Just in Thyme

Summary:

Mingi is a pouty baby and Jongho has to resist the urge to kiss him in front of the plants.

Notes:

I literally just wanted to write a Mingi and Jongho garden scene because I love this AU/series I made and soft fairy boys are where it’s at my guys.

The main story hasn’t been written but that’s besides the point, take my fluff nonsense.

*note that San isn’t introduced in this yet so don’t freak out when I say 7 instead of 8

(See the end of the work for more notes.)

Work Text:

Mingi was cute. His pink pants flowing in the soft summer breeze, white sweater drowning him in its soft fuzz making him look small and precious. His white wings fluttering in short, rapid beats.

And he was pouting. His bottom lip stuck out in concentrated frustration as he stared at the line of herbs in the villages communal garden. Jongho had to hold back the urge to kiss it away, instead smiling as he entered the gated area.

Seonghwa had added this particular line to their garden a week prior and it spurred the moon fairy to start looking up new potions and recipes to put said herbs into.

“Hello love, what’s troubling you?” Jongho asked as he reached the older. Mingi turned his pout towards the smaller, audibly huffing.

“I can’t find the Thyme! I swore hwa added it but I’ve been searching for half an hour and found nothing. Is it because they don’t know me? Normally I’m greeted by everyone as I pass and the ones I’m looking for reach out for me.” The moon fairy whined, a wiggle of helplessness leaving his body.

It was true, the plants did in fact greet the moon fairy. Another notch in his belt of special fairy things only moon and earth fairies had. Mingi took it in stride though, actively speaking to the plants whenever he had free time that wasn’t taken up by the others or his potion making.

Jongho hummed, thumb reaching up and rubbing over Mingi’s lip to soothe the pout away. The taller blushed a light pink but leaned into the touch nonetheless. “It’s probably just shy princess, remember how long it took the raspberry bush to reach out to you? I’m sure it’s tucked somewhere in this massive garden. Seonghwa really loves you, you know that?”

Mingi flushed a deeper pink, scrunching his nose to suppress a smile. That was also true, because Seonghwa’s love language outside of physical touch was spending a shit load of money on his boyfriends and the other creatures that resided in the witches’ sanctuary.

“Yeah, but I really need some of its leaves for the new non-alcoholic cocktail recipe I found. I wanted to make it for the picnic tomorrow.” Jongho’s heart squeezed at Mingi’s devastated tone.

They had a monthly picnic where all seven of them would meet up; Yeosang and Seonghwa taking a break from running the sanctuary, Yunho venturing out of the river, Wooyoung and Hongjoong meeting up in the center of their village to help prepare said picnic with Jongi and Mingi before the others arrived.

The food and drinks were normally made by Mingi and Wooyoung, the harpie taking up cooking after meeting the fairy once Yeosang rescued him.

So seeing Mingi so distraught at not being able to do the things he normally could because of shyness made the youngers chest ache. “I’m sorry precious, how about we look together one last time? Maybe call out to it and see if that spurs a reaction.”

The taller seemed to accept Jongho’s idea, shoulders squaring ever so slightly as the moon fairy hesitantly stepped back into the newest row. “Hello, my name is Mingi and I’m looking for the Thyme plant Seonghwa planted a couple days ago. I only need a small branch or two! I promise to keep your soil well moisturized! And Jongho can do it if I’m busy, right Jongie?”

Jongho nodded, earning a beaming smile that warmed his skin to the bone. After a few beats of silence, nothing happened and Mingi began to cave in on himself again.

That was until movement came from a few of the herbs. They parted ways to show a small patch of thyme hidden beneath their branches. The plant hesitantly extended its longest piece -an offering, Jongho realized- out to Mingi who had crouched down the second the plants had started moving.

The fairy was whispering quiet reassurances and praise as he carefully snipped the needed pieces of thyme. After re-patting the soil and watering the herb, Mingi stood up with an accomplished grin.

Jongho couldn’t take it anymore, plant feelings be damned, he was going to kiss his bondmate. And he did, crossing the space between them and pulling the tallers unbelievably soft sweater down to crash their lips together.

Crash wasn’t a fitting term, more like ever-so-slightly roughly pushed their lips together. It was nice nonetheless, Mingi melting into the kiss with a satisfied hum making Jongho grin.

Jongho pulled back only to litter small pecks all over the tallers face, earning a thrilled giggle that seeped into his soul and drained out all the tenseness he had been holding from earlier that morning.

“Happy now, beautiful?” Jongho asked, letting go of Mingi’s sweater and smoothing out the creases he had made moments prior. The latter hummed, pressing a kiss to Jongho’s forehead before tugging the fire fairy out of the garden and into their cottage to help him set up the drinks for tomorrow’s picnic.

Notes:

Was this just an excuse to write about wiggly herbs? Yes

Was this not useful to the plot and not really needed for the background story? Also yes.

Yet I wrote it anyway and the only regret I have is that it’s so short.

Anyway more to come from this series! Expect a lot of random drabbles well before I get to the main story where San is introduced -Aka where I created this whole AU from
