Notes:

Guizhong's part is really short, sorry about that. Oof

Most of her description here is how I perceive her (No I'm definitely using Life, character by Jenny Jinya, as her reference.. Nope!!)

Disclaimer: I haven't played GI (YET!!) but damn it, Zhongli's JP voice is hot + angsty Backstory.... Hnnggggg!! I love!!
Anyway, please enjoy and no, don't cry *plays A3 Tasu/Tsumu's song "Don't Cry"*

(See the end of the chapter for more notes.)

Chapter Text

"Morax, one day, you'll find someone you will treasure," Guizhong said, sleeves billowing as the wind blew harshly. She tucked a stray strand of her dark hair behind her ear, watching with glee as Morax grumbled, struggling to open one of her puzzles. They're on the field of glaze lilies, enjoying the peace brought by the night. In full bloom, they substitute as the light to the darkness offered by the lack of stars.

"I already have you and the people though?" He successfully unlocked one layer, only to encounter three more of those. He clicked his tongue and worked with his fingers faster.

"That's not what I mean, silly!" She moved to place her head in between Morax' face and the puzzle he was solving. The image of the lilies reflected on her ocean eyes, its glimmer seemed to be a perfect copy of the galaxy in her eyes. "For now, you may live for the people, but tomorrow, you will definitely find someone you'd love in a carnal manner! Like they would make your stomach feel like there are thousands of butterflies inside–"

"Someone who'll poison me?" Morax finished her statement, shuddering at the thought.

"No!" The Goddess shook her head, distressed. "Someone you'd love to be with, their smile making you smile too, and oh definitely the one who you'd talk to for hours and hours without getting bored!"

"And isn't it already you?"

"Nooooo, someone who isn't me! For someone who has a sharp mind you always forget things." She moved away from Morax and the puzzle. Guizhong leaned on his back instead, letting him feel the divinity flowing through her veins.

Heart of stone, steel mind, he didn't mind what his closest friend said. Love is just something for beings like Guizhong who have a genuine heart to feel. Even if explained thoroughly, aided by his great memory, it is a feeling he will never experience. All he has is the urge to protect those eyes that house the constellation in its glassy surface and this unsettling heaviness in his chest at the Goddess's claim.

He wanted to speak up, ask her about the heaviness and yet, his voice wouldn't come out. He just sat there, silently, fingers fiddling on the puzzle in exchange of speaking out and enjoying how her back rested warmly against his.

If it's love or something, he will never know as the stars from Guizhong's eyes vanished and her divinity slipped off her being as her blood, previously gold, turned red while it seeped out of her chest. The last of her body cracked and turned into dust, not leaving even a single speck as it flew over the field of glaze lilies she loved. Morax stood there, anguished, holding on to that memory of that time she told him about love.

If it wasn't what the Goddess was talking about, then for what reason was the warm tears falling from his golden eyes?

Notes:

No you don't know me but for those who do, no you don't.
