Chimney groaned at the moment of paperwork that was in front of him, he had avoided the process as long as he could since he hated having to update the forms. Normally, he just kept the same information as the previous year with just a quick date and signature, but with Jee being born, he had to complete additional documents pertaining to his daughter. Mainly, custody decisions if something happened to him while he was on duty, “Cap do I really need to fill this out?”
“Yes,” Bobby replied with a laugh as he filled out his own forms next to him at the table.
“But, Jee would stay with Maddie,” he countered as he gazed around at the gathered members of the 118 who were all completing their yearly form updates as well.
“It’s still required,” Hen interjected, “I have to do the same thing for Denny, it’s for the off-chance that something happens to me and they can’t reach Karen.”
“Great,” Chimney sighed as Eddie and Buck laughed at the paramedic’s reaction, “Come on you guys, who takes care of your kids if something happens while your own shift?” he questioned the three other parents at the table.
“Karen or my mother,” Hen shrugged in reply.
“Athena or Michael,” come Bobby’s immediate response.
Chimney frowned when Eddie didn’t offer up a name, “Eddie, let me guess, your grandmother or your aunt?”
“Neither,” Eddie kept his head lowered as he continued filling out the documents in front of him.
“Carla?” Hen was surprised at that, but it did make since, due to the fact that Christopher would have been in her care anyway.
“No,” Eddie replied with a slight laugh at them for being completely oblivious to what was right in front of them.
“Your parents?” Bobby guessed, far more interested in Eddie’s situation then his own documents.
“NO!” came the passioned reply from both Eddie and Buck at the mention of the former’s parents.
“Why would you think that?” Buck complained.
“Then who?” Hen demanded.
“Buck,” Eddie shrugged lightly as he signed off the last form with a flourish and handed the completed form over to Bobby, “here you go Cap,” he stated as he and Buck headed down toward the truck in order to get started on inventory.
“Buck?” Chimney frowned at that piece of information, “did you know, Cap?” he questioned Bobby and was stunned to see only a mildly surprised look on the captain’s face, “Cap?”
“Well, it makes since,” Bobby shrugged as he finished off the last of his updated forms, “after all Buck was the one who took care of Christopher when Eddie was in the coma.”
“That’s right,” Chimney frowned, “do you think that he’d take on Jee?”
“You have to ask him,” Hen countered swiftly, “you need his permission before putting his name down on guardianship paperwork.”
“Right,” Chim nodded as he glanced over at Bobby who was frowning while revealing Eddie’s forms, “something wrong Cap?”
“Buck filled out guardianship paperwork in case something happens to him if he has custody of Christopher,” Bobby stated as he glanced toward where the youngest member of the 118 had disappeared too, “he’s taking this seriously, it’s not a game to him,” Bobby returned his attention toward the two paramedics, “Bucks’ growing up.”
“That’s great for him,” Chimney agreed, “but do you think that he’d agree to take on Jee in addition to being responsible for Chris?”
