“Hinata no-” Kageyama attempted to speak, but he got cut off once again.

“What? Regret what?”

Chapter 1: Reunion

Notes:

I'm sorry, I was in a bad mood and this was the result. I felt better after taking a nap though.

Chapter Text

I can’t believe I’m actually here! Hinata thought as he walked to Suga’s home. His high school friend had planned a reunion party for the members of the Karasuno team. All of them were going to be there. Daichi, Suga, Asahi, Nishinoya, Tanaka, Kiyoko, Kinoshita, Narita, Ennoshita, Tsukishima, Yamaguchi, Yachi, and Kageyama. Kageyama… Hinata wasn’t sure if he wanted to see him yet.

***

“I’ll wait as long as it takes for you to come back to me,” Kageyama said on their last day together. “We’ll keep in contact, right?” He was nervous as he held Hinata’s hands.

“Of course silly!” Hinata happily said. He looked down at his and Kageyama’s hands. The rings on them were a symbol of their promise to be together forever. “It won’t be long, I promise. I’ll come back and we’ll be together again!”

Both of them smiled at each other and looked into the distance as the sun set.

***

What a liar. Hinata said to himself. Kageyama had not once answered his calls or messages. Not once in the two years he spent in Brazil. Even worse, Kageyama had gone to Rio for the Olympics and didn’t tell him. He had felt abandoned, he still felt abandoned.

“Hinata? What’s up,” Yamaguchi said, worried.

Hinata could be heard sniffling through the phone, “Why didn’t he tell me?”

Yamaguchi, who was in the same room as Yachi and Tsukishima, immediately understood what was going on, “He didn’t tell you? Don’t tell me he hasn’t been contacting you at all.”

“He hasn’t,” Hinata cried, “Not one damn text! Not even answering my voicemails or calls. Why? I don’t know why.”

“Tadashi, pass me the phone,” Tsukishima said.

Yamaguchi knew that Tsukishima would help, “Hey Hinata, look I’m gonna pass the phone to Tsukki. Okay?” Hinata nodded even though he knew that his friends couldn’t see him.

“Hinata?” Tsukishima asked through the phone.

“Yeah?”

Tsukishima sighed, “Whatever it is, you can tell me. I won’t tell anyone you know. If anything, I sort of understand how you’re feeling.” Tsukishima remembered the pain from his brother lying to him when he was younger.

“The day before I left, he said that he would wait for me to return. That we’d keep in contact. That we would be together, but it’s been months. MONTHS! He has never answered my texts, nor my calls. And now, he came to the Olympics, here in Rio, and didn’t even tell me that he was coming. I found out through the news. Then, I saw him on the streets. I was going to call out to him, but,” Hinata paused. Tsukishima became worried, “But, but a woman, a beautiful woman, came up and put her arm around him-” He went silent.

Tsukishima sighed, “Sho? Are you alright?”

“No, he smiled. He smiled when she hugged him. I can’t get that out of my head. It’s only been a few months, has he already moved on?” Hinata broke into sobs. He was shaking and crying.

“Tsukishima, is everything okay?” Yachi’s voice asked in the background.

Tsukishima shook his head. “No,” he mouthed. “Sho, are you sure it was him?”

“Yes, it was him! I’d recognize his beautiful dark hair anywhere!” Some rustling of clothes could be heard coming from Hinata’s end of the line. “Just a minute guys, my roommate is coming.”

Yamaguchi, Tsukishima, and Yachi waited patiently for Hinata to return. They could hear two people talking in a different language. “I think that’s Hinata talking in Portuguese with his roommate,” Yamaguchi said.

“Hey, I’m back. It was just Pedro, he was worried when he heard me crying.”

“Look Sho,” Tsukishima put the phone up to his ear again, “I’m not sure what’s going on with him either. He stopped talking to us like three months ago. He hasn’t answered our texts or calls either. If I could, I would try to contact him, but I don’t know how. Just know that we’re always here for you to talk to. If I ever see him I promise I’ll give him a slap for you.”

Hinata could be heard softly giggling in between the sniffles from crying, “Thanks guys, you’re all the best. I’m going to sleep now.”

“Bye Hinata!” Yamaguchi and Yachi said at the same time.

“Bye little guy,” Tsukishima sighed.

“Bye.”

***

Hinata was about to open the door when he heard a loud commotion inside.

“Do you realize how much he was hurting because of you!” It was Tsukishima. Hinata opened the door hastily and saw the scene that had unfolded. Daichi and Yamaguchi were busy holding back Tsukishima while Tanaka and Asahi did the same for Kageyama.

“Hinata!” exclaimed Yachi. All eyes turned to the ginger who stood at the door.

“Sho,” Tsukishima gasped. “Aw man, I’m sorry that you had to walk into this.”

Kageyama was furious as he looked between Hinata and Tsukishima, “What’s up with you calling him ‘Sho’?!” He managed to break free of Tanaka and Asahi’s grasp and grabbed Tsukishima by the front of his shirt. “Why are you calling him that?”

“Tsukki!” Hinata wedged himself between the two of them.

“Hinata?” Kageyama stared blankly at him.

“You and I are gonna talk outside,” Hinata stared back at him.

Tsukishima put his hand on Hinata’s shoulders, “Are you sure about this?” Hinata nodded in response. “Well then, if he tries anything, call for us.” He took his hand off Hinata and scowled at Kageyama before returning to the rest of the group.

“Now,” Hinata said. He gripped Kageyama’s wrist and pulled him outside to Suga’s backyard. “What was that all about? Eh?”

Kageyama looked surprised at the amount of anger in Hinata’s voice, “He slapped me first!” He was cut off by a burning feeling on his face. “THE HECK?” Hinata had slapped him too. “Hinata?”

“You’re nothing more than a fucking LIAR!” Hinata screamed in rage, “You said you would wait for me! You said we’d keep in contact! You deserve both those slaps! Not once did you answer my calls or texts! Not even when you went to Rio! You know what I saw in Rio? I saw you with a woman! Smiling too.” Hinata was getting quieter with each sentence, “A few months was all it took for you to get over me?”

“Hinata no-” Kageyama attempted to speak, but he got cut off once again.

“I’m starting to regret it all.”

“What? Regret what?”

“Everything! From falling in love with you to confessing. Every single moment we shared together! I regret it all! Even this!” Hinata said, putting his left hand in front of Kageyama’s face. There was the promise ring that he had given to Hinata two years before. Hinata swiftly removed it from his ring finger and placed it into Kageyama’s hands. “So take your ring and your lies and get away from me.”

“No,” Kageyama shook his head in disbelief, “Hinata, please let me explain!”

“What? So you can lie to me again?” Hinata sniffled, he hadn’t even realized that he had begun to cry. “I don’t want to talk anymore.” He walked away, cleaning his face of any tears before re-entering Suga’s house.

Kageyama stood there alone until Suga came out, “Kageyama, I think it might be best if you leave for today. I’m sorry, but Hinata needs time to talk to us.”

I need to talk to Hinata!” Kageyama exclaimed in frustration, putting emphasis on the ‘I’.

Suga shook his head, “No, he needs time to cool down before talking to you. In fact he said that won’t talk to us with you around. I’m sorry Kageyama, but I think that you’re at fault here. If you had told one of us to tell Hinata what had happened from the beginning this wouldn’t have happened.”

“I’m sorry,” Kageyama cried.

“I know you are, but don’t apologize to me, just take some time to yourself and then try to talk to him when he’s taken time to cool down. Got it?” Suga asked with a worried look on his face.

Kageyama nodded, “I’ll be going then.” He bowed in apology to his friend and left through the gate that connected the front and back yards.

Suga let out a deep breath, relaxing his shoulders.

“Koushi? You okay?” Daichi’s voice asked.

“Yeah, I’m fine,” Suga answered. “I don’t know about Kageyama and Hinata though.”

“They’ll be fine. It always works out in the end, right?” Daichi said hesitantly.

Notes:

Might give them a happy ending. I'm not sure yet.
