Chapter Text
The Havoc Marauder was still, well as still as it could be. Tech was hold up in the cockpit with Hunter sitting next to him, Wrecker was attempting to fix a part of the ship that he’d accidentally dented, and Echo was attempting to get some sleep.
The hum of the ship surrounded the currently anxious member of the Bad Batch. Well at least he thought it was anxiousness, it wasn’t really a feeling he had to deal with often due to his enhancements and feeling it over this of all things only confused him more.
He wasn’t in the middle of a fight, he wasn’t shooting at a target, he wasn’t even trying to protect his brothers. He was just sneaking off to the fresher.
He didn’t even really need to sneak off, not like any of them would care if he went to the fresher, but he still felt like he had to slink around the Marauder so as to not be noticed.
He dashed at the last stretch to the fresher holding his breath as he felt the door close behind him.
He turned the lights on looking himself over in the mirror, he looked as tired and out of it as he usually did. He white hair was rather messy and he took note that he should probably cut it sometime soon.
After that stint of looking himself over he returned to focusing on the task at hand, music.
Maybe it wasn’t the best time to be doing this when everyone was asleep but he’d been waiting all day to have a chance at this and he couldn’t wait any longer.
He felt off all day, waiting for this chance to come and now he needed to get all of it out before he’d try and head off to bed.
He put in the little machines in his ears that would allow him to listen without much fear of his vods hearing, and he pressed play.
His ears were filled with old songs of times long ago, they made little sense to someone such as himself but that didn’t stop them from bringing him joy.
He let out a sigh of relief as he felt his body loosen up, almost like the sound had hit a switch in his mind to relax.
He began to pace back and forth in the bathroom as he listened, muttering the words of each song as he did so.
Starting with “Shut Up and Dance With Me” he went through almost the entire playlist without breaking out into full song, then his favorite song came on “Still Into You”.
It was one of the songs that made the least amount of sense to him as someone who had never been in a romantic relationship but he couldn’t help but love it.
Something about it though just spoke to him on a spiritual level. It made him almost giddy to the point of making it difficult to hide from his vods.
He knew they’d never let him live it down if they found out that judgmental Crosshair genuinely enjoyed old cheesy pop songs.
But as the song built up to his crescendo he couldn’t stop himself as he, in a very poor voice, sang out “I should be over all the butterflllliiiiiieeeeessss; but I’m into you, I’m into you!”
And as the song fell back from that note he heard behind him a very clear voice with a wavering laugh in it. “Vod?”
He froze slowly turning to see which one had caught him, and it was Tech.
Of course it had to be Tech.
Somehow he wished that it had been Wrecker or Hunter. They’d out right joke about it. Wrecker would let the entire ship know the moment he saw it while Hunter would slowly bring it up with everyone when he thought it was the right moment. And well Echo, he still wasn't sure what Echo would have done but he was certain he'd probably end up openly making fun of him as well. Tech though, Tech wouldn’t do any of that.
He knew Tech would be quiet about it. He’d hold it over Crosshair for the rest of his days. If he’d want to win an argument all he had to do was hint to him that he might let slip what he saw and Crosshair would have no choice but to shut up.
“Were you just singing along to one of those old pop songs I found?” Tech asked bringing Crosshair back from his spiraling thoughts.
He paused, considering his options for a moment and deciding to stick with his guns for the moment; “No, you must have misheard me…”
Tech raised an eyebrow showing Crosshair he didn’t at all believe him, “Sure, I’d like to use the fresher now though.”
Crosshair nodded, quickly slipping past Tech and heading to his bunk.
His hands were shaking he concluded that he’d never live this down and that he was now more anxious than if he’d never done any of that.
