feet, let her have anything she wanted even before she was able to walk.

"I had
Hopes and dreams of bigger things
A bright future so it seemed
Oh, but that light grew a little less bright
As I grew and we began to fight"

She had just turned sixteen and her brother was no longer around to see her, leaving her with his glasses and a gaze up to the stars that went unheard. She frowned as she looked to the page before her, knowing what would happen in the wee hours of the morning, the scissors on the side of the table would be put to use. She didn't hate them now... but when they hadn't jumped at the opportunity to find Matt... she couldn't believe they would do such a thing.

"I am going after Matt.
Sincerely your daughter"

She lifted her hand up from the page as she gathered her bag and the uniform she had taken from Matt's room. She would meet Hunk on the roof tonight... and together, they would find out what happened to Matt and where he went. She didn't care if she had to steal a ship, but she couldn't stand around while she had heard those messages over the satellite. She just didn't know if she would ever return...
